Lots of character...LOTS. Home away from home. Loved it. Great bangers and mash. Hope the lambshanks are back on the menu when we return later this year.

No lift and stairs are quite steep. Lovely willing staff helped with my suitcase, but I doubt I will stay there again because of the stairs.

Wonderful hotel and pub with old English charm. We loved our stay at the Rutand Arms Inn! Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. The pub food and adult beverages were great! We highly recommend the Hotel if you’re staying in Whanganui.

Beautiful rooms, great location, wonderful breakfast and amazing beers. Didn't have dinner there because we'd had pub grub the previous three nights in a row so can't comment on the dinner options

Nice little hotel right in the center of town. Well renovated old building with a few quirks. Comfortable spacious room with AC and solid WiFi.

We stayed at the Rutland Arms as part of a longer stay on our drive down to Wellington. The staff were all very friendly and the room decor was very nice. We didn't make it to the bar to get a drink in the evening, but the breakfast was good with a choice of cereals, yoghurt, berries, toast, and coffee. Only negatives were that the room was quite warm (even though the ceiling fan was on) and there was some paint missing in the bathroom that hindered the overall room decor. The hallway was much cooler than the room and the room is facing the sun, so perhaps adding blackout curtains to keep the sun out during the day might be an easy fix.

Great staff quirky property

The Rutland Arms Hotel is a gem in the heart of Whanganui. The individual and thoughtful decor of the rooms captures the essence of the historic origins of the hotel and the restaurant and bar are bustling and cosy, offering a varied menu and catering very well for GF. The continental breakfast, included in the tariff was excellent. We’ll definitely be back.

This was a lovely Boutique Hotel! Loved it’s quaintness and good amenities! Dinner was excellent and we will definitely stay here again!

Arrived just before 8:30pm. Reception closed, went to bar to check in. Informed kitchen was closed other than chips or wedges which is illegal in NZ as food must be provided. Eventually we were offered a chicken salad or burger which we declined. Basically we went to our room at 9:30pm as they started to vacuum the bar area with no food and a couple of drinks. Admittedly it was a Monday but $190 per night is too steep for what was on offer not a lot.

We enjoyed our short stay here. Whanganui is a great place, and the hotel is well-located. It had a fine atmosphere. We walked everywhere. The room was huge and comfortable. Breakfast was great. The host was very friendly. Would recommend.
