Beautiful place. Quiet and serene.

Loved the property and being in nature. Close to center of Santa Elena if you have a car, otherwise it’s a 20-min or so walk and you have to go up and down an incline. So it’s not super convenient into the center by foot. But taxis cost $5 to and from the center and shuttles are $4 one-way to National parks. The surroundings here are very peaceful and beautiful and you’ll see lots of birds, butterflies, and other animals!

Excellent breakfast, very nice staff, comfortable beds, beautiful property and you can see butterflies and birds while you eat! Also surprisingly high quality beauty products and overall eco-friendly place. Great deal of a hotel! Not fancy but very cozy and felt like home. Loved it

It is a magical place, you have an amazing view in the room and also at the lobby, internet service, a hiking very close, is really nice!

Cala Lodge is in a beautiful natural setting, relatively quiet but within walking distance of shops and restaurants. The lodge has a helpful staff, high sustainability ratings (Blue Flag and Green Leaf) and contributes to the local community. Excellent breakfast included in rates. Some of the smaller rooms are less comfortable, but all are clean and well provisioned. We will definitely come back.

Very helpful with information at check-in, booked a night tour for us. Great room with balcony to listen to rain, birds, howlers while staying dry & relaxing. Walkable area to restaurants & a trail on property for bird watching.

We loved our stay at Cala Lodge! The staff went out of their way for us and gave us good information on many questions about the area. They even set up a birding guide for us; Roy Porras was excellent, top notch! We saw so many great birds from our deck and the breakfast area!!! We would definitely visit their again and I highly recommend Cala Lodge!!!

1. Beautiful surroundings
2. “Suites” are actually 4 small apartments in one building. Family next door with little kids up at 6:30, and they are in the next room. Not their fault, but no insulation so super loud.
3. Not enough parking so we returned from dinner in the pouring rain to find our parking spot gone
4. Looked forward to tea and cake from 3-5, but the cake was gone upon our arrival at 3:45 and never replenished.
5. Most expensive place we stayed and felt like the cheapest.

This is a simple and cute property in Monteverde, not far from the town (as long as you have a car). The staff is very friendly and helped us book all of our tours. The breakfast was also excellent.
Our favorite part about the property were the animals we saw. Toucanets, hummingbirds, and lots of other small birds and mammals were roaming around - what a treat!

We absolutely loved this hotel.
The staff were lovely.
The view from.our room was great. We saw coati right from the balcony jumping in the trees. Lots of hummingbirds and aguti.
They have a trail through the property.
The breakfast is wonderful!! So much food.
They also do tea/coffee and cake from 3-5.
There are a number of restaurants within 5 min walk (try Alissons). The main town was about 20 mins walk away.
I would book here again and I recommend it.

Absolutely beautiful location. Our room was facing the cloud forest and it’s just breathtaking. The property is beautifully maintained. We loved our stay here and I wish we had more days in Monte verde.

Great beautiful property. Breakfast is the best part of this property. Option for vegetarian people as well! No AC but there is a fan and cooler in the room. And the location is chilly typically that you don’t need AC. You can open windows if you would like. Must stay for those looking for cheap convenient yet beautiful place to stay.

Being in our room here almost felt like being in an upscale cabin or treehouse! It was very quiet and peaceful. There were thunderstorms at night and I loved listening to them while lying in bed. The bathroom was extremely nice with good soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion. There is a lovely trail at the back of the property.

The service was amazing. The staff was very helpful with our needs. The food was freshly made and it was delicious! There have a small area by the hotel where you can walk and see wildlife. We were able to see monkeys within close proximity from the main lobby.

Great, friendly staff. Beautiful grounds, including their own nature trail. Great view of surrounding mountains and calories from an expansive balcony that is used for the breakfast area as well as for lounging. It overlooks a small garden where you are guaranteed to see lots of hummingbirds. The furnishings are a bit old but everything is clean and tidy. Our room had its own private balcony.

Location is great. We arrived after dark so did not see much that night. But once we woke up, the area is so pretty. The jungle area is right after the property. We woke up early due to birds chirping all around us (we loved it). Saw various birds, anteater was moving around in the trees, humming birds moving around. Very quite and soothing place. The breakfast was included in the stay. Different options and you can order the items and they will prepare for you. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They also helped with any questions we had as well as booking the excursions we wanted to do. Overall, very happy with the place and if we will go back, this place will surely be on our list to stay.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. Rooms are what many would call basic but ideal for the setting - clean, hot showers, private sitting areas for views of forest. Nice little walking trail a bonus in their grounds. The excellent food at breakfast complemented by all the birds just off the veranda. In the words of my wife, property was cute and adorable.
