Absolutely beautiful and so much history

Villa Margaridi is an absolute oasis and one we would return to and recommend without hesitation. It's truly idyllic, made even more so by our host Jose and his manager Hugo. Our villa had fabulous tall windows overlooking the beautiful gardens.

The gardens are gorgeous and have an interesting history. The pool was a nice refreshing retreat. The apartment was clean, large and spacious.

This is not the first time I have stayed at Villa Margaridi, nor will it be the last. This is a piece of Heaven on earth. Guimarães is a lovely little town but the Villa itself is so special and such a gem. José, the proprietor and host is so kind, attentive, and willing to share his home and history with all of his guests. And Hugo, his manager, is an absolute delight. Equally as kind and attentive. The two constantly go out of their way to make your stay that much better- in both small and significant ways. 10/10 every time. Obrigada, gentlemen!

it is hard to find words to describe how special this property is. It is set in Jose’s ancestral home dating from the 15th century and our apartment had a view of the beautiful heritage listed garden which was planted in the 17th century. Hugo and Jose make staying here a magical experience as they share the history of the home and care for their guests. If you have a car it is easy to drive to and you can avoid driving in the busy town centre. We walked into town each day and returned mid afternoon to relax by the delightful pool. We assembled a light dinner each night so that we could eat outside while enjoying the beautiful view.

Be careful not to hit your head on the underside of the stairs.

We felt welcome and the area was quiet, inside the e city, with a great guided tour to the baroque garden that is very well preserved.

A truly stunning property, with amazing views, and such a rich history - as beautiful as the pictures suggest, and even more relaxing. Centrally located, so close to the old town, but from the moment we drove down the tree lined driveway we felt like we could have easily been in the countryside. A 20 minute walk, or 5 minute drive into the centre of the old town, and half that distance to 2 supermarkets. José is the most considerate host, and extremely generous - thank you for the prefect stay.

We had excelent breakfast and fresh bread was delivered to our villa every morning. We loved learning about the history of the estate and the people who lived there through the centuries. The estate and the gardens were magnificent, and the villas were beautifully decorated. The service provided by Jose, the host, was wonderful and Villa Margaridi should become a destination for everyone visiting Portugal.

Mr Jose the owner is very kind and helpful. Initially we could not find the property and he was very kind and patient to give directions and even waited for us at the main road. The property was stunning with beautiful gardens and sceneries. Mr Jose took us around the gardens whilst explaining the history of the property. He even served us with glasses of lovely port wine and daily bread. Absolutely divine. We highly recommend this place

This is a truly magical place. The room was incredible - the décor, the special touches were simply first class. The breakfast delivery was such a treat. And then there are the gardens. José was there to welcome me to the Villa, and took me around the stunning gardens, explaining the concept of a baroque garden, while sharing his deep Portuguese roots and long family history. Villa Margaridi and Camellia Japonica will forever be in my heart. Thank you José, for creating such an incredible experience, I will not soon forget. Beautiful place.

I only wish I could have stayed longer

We loved the beautiful setting, the amenities, and Jose was a wonderful host.

Nothing, it was perfect. If being picky, the only thing missing was a walk in shower but it is a nicely renovated old house.

This is an exceptional place. A Xth century mansion, wonderfully renovated and kept. With amazing garden which deserves special review. The part we stayed in was well designed with beautiful old furniture mixed with new pieces and technique, everything - sparkling clean. Upon arrival we were given a private tour in the garden. Jose provided us with precious local tips and was very helpful and exceptionally friendly. The only disadvantage was that we stayed just one night. I strongly recommend having a holiday there! Our stay was fantastic, the garden and grounds are beautifully maintained. It is located within walking distance (20-25 minutes) of the historic centre. The villas are very comfortable and José and Hugo are the most helpful and personable hosts I've ever met anywhere I have stayed.

The room was well appointed and nicely designed. We enjoyed being given an in-depth tour of the gardens and family history of the Villa. The Villa has been maintained with an emphasis on sustainable practices and ecological values. The heritage trees were quite impressive, and we adored the playful Portuguese Shepherd pups!

The break we needed after a stressful week. Villa Margaridi was exactly what we were looking for: peaceful, surrounded by nature and a beautiful garden, comfy. However I cannot talk about the Villa without mentioning José, our host. José was "la creme de la creme". He accompanied us from the day we made the reservation until the parking lot on the day we left, ensuring that we had everything we needed for our stay. He met us as well at the parking on the day of our arrival, offered us wine testing, the tour of his garden and property that he is passionate about....José offered us a very warm welcome and excellent customer service that we will not forget. Thank you again José!

This was the most beautiful property. I was blown away by the 17th century Baroque Gardens and gorgeous pool. Our "apt" was perfect - great style and lovely views from our front porch. Jose and Hugo were the most accommodating, hospitable and friendly hosts. They even added some special tastings for us. Guimaraes is well located as a base in this area. We had such a wonderful time staying at Villa Margaridi! Our highest recommendation!!!

We werent sure what to expect for breakfast or housekeeping so clearer communication on those. Otherwise it truly was perfect.
