Feeling at home away from home describes best our experience at Casa das Hortênsiaswe!! Although we stayed only for a single night It was the best hospitality we received during our stay in Portugal. This guest house was surprisingly brilliant. We booked the family rooms and It has everything needed. It was clean and cosy. the garden was a real bonus for the kids and the shared kitchen and dining area were very welcoming as well. The place is well located for quickly reaching all Sintra has to offer. But the real highlight of this place is the amazing warm and friendly service beyond any expectation by Alberto, the host. He did everything to make sure that we have absolutely everything we need to the last detail and even beyond our stay. His personal recommendations were priceless and thanks to it and for his hospitality we saved a lot of time and enjoyed our short stay to Sintra way beyond our expectations.

There are 2 good things about this place: 1 - Caricato restaurant with very delishiious food and super stuff just 200 metres away 2 - carrascalice bed&wine experience home made wine shop just 80 metres away

It is more like a hostel. It was clean inside, but outside areas not useable Slow internet around 9.6 mbts and braking. I had some issues with this place. Have no comments, just paste correspondence with the owner: Owner "Good afternoon, could you please tell me what happened in your room inside the wardrobe. Whenever there is a need to do extra cleaning, please say.I appreciate care and attention with all the equipment that we leave for your use. Thanks you, Alberto' Washing clothes in the room is absolutely prohibited. Please pay attention to the house rules, otherwise I will have to cancel your reservation. Me "Hello, yes l left a small can of orange juice in the garbage bag which was in the wardrobe together with one empty beer bottle to be precise. The orange juice splashed because of temperature. The wall of wardrobe get wet according to your pictures and video. I would wash it without any problem when I come back. I can not figure how you noticed it so fast. We were not aware about your prohibition of raising the clothes in the room when ordered your place at the booking.com, there more the dryer was in the balcony. This tipe of misunderstanding happened first time to us" I doubt about privacy at this place if the owner can come to your room ant take pictures and videos of your clothes and things at any time...

Nothing! Huge disappointed from the first second when we arrived at this property. The host was very rude. It was the last destination of our trip from France to Spain and Portugal. We drove a long day to arrive on time at around 5pm (They only have 2 hours free check-in window from 4pm-6pm, or guests would need to pay extra fee), and once we arrived in front of the house and tried to unload our luggages, to our surprise, the host shouted at us loudly from the second floor like giving an order “Don’t park in front of the door!”. We explained to him it was just for unloading the luggages but not park there, meanwhile we drove away immediately to a much further spot uphill, and we had to drag all our luggages and walk to the house. Finally the host went down to the ground floor and still kept on repeating “Do not park in front of the house” .(We would never ever willing to park there giving the minium common sense) As a couple been travelled around the world intensively for years, we’ve never ever had any host, no matter 5 stars hotels, resorts or family run properties, who treat their guests like this!

The worst was when we checked in and entered the house, there were flies and mosquitoes everywhere, and there’re even a few in our bedroom, so we asked the host if he could do something, and he just gave us a bottle of insecticide spray, which actually didn’t really work and made the whole room smelt worse. The bedroom was connected to the bathroom directly, with a very humid and bad oder already. Moreover, the bath towels were very thin and hard like saw-teeth, no kidding! We’ve stayed in hundreds hotels/properties, never ever had such hard towels. It’s awkward to provide guests this kind of towels. We also noticed in the review of this property, if any guest left a negative review, the host would aggressively respond to declare they got a high score, but sorry, the past high score doesn’t mean as a host you have the right to treat your new guests rudely and arrogantly, and the current score only means the past but not the future. It was our third time to be in Portugal and the second time to visit Sintra area. We came back to this area, cause we loved this area and wanted to go back to the same restaurant of the first time we went. Unfortunately staying at this property was such a huge disappointment. The only good thing was we just stayed one night, and we left the next early morning as soon as possible. We’ll certainly be back to this country again, but not this property for sure, and we definitely do not recommend this property too!

The staff was so friendly, entertaining our somewhat cranky child and not bothered at all by the mess she made eating breakfast. Helena even gave her a present and we got some good tips for the rest of our trip. The room was very nice, the bed super comfy and the outdoor spaces are very inviting to relax.

Clean place with private rooms and small balcony. Big common living room. Garden and sitting possibilities. Laundry service.

difficult with public transport. The available kitchen was equipped but with cooking stuff and utensil but kitchen is on other floor and with small child difficult to reach.

Location parking, facilities and staff. Appreciated the personal touch from both Alberto and Helena. Alberto took the time to familiarise us on the area such as where to drive too as well as restaurants and parking, which is always a challenge in Sintra. Ideal location as a base to travel to the coast as well as Lisbon. The guest house was immaculate and kitchen well equipped. Comfortable communal facilities, lounge, dinning room and outside terrace. Highly recommended, would definitely stay here again.

The guest house was lovely, had very romantic style. Host was welcoming and room was spacious for the whole family.

Alberto is genuinely super helpful and had everything in place to make sure we had a comfortable stay. Bedrooms were lush, very warm and had a lovely balcony where we enjoyed our breakfast overlooking a wonderful garden. The common room was really cosy and spacious. The kitchen had multiple storage for each guest including fridges and cupboards. This guesthouse ticked all the boxes to feel safe in this strange time.

Dogs barking nearby. We couldn't get the grill or the oven to work.
