Breakfast was really very good, everything you need to set you up for the day ahead. Choice of cereals, juice and a full cooked breakfast or just toast, whatever you want is no trouble to the these guys. We had our evening meals at the Woodvale and the food is great, a good selection to chose from on the menu and prepared to a really good standard. Our room was lovely, fantastic views out over the sea, great to wake up to. It was a quite big room so no issues with being cramped up and falling over cases etc as can be the case sometimes. The bathroom was also quite big, the shower was great, powerful jet of lovely hot water, just as I like it. Everything was spotlessly clean, and we got clean towels each morning when the lovely cleaning lady serviced the room. The bar area is busy with a mixture of tourists and locals, and there are various entertainments at times, on our first night there was a great fun quiz night, and on the 1st Wednesday of each month theres an open Mic night. The weather was very good during our stay and there is a huge outdoor area where you can sit out and enjoy the panaramic views, and I believe that when the boat racing is happening then its the perfect viewing place. No doubt we'll be back on our next visit to the IOW.
The only issue we had, and its a very minor one, is that there were a lot of steps to reach the rooms which are on the top floor of the building, it could prove to be a problem for anyone who has health issues as there is no lift. Getting our cases up and down, but I'm pretty sure that one of the staff would have assisted with this had we asked. The Woodvale is situated a little way out of Cowes and is in a great setting, but if you are not up to walking then it means either driving or getting taxis's. We like the walk, but something to bear in mind. Certainly wouldnt put us off going there again in the future.

Plenty of quality breakfast choices. Lovely views from breakfast room across the Solent. Free parking opposite hotel.
Nothing specifically.

Friendly staff and a very good breakfast.
Not enough electric sockets in room.

Location was excellent for exploring the island. Food was also very good quality.
Mum struggled with the stairs to the bedrooms.

Location exceptional
A stair lift would have made our trip easier. We are very old.

Nice size room lovely view good strong shower
The mattress was slightly uncomfortable

Lovely breakfast freshly cooked. Room was warm, clean and comfortable with complimentary toiletries. Great to be able to open the windows as well. Staff member who showed us to our room and also met us at breakfast the following morning was very friendly and welcoming as was the colleague who served our breakfast.
Nothing- everything was perfect for our overnight stay!

Evening meal excellent.
First room noise from above. Changed rooms and next room very good.

Location, cleanliness, peace and quiet, breakfast
Only a double bed despite room for king size - and we found the mattress very hard

Managed to get parked outside but don’t know how easy this would be in tourist season.
Breakfast was down one flight of narrow stairs. The member of staff was very friendly and the quality of the food excellent.
Room large and clean. Bathroom also large. Didn’t have to go through the pub to get to our room.
25 minutes walk into Cowes, but not for those with mobility issues as hilly and no pavement for a large part of the way.
Not for those with mobility issues as rooms up flights of steep stairs.
No heating in the breakfast room - the radiators were switched off. Terrible weak coffee, tasted like instant. Ordered coffee for two but the pot only had enough for just over a cup each. Same for tea the next morning.
Windows in the bedroom didn’t seal closed properly and the blinds don’t go all the way down to the sill. The weather was wild on one of the days of our stay so wind blowing freely into the room.
Poor use of space in the bathroom, need to have another towel rail.
No explanation on checkin of how to turn bathroom fan or heated radiator on, discovered the switches by chance.
Had dinner there one evening and my baked cauliflower rarebit was pathetic. Supposedly a man course but literally a few thinly sliced florets smothered in some form of cheese sauce with a small bunch of watercress on the side. I mentioned this to the waitress and they have obviously had the same complaint before as she was about to say something but stopped herself. Also my husband’s Dark and Stormy cocktail should have had a wedge of lime but had a wedge of lemon.

breakfast was great - nice bacon - view from bedroom was lovely
the breakfast was a little cold, would be better to serve on hot plates. Also no allocated parking, was lucky it was out of season as think in summer will be a pain to find a parking space.
4.3
Stunning location. Room was really clean and comfortable and all the staff were really friendly. The cooked breakfast was really hot and freshly cooked and not greasy at all.
Just a very minor thing- the breakfast was top quality but having ketchup in sachets I think cheapened it which was a shame. I think with the standard of breakfast being so high quality it would be better having bottles of sauce.

Stairs to the bedrooms were very challenging, very steep making it difficult for 80 years olds. But staff willingly assisted with luggage.
4.3
Breakfast was good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was great. Bar and restaurant were very nice; the service and food good quality.
The hotel had no AC in the room, only a fan - uncomfortable at best. The bed was very soft. The room was cramped, the stairs very tight and steep, and the toilet took several plunges to flush
4.3
the view and proximity to the beach was beautiful
my rooms was not next to one another my two daughters were down the corridor.
4.3
Great location. Enjoyed watching the sunset from the terrace outside the bar.
Staff were excellent. We were well looked after and enjoyed the food both for dinner and breakfast.
Not a major issue but it felt more like a pub with rooms. We were expecting a smarter hotel. This was based on the booking.com description and the price. Having said that we had a great night and would happily return.
4.3
Comfy rooms and a lovely location.
Breakfast was from 7am onward but on 2 occasions the breakfast room was locked and staff didn't even arrive until after us at 7am, This was more of a problem on the last day due to having a ferry booked for 8:30am, which made making it to the ferry terminal extremely tight. We were also charged for food from another room on our last night and felt like we had to prove we didn't eat there as they wanted to check with the member of staff who was serving.
4.3
By the sea.
no air conditioning on a hot day with windows which could not be opened.
4.3
The location is excellent. The staff were very kind and friendly. Food reasonable. The bedroom and bathroom were very clean, of a reasonable size and with good facilities. Good shower, but rather small shower enclosure. The dining room on the first floor has the most wonderful view of the esplanade and over the Solent to the New Forest.
Rooms are on the second floor with awkward access by a steep. winding, narrow stair, through several sets of fire doors. No lift. No proper reception, approach through the pub on the ground floor to the end of the bar counter, but our greeting was friendly and considerate. The stairs to the room smelt of cooking.
Insufficient shelf space in the bathroom for toilet bags/toilet articles, insufficient hanging space for towels, electric towel rail at high level too small to cope with towels once in use. Bed too small and too hard, Pillows fine, but would prefer a proper feather duvet to the padded bed cover provided. Windows locked, and too small / too high to take proper advantage of the wonderful views out. Colours and furnishing throughout dull and dated, red, maroon and dark brown, hardly a seaside ambiance, although some sailing pictures and decorative items did acknowledge it.
English breakfast fine, but no continental choice, fruit, croissants, juices etc. Orange juice was available. Only small packaged cereals and a small bag of muesli was offered. Other hotels present a much better selection and greater variety.
In essence this is a pub, with rooms over when, in fact, from its location and general appearance one would expect a first class hotel here. Although the staff were relaxed and friendly, and the ground floor pub is undoubtedly interesting, popular and very successful, we were otherwise disappointed by the lack of style and flourish in this great setting and came away thinking what a lost opportunity it was. It really deserves a thoroughgoing upgrade to do justice to its spectacular location.
