A fabulously comfortable, clean and stylish place in the heart of Barnard Castle. Couldn't fault the welcome or the facilities.

Breakfast was superb, freshly cooked, delicious, generous portions, and the fruit salad was lovely too. The property is in a great location, and beautifully styled. Immaculately decorated and spotlessly clean. Lots of lovely touches, and the owner Carole was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely return.

Excellent breakfast both in choice and quality. Very welcoming hosts. An added bonus was free parking just outside the property. Spacious room with very comfortable bed. Would not hesitate to book again.

Just one minor quibble. A few biscuits in the room to go with tea/coffee would have been nice.

Excellent location, felt like being in a friend's home rather than a B&B. The room and bathroom were very clean and welcoming to a weary traveller. Breakfast was great, Carole will cook your breakfast if you wish or you can have it as simple as you like. The room was warm and the bed was very comfortable, I slept very well there. There is plenty of parking available very close to the house.

There was a mix up with the check in time, which I felt the host handled very well. However the mix up is the reason for giving a 9 rather than a 10.

Carole is a very gracious host. The room was very comfortable and spacious with lounging chairs, kettle for coffee or tea with milk. A wonderful breakfast! Anyone staying here will not be disappointed. A heritage home only steps away to Bowes Museum and the Downtown. A great 2 night stay. Almost across the street is Capri Restaurant that was very good Italian and also has Standard items on the menu 👌 😀

Carole is a fantastic host who was very welcoming and made our stay enjoyable. The rooms are spotlessly clean with lovely nice touches providing everything you could ever need. We had a great cooked breakfast on both mornings and nothing was ever too much trouble. The house is in a great location for the shops and within walking distance of the Bowes Museum. We will definitely return.

I had a fantastic couple of nights at Newgate House! Carole and her husband were very friendly and hospitable, and their B&B was immaculately presented throughout. I had the best breakfasts I’ve had in my life there. Will definitely be returning in the future.

Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts. The breakfast was lovely with a varied choice and very well presented from full english to something lighter. The property is conveniently situated a short walk from the town centre. A good variety of shops and plenty of local walks available.

Everything was fine, nothing to dislike.
