Dinner in the lobby was good and we didn't have to go out during the rainstorm. We also enjoyed the History Stairway with the excellent photos and Portland trivia. I was happy to see that many president's stayed at The Benson and that 45 was not among them! Desk staff and restaurant service staff were exceptional.

The grandeur was unexpected in the lobby for a hotel at this price level. The staff were attentive .

Location, service and cleanliness.

We upgraded to a suite. It was spacious! The room was clean. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was nice and spacious. I liked that the shampoo, conditioner and body wash were in bottles attached to the shower wall, very convenient! There was entertainment (lounge singer, piano player) downstairs in the lobby at night.

The location was not great. Lots of transients and we saw open air drug use outside of the hotel. You definitely do not want to walk outside, alone after dark.

Lobby looks nice. Front staff was polite. Valet was wonderful.

Our room was filthy. Visible grime on light switches in bathroom and leftover soap scum from previous guests. Conditioner bottle was either empty or broken. The bathroom sink is so small and couldn’t wash your hands without getting water everywhere. We had dirty sheets with blood stains. The a/c was ineffective; our room was hot and humid. Because we made reservations through booking.com the manager said refunding was difficult so he comped the valet parking fee of 49.00 and gave us honors points.

It is a historic beauty beautifully restored and maintained.

The location is a convenient walk to many things in the area like Powells Books. Also the staff is always friendly! The valet parking is also really convenient which I appreciate. The rooms are always nice and if you need anything they are more than happy to help.

The noise level you get from the street can get a little bad at certain times. Also the area the hotel is in is still coming back after covid, it didn't feel as safe in the area as years past, but the hotel does great with security and floors are keyed access only.

Gorgeous and well kept historic building

It’s in one of the Portland neighborhoods that are struggling a bit post COVID - but that’s not The Benson’s fault.

Everything was lovely! It was absolutely beautiful and immaculately clean. I stayed in a King corner room and it was a great deal for what we received. The little restaurant was a high note as well!

There was almost no room for improvement. I quite like a hotel pool or a spa in the building, but I realize that isn't exactly a reasonable ask.

I had a superb stay in a king corner room. Friendly staff who’s intention is to make your stay great. Comfortable bedding, nice city views.

The shower was difficult to get the water temperature dialed in.

The Benson is an historical building with original design elements in tact. Grand, high ceilings. Lots of beautiful woodwork & ceiling moldings & detail. Grand fire place. The place was still decorated for Christmas & was just gorgeous. The lobby & bar area were places you wanted to hang out in. Just wonderful!

The room was spacious - incredibly roomy. Bed was comfy and the couch was too. But there are 2 chairs in the room that sit basically like office chairs - you wouldn't spend any more time on them then to put on your shoes. Those could be improved. And the lack of any other furniture in the room was odd. It felt like a half decorated room. Not minimalism on purpose, but like someone didn't finish which is such an odd opposition to the grandeur of the lobby & beautiful details in the main parts of the hotel.
