Everything about this hotel was excellent! Great location, comfortable rooms, lots of parking, lovely breakfast. The friendly and helpful staff deserve a special mention as they made a great stay even better. Great value and would definitely stay again.

This is a good hotel, well run with good food. The only thing they could improve on is the information on their restaurant. It is Egon Ronay recomended but only the table d'hôte menu (excellent but limited) and bar menu is available Monday to Thursday. A full a là carte menu is available at the weekend. I was told by different staff that the restaurant was closed Monday & Tuesday (untrue) fully open (untrue) and, correctly, open all week but the full a là carte menu only available at the weekend. The hotel is well positioned with its own car park.

Our room was lovely - the bed was comfortable and inviting. The bathroom was massive, with walk in shower and a fabulous bath. We loved the use of complimentary dressing gowns and an iron and ironing board. The mini bar with five or six free drinks, plus the usual tea and coffee facilities, were all most welcome. Everything in the hotel was spotlessly clean. Staff were, without exception, friendly, helpful and professional. The classic Afternoon Tea was wonderful. Breakfast was also good and included in our overnight stay. A lovely treat for 24 hours!

Excellent hotel. Close to town center. Staff are wonderful and take great care of the guests.

Everything about the hotel and staff was excellent and could not be faulted apart from the cost of drinks which were very high. Fabulous little pub literally at hotel gate called The Foresters, strongly recommend.We were quite disappointed with Colchester itself and surrounding area so we found the location not great.Generally hotel is brilliant and we had great stay

Have never had such a great deal as the last occasion using Hotels.com
It was £200 cheaper than before same amount of nights and one of the best hotel rooms.

Small room and the meal was terrible not normal standards for us so this had made us not wanting to return which is a shame because we return at least 3x a year

Our stay was a lovely experience friendly staff room was ready early so was able to check in. Shops near by 3min walk , great place to stay and a brilliant breakfast what more could you want .

Our room was not like the pictures and was across the road not part of the mail building - swimming pool not private with people say at booths drinking round it. Room has no coffee making facilities and room smelled of dinners. Behind shower millions of cobwebs and we were forgotten about for 25mins in breakfast.

The hotel and grounds are truly lovely. Hint: They have parking, so call ahead to get the 'trick' before you arrive.

Very enjoyable stay and credit to all the staff. Great outside terrace to relax by the bar area and food was excellent - overall it was a great stay and look forward to returning soon

I stayed at Greyfriars when visiting from Canada for my cousin's wedding. My hotel room was beautiful and spacious. The breakfasts were amazing and the staff polite, friendly and accommodating. The location was convenient. Loved every minute! Would highly recommend.

Was upgraded to a suite with outside terrace which was great.
Only niggle was the bath plug wouldn't empty so all in all, a great stay.
Had a crab dish for dinner which was fresh and tasty.

We had a fantastic night- our room was fabulous, the staff were professional and efficient and the hotel was well located. It’s a beautiful building that has been tastefully renovated and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Great hotel. Room was lovely, bed very comfy. There was air on which was easy to control and very welcome. Bathroom was fantastic with a large deep bath, double shower and double sink. There was a complimentary bar which was good. breakfast was really good with a great choice and as much of anything as you wanted, all waiter service. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Great hotel to stay in in Colchester with that added luxury.

Loved the hotel, the food was delicious and the room was lovely. Very clean and tidy. All the staff were very helpful. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel we really enjoyed our stay.

A very pleasant stay in this peaceful hotel again. On this occasion I had a delicious evening meal in the bar overlooking the terrace. The standard & presentation of the food at breakfast was also excellent.

This hotel is very run down in all aspects. I would not recommend it. Room is not clean, phone hardly works dusty. Window curtains do not close. Did not have room service.
