there were roaches in my room. I called immediately and a nice gentleman showed up and picked it up with a tissue and threw it in the trash for me. I was offered a different room, but I just wanted to leave and find a new location with a clean room. The Hotel refused to refund me for my stay, and I was forced to spend additional money on a new hotel room for the following night. Awful experience with Howard Johnson, will NEVER stay here again. I called the Hotel immediately and Hotels.com but the representative was unable to get my money back for me either. I guess Howard Johnson needs my $300 more than I do...

The front desk staff was extremely helpful, Immediately he changed our room when he realized we requested Non-smoking and we were given a smoking room.

It was just a place to sleep for one night the deposit was $250 which was a lil crazy. It was a rough area and there was quite a few homeless outside the property but they would stay out there so that’s good. The room had a dingy smell once inside and needed new towels they were so old and over used. The cherry on top was the blood stains on the curtain. But I survived the stay. Also the staff was super friendly.

Pros: Great price. Good location just about 10-15 minutes from Sea World and the San Diego Zoo. They had a basic breakfast of cereal, yogurt, oatmeal, and Juices in the morning which was nice and they cleaned our room (including making our bed, taking out the trash, and replenishing our towels while we were gone. Staff was good. Check in prosses was very quick and while I wouldn't say the employee was overly friendly, he was efficient and answered all my questions. The only con was that when we arrived in the early evening there were a few people congregating in the parking lot who looked a little suspect but we had no problems at all.
