It was fine for what I needed just a sleeping area for a quick stop over. Having a kitchen was great. For me the only issue was the lack of parking. Although there was secure parking within the premises it didn't appear to be available to me. Free on street parking was available over the weekend within walking distance but not sure about week days.

That's no parking here. Visitors need to park in Asda across the road, and use the Just park app to pay for it.
Fully expected everything to be basic, and it was, with everything working ok. Decent shower in the room. The welcome at reception was, well, not the friendliest.

Great stay, everything was clean and tidy. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Easy to get too, great facilities. Would highly recommend

Unfortunately on arrival the person in charge of the desk was busy socialising with fellow students and got oneself locked out of the office.
It took quite a while and a polite nudge to be able getting into the room after travelling all the way from Edinburgh down to Newport in Wales.
Having stated at similar campuses, this should offer more value for money.
Also, next door was a very inconsiderate mature student with loud noises if various media until midnight and beyind, then at 6.40am playing loud music.Rested?

Check-in was easy. The personnel were always nice and helpful. However, when I checked in, the room I was assigned was dirty, and had never been made by housekeeping. That was messy, but easily solved. It seemed like a smaller room that the one I was re-assigned.
There's a lobby area and laundry access but you have to download an app and create an account in order to use the washer and dryer.
It's an okay area at night but super safe during the day.
Love that there is a water refill and hot water station with coffee and tea products in the lobby.
I was able to leave my luggage for a few hours after checking out. And it feels super safe inside the building because I needed to scan my fob in any area I accessed (usually about 5 fob areas on the way to your room). The shared kitchen area is big and there's mugs and some utensils your can use, but mine didn't have a knife so there went my plans to cut up some fruits. There's a microwave and a big refrigerator you can use.
The main issues I had were the following: no safe in the room. The shower was a horrible experience since the curtain was too short and there was no barrier separating it from the bathroom floor so the water flooded all over the place while the shower curtain kept sticking to me as I showered AND I could hear any snore or movement from my neighbor at night. And I'm sure he could hear me breathing too.

It’s a student dorm, so I had no expectations of grandeur. That said, I have stayed in my fair share if them. The treatment you get from their staff, who I expect are students, is dismissive. The floors are nasty and the shower and toilet are a compartment setup. The shower drain was so plugged that the who compartment flooded. The area is dodgy, and in transition. It is an area where the British government is depositing enormous numbers of recent migrants, mainly African and South Asian, mostly men. If you are going to experience Welsh culture then Newport is not the place to go. Actually South Wales is not very Welsh. Demographically it looks like any other large North American city.

Located next to a major road bridge if, as we were, allocated a third floor room, the same level as the road it is very difficult to get a good nights sleep. In addition the walls are paper thin. Staff very nice and tried to help but due to limited rooms were unable to move us to the other side of the building.

Great value for money close to all amenities could do with a bit of updating in rooms bed not very comfortable mattress was to soft.
Shower curtain was broken didn’t go all the way round but didn’t affect having a shower other than water going everywhere other than that still a great stay for the money paid would definitely use again if I go that way again
4.1
Basic (as you would expect of student accommodation), but clean and comfortable and very friendly helpful reception staff. Very thin walls, so don’t do noisy things, or expect others not to. The only issue for me was car parking - the local car park is a building site and staff can’t guarantee it won’t get locked overnight. The alternative is Asda, who can’t guarantee you won’t get fined.. 5-10 minute walk to town, better if you walk up the walk walkway along the River Usk than the dual carriageway Usk Way. Would stay again.

Clean, amenities of kitchen, 24h reception

My stay here worked out really well. Got just what I expected. The accommodation was clean and easy to access. Had access to a kitchen so I could eat in rather than out and had a desk to work from. The only downside was the wifi speed was pretty poor.
4.1
Really good stay. Basic hotel but great value for money. It has everything you need for a quick stay over
Staff were also very friendly
4.1
Due to hot weather it was essential to leave window open, unfortunately room faced onto dual carriageway so was continually noisy preventing a good nights sleep, I am sure a room at the other end facing the river would not have this problem - shame really as otherwise good value

No mini tour ,or explanations on how to use a shower( took a very cold shower ,couldn't wash hair ),or laundry machines ,til I complained ! I was ignored / left outside for about 10 minutes prior my check in !! Jon was a very nice guy & made all good afterwards ! ( 2 very friendly Jon / John ,one helped a lot was Jon w/ a carp tatoo ? ) Very nice kitchen w/ a wonderful view & tv !! Very high security ! Great price ! Very humid inside ! 10 -15 min.walk to the city centere !! Bed was o.k.! Desk & window were dusty !The room was very clean!Very nice kids staying there !! A black ? young man on the ground floor helped me to enter my bld.!A good accomodation to stay for a couple of days w/ a low budget !

Ideal for what we wanted, group of friends travelling from London for a local festival

Room was very clean and comfortable: Check super quick and friendly. Only slight negative was the walls were quite thin and loud snorer next door!

Accomodation was ideally located, perfect for visiting Cardiff. Good location within Newport, close to transport links & local eateries. Accomodation was basic but clean, secure & perfect for a short stay. Definitely value for money, I would use again & recommend to others.

Ideal for COVID world with everyone having separate rooms and bathrooms. Check-in was easy and the secure parking was appreciated.

For Budget accommodation Newport Student Village is the best. I had a relatively spacious single room - ample desk view of town and river Usk. Shower basin and toilet neat clean and spacious enough for any adult whatever size. Access to spacious shared kitchen / living room with fridges, microwave stove - table and chairs and lounge seating and a detailed book on Newport available. So you could bring in your own food and eat in comfort and not in your room. There was TV the in kitchen / living room. Suggest bring an extra blanket or rug. I had this - I do not know if extra blanket would be available if one requested this. Very prompt service when requested light over the desk area be fixed.

Very nice accommodation and very good service

Nice place

The room and facilities were clean and tidy. The one disappointing aspect was the parking. Had to find change to pay for parking and could only pay up till 1:30am . Received a £60 parking fine and when addressed at hotel reception they just shrugged and said there’s nothing they can do. If you provide accommodation surely negotiating adequate parking for your guests is part of the service? So the inexpensive accommodation was not to be. Will not be returning Ibis far better service and free parking!

Very central for shops Lidl 5 minutes walk and kingsway multi story car park 10 minutes and reasonble charge for over night secure parking. Only thing could have done with tv in room but that's me being picky otherwise excellent stay would use again.
4.1
Warm well equipped room & spacious well fitted communal kitchen/ lounge
Shower lacked effective extraction
4.1
Pros: The large double room was clean, and good value. The beds are comfortable. The kitchen was clean and was equipped for basic cooking.
Cons: The en-suite bathroom was a wet room which drained slowly leaving the bathroom floor wet for some time. The room faced a very busy dual carriageway and the traffic noise was intrusive. The private car park immediately next to the hall of residence is cheap at £4.50 per day but you need to get up for 06:30 each morning to buy a ticket for the day to avoid a £60.00 penalty.
4.1
Clean, modern, good conveniences (kitchenware). Good location for shops (Asda, Lidl).
Shower space in the single room was to small for an adult.
Soundproofing for windows wasn't very good.
Great for the price (<£50)

I stay here a lot and it offers absolutely amazing value. The staff are extremely helpful, the rooms are clean and access to a decent kitchen is a real bonus if you’re working away for extended periods and would prefer to get away from eating out and takeaways. The WIFI is very good as well and if you need shopping there’s a LIDL and an ASDA very close by.
A lot has been said about parking but prior to staying here I found it really difficult to get any definitive information about how and where to park for access to the accommodation. So, here’s what I’ve learned about parking at this place :-
1) Parking in Newport itself– This is a cheap option (around £1-£2 for overnight) but this is about a 10 minute walk from the rooms. Fine if you’re fit and don’t have too much luggage. A few of my colleagues use this option.
2) Parking in the car park next to the accommodation. Other reviewers are correct in that this isn’t owned by the campus and so they can’t issue parking permits. So, on the face of it, it’s a “pay and display” car park with no option to pay with a card which isn’t that convenient. HOWEVER, the landowners (whose details you can get from the campus) are very happy to sell you a weekly or monthly parking permit that again works out to be just a couple of pounds/day (and you don’t need to find change every day). I did this and, having emailed the landowner in the morning (and sent them the money electronically), they emailed me the permit the same day.

Great location, near to supermarkets and a £4 taxi ride to the station.
Comfortable rooms and good facilities.
4.1
It was close to the mall and the bus station. Also close to restaurants with unlimited choices. The shower was too small.
4.1
I liked the ease of parking and the secure nature of the accommodation.
Reception was 24hr and the room was big and the shower was excellent.
A bit like a Premier Inn but less expensive.
I will definitely use again.
4.1
Liked value for money and overall ambience.
Didn’t like road noise which repeatedly woke me up.
4.1
Booked for rugby weekend, ideal base for travel into Cardiff
4.1
Parking not provided, closest and only option is lay and display next door where the parking metre resets at 0630 every day
4.1
This is not a standard hotel. It is safe clean and if you are prepared to share living TV kitchen to make own food or eat out it does the job. Parking a bit tricky but good value
4.1
The accommodation was convenient and close to the train station.
4.1
Very pleasant experience. Only bad thing which literally ruined my whole trip was I came in to check in at 12pm after a long journey. Was advised to come back at 2pm because they had a busy day and the check ins would be late.
4.1
I do not really like being high up and I was on floor 6. I did have a good view of river and surrounds. I was pleased that the technology for opening doors etc. worked. I have had trouble with such things elsewhere. Room was a good size. Clear labels to re-cycling bins in kitchen.
4.1
The only positive I can think of is how friendly the receptionist was, and how apologetic she was about the corrupt private parking adjasent to the accommodation.
Your parking ticket expires at 1:30am (yes, that at night) and the staff told me that the land owner had been known to be out there at 2am in the morning ticketing cars.
The room was poor, old springy mattress, noisy nearby busy roads and the smell of exhaust fumes.
Just an awful place to stay, and if you are driving and don't want a £60 fine then choose somewhere else.
4.1
Room was surprisingly big for student accommodation. If you’re looking for a 5 star hotel go to a 5 star hotel, but if you’re looking for something that’s cheap and cheerful this is definitely the place for you!
