I absolutely loved the private outdoor bath inside the room. It was wonderful to soak on your terrace. Rooms were very spacious and comfortable. The dining experience was amazing. Each group of guests had a private space for dining. The food was absolutely incredible. We had eight-course dinner in a Japanese style. There was also a very convenient parking. The staff was incredible, very hospitable. The service was very personable.
I liked everything.

I loved it would be happy to stay longer on the pricey side, but it’s a very special place

Nice room, exceptional food
Location is right beside a huge car park. I'd expected it to be more secluded. However once inside it is quiet and very private.
Staff don't speak much English.

The chef and team are doing their best.
Hotel is located very close to bus terminal. However when snowing days , road is not easy to walk with a heavy luggage . In this case shuttle service to pick up is necessary.
Since this hotel is far away from the main cities. Only one bus a day can be used for guests to travel . ( From Matsumoto city , arriving time is 13:01pm . It is no way for guests to check in until 15:00pm !
We arrived at 13:10pm, they didn't give us a cup of hot tea , it is not the standard way of a Japanese guest service . We didn't see their manager during our stay. The SOP of this hotel needs to be improved !

The meals were quite a spread, in private area as we are a family of 8 so that was quite nice. The private onsen in room was cozy, with plenty of towels offered.
The variety of the meals could be improved. We only stayed 2 nights and both meals were similar, can't imagine staying longer. Was expecting private shower in the room since this is private onsen in room, perhaps this info could be clearer written in the ryokan description. There is nothing in the neighbourhood to walk or eat.
4.7
The two meals provided were both excellent. the garden, the common areas and the onsen were all well maintained and picturesque.
The service was a bit uneven. Some staffers were good, but we had a Nepalese server who did not speak English well and her explanations were confusing. She called after we returned to our room following dinner and asked us to go back to the front desk to pay on the spot. We have been to many ryokans and had never been asked to pay on the night before check out. When I asked her why, she could not answer and just put down the phone. That kind of behavior was below par for a ryokan in this price range. We felt that she needed more training before she could serve foreign guests independently.

Too far from anywhere

Good food good service
No shower in outdoor bathroom. Nothing around the area or hotel in winter
