The Monastery Spa and The Monastery Suites both charged our credit card for our three night stay in August. Despite me calling twice in August to ask their help in correcting the issue, they have not done anything and now I need to ask my credit card company to dispute the charge. I spoke with someone on the desk who said they would help last month, and nothing heard since. Not impressed with service.

We were originally booked into the Monastery, but when we arrived we were given a room in the basement. We did not want to stay in the basement, the windows were high and small. I returned later to look at the rooms on the upper floors and would have been happy to stay in one of those.
We were offered a room at Leaside Manor, which we appreciated. Our stay at Leaside was very nice overall, however, the stairs and entrance from the parking lot was not ideal for us. We understand that it is an older property. The bathroom in the Parker Room is not ideal, the shower is very small, the lighting is poor. I could not use bathroom to dry my hair and do my makeup. The breaker tripped while I was drying my hair, I had to sit at the desk in the main area to dry my hair. The dryer cord was hardly long enough and kept falling out of the outlet. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay. Leaside is a charming place to stay, the bed was comfortable and we enjoyed the breakfast and conversation with other guests.

Easy check in and the staff was helpful and friendly. It is an older property so that’s really the only reason for the 4 stars. Also no blackout curtains which would have been nice. The king room was huge though!

Room was very well equipped, roomy, modernized and clean. Area was peaceful, tucked away from traffic and just quiet. They have a similar peaceful bistro with a nice tucked away outdoor patio. The spa is a fantastic addition though I didn't have time try it. It does look like a full service spa and wellness centre.

Was in a room in the basement and thought there was a pool due to the chemical smell.. turns out it is just their laundry room down the hall. Not a horrible place but definitely not worth the price ($260/night). Would only stay again if their price got lowered.. a lot.

The hotel was clean, the beds were comfortable and the staff was friendly. The hotel is very quiet while we were there. We also had a heat wave during our stay & the hotel had the room prepped so it was nice & cool for our arrival (which was not the case at other hotels during our travels!). I found this to be one of the few hotels downtown where you didn’t have to pay for parking & there was lots of parking. This is nice because parking is limited in downtown St Johns. It was an easy walk to George St/Water St area for food & shopping. Although you do have to walk up a hill to get back to the hotel at the end of an evening.
The only issue we had with the hotel &why i didn’t give it 5 stars is because the WiFi is horrible.

The shower stall was dirty. Reception desk unmanned during check-in. Staff weren't friendly, copied my ID and credit card without permission, and wouldn't give it back because "it gets shredded anyway".

I’ve stayed at some of the nicest hotels in Canada and around the world. This room was beautiful and relaxing, the hotel was quiet with aroma therapy scents seeming to be everywhere. The restaurant checked in via phone to see if we planned to come for dinner or order room service and to notify us that they were closing a little earlier. We opted to order skip the dishes as we wanted to stay in the room and the room service menu was limited. Had we seen the full menu we probably would have gone down for dinner but we got to visit the bistro the next morning. The sip and soak was relaxing, and well worth it. They have a beautiful patio with comfortable seating and quiet instrumental music playing just loud enough. It was a great get away and I look forward to planning our stay further in advance to experience more spa treatments in the future.
