The executive suite do need proper maintainent especially the bath tub and water outflow system.

It’s an older building and outside downtown area. Restaurant in the hotel close early, front desk staff very friendly.

We have change 3 times.. sound proof horrible.. can hear water hammer sound when someone use the water... Toilet bowl was not properly secured.. last night power trip.. no power for half and hour.. then up floor people jump up and down have to call the front counter

Water heater is not working and we have to change room, and upon moving into the new room, similar problem happened on the following night. Bedsheets and towels are stained and yellow. I dont think this hotel is rated as said.

This is my second time staying at Vouk Hotel in Penang. I am unlikely to stay here again as the maintenance issues seem to be getting worse rather than better, unfortunately. It's not a bad place to stay; the hotel just needs a lot of work. Pros: *Central location to easily access most of Penang's popular areas; walk to Northam night market (5 minute walk), Gurney Drive/Plaza (10-20 minutes walk), and even historic Georgetown (20-30 minutes walk). *Very comfortable bed and linens. *Very spacious room and bathroom. *Great pharmacy and a Starbucks next door. *In-room, secured safe deposit box with customizable digital code. *Large workstation/desk and plenty of cabinet space. Cons: *Found several bugs/roaches in the bathroom, some adults and many babies, and one adult in the main area. *No hot water in the shower or sink the second day. *Needs minor maintenance (damaged wood flooring, inoperable wall light to the left of bed, electrical switch on left of bed sticks out from wall, wallpaper needs to be replaced, etc.) *Wifi is annoying to access, especially with a laptop. Each time you return to the room you need to re-login to the network. *Cash deposit of RM100 required to check in. *Hotel hallways are very dated and need a renovation/upgrade. *Not very quiet; you can easily hear people in the hallway and the adjacent rooms. I suggest getting a room at the far end of the hallway, furthest from the elevator, to minimize noise.

Good location. Room size is good. Lighting in the room inadequate, gloomy. Amenities insufficient. Housekeeping irregular.

Room and service was all good, facilities are temporary closed. Overall for a short stay was ok.

Rundown We booked 2 rooms both is so poor maintain. The floor is so so oily, because they using tiles, and didn't clean it. Toilet leakage The sink is literally leaking while we using it. Water Heater The water heater will suddenly no hot water in the middle of shower. Dirty in overall Table, floor, bed and everything inside the rooms don't really clean properly. Very disappointed with the rooms condition.

Nice big spacious room. Good facilities - free car park, good WiFi, swimming pool, gym. Limited restaurant service but plenty of eateries in vicinity - Gurney is just 10 mins walk away. Not sure whether its an oversight - previous occupier left a cup of bubble tea in the bin and the bin is not emptied. Limited cable TV - only loxal channels. Only 1 set of toiletries (shower gel and shampoo) for a double room. Have to request for replenishment. Booked for 2 nights but room cardkeys were deactivated after 1 night - have to get it validated at reception. Renovation is dated and the basin tap head came off easily.

Vouk (Room 411): PROS: *Secure/bolted safe to store valuables; *Blackout shades keep room dark; *Large spacious room, bathroom & shower; *Strong shower water pressure and very hot water; *Great location walkable to Georgetown, Gurney Drive and just across street from Northam Beach Cafe night market, Starbucks, pharmacy, & 24hr mini-mart; *Large workstation area and TV; *Plenty of closet/drawer space; *Four lifts so never a wait; *Nice, cozy lobby; *On-site café/restaurant; *Rooftop pool & views; *Do not disturb & housekeeping signal lights; *Universal travel plug at workstation; *Plenty of room lighting options; *Friendly staff. CONS: *Needs room maintenance to fix leaky sink/pipe causing water pool on bathroom floor; recaulk toilet at floor; clean/replace dirty/peeling wallpaper; ceiling stains; damaged wood flooring; ceiling vent above toilet drips water on your head; *WIFI connection resets each time you leave WIFI range so you continually need to reenter username/password; *Poor soundproofing from doors both between suite room & hallway; *Bed is comfortable but seems a bit shaky/unstable; *Hotel lobby is nice and hotel itself looks great/modern from outside, but interior hallways to rooms are very dated and could use modernization (new carpet/flooring, paint); *On-site cafe, Indulgence Lounge, claims to be open until 8p, but on 28 May I arrived 7.55p to place quick to-go dessert order but cafe closed with employees sitting at tables on their phones; *RM100 room deposit.

Cleanliness not up to par. Cups have stains in them and the kettle was not cleaned (foul smell inside the kettle. I think the previous customer might have cooked something in it. It goes to show that the housekeeping people did not even check the kettles or cups in the room. Although location is excellent but the cleanliness need some work.

Modern spacious rooms. Rooftop pool with great view of city. Clean. The only suggestion I have is to train the staff to learn English if the hotel wants foreigners. Most staff do not speak English…

This hotel was rated as a four star hotel, that would not be a correct assessment, it is more like a 2 star or possibly a 3 star. We booked two rooms, the first room TV did not work and the A/C did not work. There was trash behind the curtain that was not cleaned from the previous guests. The second room hot water did not work. The staff was great and helped move us from the first room to another room. This room had an adjoining door to another room and we could hear that family very clearly throughout the night.

Buffet limited. No nasi lemak as malaysian standard breakfast dish. Watermelon served is not fresh. Otherwise is great.

Room is pretty standard. For a 4 star hotel, it's over rated as there are not much facilities available like international standard restaurants, good sized swimming pool etc. Receptionist was very solemn and does not respond congenially to questions. If fact, she seems oblivious to questions posed like she's deaf (but there is no sign / badge to evince that) Worst part was the free Internet in the rooms. They give you a voucher for user name and password for 3 devices. First day we managed to log on for 2 devices. After that 1 device then 3rd day, cannot log on at all. We complained to front desk and they sent someone, then for about 15 minutes we can log on. After that, back to square one. So we have no choice but to use our own mobile data. Very poor Internet services as if they control the access.

Never make up room, never change towel, never replenish shower gel, no free welcome drinks, room bad lighting, damaged sofa, TV channel not many selection. Swimming pool never provide towel.

Looks good in pictures, but room condition was pretty bad. Not very well maintained. Floor sticky, bathroom tiles mouldy, sink top cracked.

I was wondering how a 4 star with malfunctioning hot water….

The bathroom did not have a floor towel when we entered which is a basic and we have to request for it. They don't provide any hand or face towels. Just 2 bath towels. A couple of the pillow cases were creased and have stained marks so we requested for a change. We need to remind them 3 times before they send someone to change the pillow case eventhough we can see that there were not many guests in the hotel since it's off peak season. The sound proof of our room was terrible as we can hear voices from a man speaking with a lady on a cellphone. Imagine we can even hear the lady's voice from the other side of the cellphone! Otherwise, the room is quite spacious with other standard amenities. They do provide toothbrush and other sanitaries. Price of room was reasonable.

Staff was friendly. Room were nice and spacious. Its location is strategic for us to get to the places we intended to visit.
