Eddy is extremely friendly and helpful

The owner was very friendly and gave us a nice welcome. The house is beautiful and the swimming pool is very clean. The bed was very comfortable!! Nearby is a bar called Grelia bar - you should definitely go and check it out.

I wish we could stay longer.

The rooms were pretty grand, high ceilings, lovely bathrooms, very tastefully decorated and furnished. The AC was unbelievably efficient - coped with 38 degrees easily and cooled the room down in minutes. Great location, just a 5 minute drive from Lucca. There were a couple of restaurants within a 10 minute walk as well as a decent fruit shop - fantastic as we had no car. The pool was so relaxing… The biggest plus of Il Buen Retiro was the staff - Eddi couldn’t do enough for us, was thoroughly charming and spoke excellent English, whilst Giuliana was so friendly and caring. We will try to return to Retiro if we possibly can!

Without a car, we had to rely on the (pretty inadequate) taxi availability and made the mistake of getting on the bus (the hotel is on a main bus route) without a ticket! This resulted in a couple of pretty nasty ‘inspectors’ gouging us for €60 each on our first day - pretty suspect and a lesson to all visitors to Italy….

10/10. Eddie, the owner of the hotel, is friendly and very caring. There was a feeling that we came to visit an Italian grandfather. The garden and pool are made with love. The room is clean. Breakfast is served free of charge. We will definitely come back again. Thank you so much !

Edi and Juliette were so nice and welcoming! The place itself is beautiful and clean ,bed were comfortable and the room was very big ! Also location is wonderful, the hosts helped us with everything we need and more , nice pool area to sit and have breakfast in 10 out of 10 !

Couldn’t recommend this property enough. Exceeded my expectations! The room was really nice, lovely bathroom and very comfortable bed. The swimming pool was a lovely bonus - The dogs were so friendly and made the stay even better. The staff were beyond helpful, helped in every way they could. Even drove me to the train station in the morning! Amazing.

The owner is extremely helpful and very friendly The house is very charming, beautifully furnished! We enjoyed the modern bathroom and the comfortable bed. We had breakfast on the terrace, relaxed in the pool and had a great time!

Everything about this house is wonderful. We heard the fairly busy street in the front at night, but we just kept the window to the back of the house open, so it was no problem. (we didn't need the AC).

We had an amazing stay at Il Buen Retiro. The house, the room, and the pool exceeded all our expectations. Our deluxe room was unbelievably spacious and beautifully decorated. The beds felt great and the private bathroom was very clean. Edmondo is a wonderful host who goes above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. The other staff members Mario/Franchesca and ofcourse the dog Luccio made all the difference and turned a normal stay into a wonderful experience. We wished we could have stayed longer and are looking forward to returning to them and Lucca.

This is a really lovely place. Pool was amazing. Felt like being in my friend's house. Best possible value for money. Eddie and his dog ware super nice.

Because the house is near to a high frequency street it’s a little bit noisy even in the night.

Friendly host, clean and specious room. Eventough the place is at the main road, (for us very confinient) the room was not noisy atall! Parking behind the gate for free. Deffinatly recommend the place!
