Roomy, clean characterful and well located

I was there to go to the Altamira Cave/museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. What I didn't expect was the wonderful mediaeval town. It was a 2 minute walk filled with antiquity and places to eat. The staff person who check me in was wonderful and made me feel right at home. The parking around the side was easy to access with a free garage close by if the on site parking was full. The room was large and clean.

The walls were thin so I could hear noise from the family upstairs.

overall aspect, warm and cosy. excellent location (few minutes walking to the centre). perfect cleanness. very good wifi. easy parking possibilities.

the "double room" we reserved had a third bed (unpleasant, unapprciated and making the room small and unconfortable). no seating space in the room: just two chairs. air conditioning working randomly. no international tv channel. basic breakfast.

Finding La Casona was very easy from Santander and with parking at the side made it even better. because Santillana is so touristy it would have been quite difficult and costly to find somewhere nearby. Our room was comfy. quiet and cosy. A breakfast of fresh OJuice, Fresh Tortilla and plenty of everything else.

The hotel is set in a beautiful building in a great location very close to the old town, and it is superbly furnished throughout. There is plenty of free parking just outside the hotel and our car was safe despite having our bikes on the back of the car. The continental breakfast was comprehensive and excellent. Despite a few teething problems (as the hotel had only opened that day) the staff were brilliant and very helpful, and after a conversation with the owner about the teething problems (see below) he agreed to reduce our bill and was very apologetic. These problems have resulted in this less than perfect review, but following our conversation I'm sure that they will be sorted out, and I would then quite happily stay here again, and probably award a score of 10/10.

I don't like to criticize but in order to provide a realistic review I feel that I should mention these points. This was a very cold day in January and the heating wouldn't work for 2 hours until the owner attended and solved the problem. The radiator in the bathroom only became slightly warm but created a 'gurgling' noise throughout the night which kept me awake. The bed head was loose and made an awful noise every time one of us turned over and the green emergency exit light was so bright it illuminated the whole room. I did not sleep well! However, as mentioned above, I'm sure that these relatively minor problems will now be sorted out by the owner and the hotel will justify it's four star rating.

A small boutique hotel just outside the main centre of the town. The room was warm and comfortable with a spacious bathroom. A small selection for breakfast compared with bigger hotels but was fresh local foods and perfectly adequate. Hotel staff very helpful especially when we had a problem with the car.

Very welcoming staff, wonderful breakfast serving toasted bread and fantastic local cakes that we enjoyed in their outdoor terrace, spacious bedroom with great hydromassage bath, free car parking beside the hotel and within a walking distance to amazing midieaval town. It is also not far from Altamira caves - you could even walk there!

Everything was great!

staff was very friendly. Location was excellent as it was just one block from the entrance to the city. Room was large. Breakfast was plentiful and was made to your order.

The walls between rooms are a little thin as it talking can be heard from an adjacent room.

The room was delightful with a massive, comfortable bed. The Spa bath was a lovely added luxury. The Breakfast was very good with a variety of toast and cake. The staff were very friendly. The whole experience was great value for money. I highly recommend.

Old, traditional building, nice staff.

Probably it´s because of the building, but noises from next room/corridor can be experienced. The room had only a small bathtub (with massage function) but no jacuzzi (was visible on photos in some rooms).

Charming Old World property tastefully furnished. Pleasant staff. Spotlessly clean. Centrally located. Excellent breakfast.

Limited menu, no evening meal available. We arrived to torrential rain and had to leave the hotel to eat.
