Get what you get for a conference centre hotel. Not far from town to walk but trams readily available anyway

I'm frequently travelling to Basel and I always wanted to check out the Hyperion. My main reasons for booking this hotel were the gym and wellness part so I can recharge at the end of a couple long days.
It turned out that the gym/wellness was closed due to renovation. I get irritated by hotels that do not inform the guests prior to booking. I would have expected the Hyperion management being able to manage the distribution of relevant information but instead the hotel information were not updated, setting wrong expectations and allowing disappointments to occur. Additionally they had massive issues with their IT systems which didn't allow me to extend my stay. Therefore I had to check out and book another hotel.
Overall pretty unlucky events paired with unsatisfying experiences and improvable management.
If anyone is reading this - the hotel is nice so I don't recommend to avoid the hotel. The quality of my stay simply wasn't on par with the money I paid for it.

I really liked the hotel. It is comfortable, the rooms have good beds and pillows, large TV, minibar, great view on Basel and the nearest tram stop is just in front of the hotel. The check-out time of 12:00 is also generous.
My only disappointment was that the temporary closure of the fitness room was not updated on hotels.com but together with the friendly reception staff we found a solution that kept me happy. Thank you! :)

The only issue we had was there was no hot water in the morning for us to shower. I wish I had thought to shower the evening before! It was fixed within two hours, but that didn't work for our program.
I would stay here again. It was otherwise very comfortable. Upgraded room was on a higher floor and had a nice view but not sure it was worth the upcharge.
