A proposito di questa casa vacanza
Cabuya CR Beautiful Beach Front with Central AC

An awesome place in an awesome location!
Beautiful and remote!

This area of Costa Rica is a hidden gem. I don’t want to tell you how wonderful it is because I would love for it to stay that way! Staying in Cabuya/Montezuma was an adventure. Montezuma and Santa Teresa are close by. We enjoyed the area restaurants and beaches. If you want to be off the grid, this is the place for you. The house was clea, has everything you need and the beds were comfy! The upstairs is more of a loft area with a tv area, so there is not a closed door. It was just fine for us. At low tide you can walk down the beach a good ways and there are surf spots nearby. Would definitely rent again!

Neil’s place is a great place to stay. The waterfront is gorgeous and great for swimming during high tide. Very calm water. Should have water shoes since it is rocky, small rocks.
The house is very well air conditioned and spacious. Kitchen is well stocked with any utensil or pan you may need. Ice cube maker in large fridge was a God send. Make some cubes and store in the ice bucket in the freezer because the cube making takes some time. Also appreciated the filtered water from the fridge.
Comfortable extra large beds and much appreciated having two bathrooms.
The best thing was the washer/dryer. After having travelled for quite a few days it was wonderful to do an actual laundry wash, not just a sink rinse.
Location is convenient. Quiet and enough isolated for privacy but easy walk into the village or to Cemetery Island. The island is an interesting site to walk to during low tide.
Road into Cabuya from Montezuma is a dirt road but in pretty good shape. We were there during dry season so not sure what it would be like in rainy months.
Would highly recommend for a family or two couples.

This property was perfect for our family to enjoy Cabuya and Montezuma for week! The front yard view can’t be beat. Waking up and walking to the hammock to watch the sunrise was a highlight and a beautiful way to start each day.
I was very happy with the flexible and responsive communication I had with Neil upon booking and leading up to our stay. When we arrived in Cabuya, we connected with the house manager Jenny who was so helpful and told us everything we needed to know about the house.
The house is well appointed with everything we needed to cook. Beds were comfy. There were plenty of towels and the washer and dryer was a huge plus so we could pack light.
A highlight of our trip was booking a tour to tortuga and getting some fishing in with 2 local fishermen who Jenny connected us with.
Cabuya is a great little town and I highly recommend this home if you’re coming to the area!

I felt at home! Neil's house is beautiful, very cozy, you will not need anything when staying in it !!!
We couldn't bathe in the sea, there was a lot of stone, floating tree trunks and a lot of garbage. It would be nice if the house had a pool, there isn't much to have fun in the area so a pool would be nice.

I could not have been more pleased! The location was just what I was hoping for... Beachfront, big trees with howler monkeys, along a neat road with a little soda right around the corner. The house was within walking distance to the cemetery island, and the best part: white faced cupuchin monkeys down the beach, away from everyone. Inside, the house had something very unique... Excellent AC with three split units. It was a wonderfully designed interior, and the beds were supremely comfortable, down to the pillows. I also loved swimming in the rain right there at the house. If I had known how perfect this place was, I would have booked more time. Thank you so much!

We loved our stay here. The house was exactly as shown. We enjoyed being greeted by the Howler monkeys in the mornings, and also all the birds we saw frequently around the property. The yard was beautiful, and well taken care of. Also loved all the drift wood, and shell art work that was there to enjoy. The Adirondack chairs, and hammock rounded out the ambience of the yard and beach view made the whole experience amazing! I could have been happy never leaving the VRBO.

We really enjoyed our two weeks in Cabuya. Check-in was a breeze, and Jenny, the property manager was great. She gave us a very thorough orientation to the house when we arrived, and was always available to answer questions, etc. The house was spacious, with wonderful views of the ocean, and well equipped with every thing we needed. Watching the monkeys scamper around the trees while drinking out morning coffee was a special treat. We will definitely return.

Hidden paradise!
Our stay in Cabuya was exactly as we hoped! We wanted an out of the way, off the beaten path place that had all the comforts of home. We got that and more! The home was beautiful, the interior was impeccable…. Think Tommy Bahama decor…. And the outside is incredible! Right on the ocean, beautiful gardens & walking distance to a few restaurants & stores.
We loved our stay at “Neil’s place”. And will be back for sure!!
Reading some reviews prior to our visit made us question…. But you will not be disappointed!! This place is amazing!! There were 3 TV’s but honestly we never even tried to turn one on. It was really nice to have use of the washer & dryer. And to have access to Jenny If we needed anything was wonderful.
Thank you for allowing us the pleasure. Jim & Theresa

Beautiful property with sunrise views.
We loved our stay in Neil's home away from home. Jenny, the property manager a wealth of information about the place. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The sunrises were lovely and pelicans treated us to air shows daily and landscaping just right. Would plan another stay if we are lucky enough to return to Costa Rica.

Below Average for the Price.
The pictures do not reflect the property as it stands today. They were obviously taken many years ago. The House is dark and requires updating. The amenities as listed were not present ie: No television or stereo system etc.
In addition, the closest sandy beach is not within walking distance. The Property Manager was a pleasure to work with however the Property Owner was not.

Rustic house on beautiful setting. No TVs contrary to the listed amenities. No toiletries, no bath soap. Decently equipped kitchen. Jenny the manager was great and the food at her restaurant was exceptional.

Perfect Getaway
This rental was exactly what we were seeking - an on the beach getaway with all the creature comforts of home. The beds were large enough to sleep the whole family, and the checkin-and management was very easy. The photographs in this listing don't do the place justice - it truly is a spectacular area. Seeking to get to the beach and relax for a a while? Look no further. We even missed one night because of snow leaving home, and the owner offered to refund the night we weren't able to utilize. We'll be back for sure.

Wonderful location, wonderfully relaxing
This was perfect for two couples looking for a quiet retreat away from any tourist hubbub. It's close enough for a quick trip to Montezuma, but the small grocery stores and restaurants in Cabuya are quite adequate. It has everything you need to prepare and enjoy meals and the fans and AC were great for cooling things down in the afternoon. The chairs under the shade tree overlooking the beach were perfectly situated and in constant use. Swimming is good at high tide, and on the right day (when the water isn't cloudy) the snorkeling off Cemetery Island is probably good.

Nice house with a lovely garden that extends right up to the ocean. Lots of wildlife to see and hear
Overall, we found the property as advertised: a great place to relax off-of-the beaten path. The house was comfortable for the three of us and probably would be for two couples. Sleeping 6 would require using the sleeper sofa which we did not check out. The house was clean and neat with one bath upstairs and one downstairs. The A/C worked very well as did the WiFi. We used the washer and dryer but you can also line dry clothes if you have the time. The kitchen had everything that we needed but there was no gas grill (contrary to the listing) which changed our cooking plan. Not a great loss as there are some great places to eat in Montezuma for dinner--we just didn't cook dinner at the house as we had originally planned to. The location of the house is right on the beach with the Isle de Cemeterio in view. The beach is rocky but very peaceful. We spent at least 50% of our time sitting in chairs or hammocks reading and enjoying the downtime.
We saw (and heard) numerous howler monkeys as well as a troop of white-faced monkeys during our stay. Lizards and birds are very prevalent in the beautiful green space around the house. We thought that the green space really set the Haciendo Relaxo apart as the green area created both a canopy of shade for us as well as a place for wildlife. The ground level flowers and plants were also very nice with the former attracting hummingbirds.
We had no problem finding groceries in Cabuya which saved us from driving to Montezuma for necessities. Also, the check-in process was simple in that we just dropped by the El Coyote Cafe and met with Jenny and she got us into the house (after we ate a really nice pizza that she made in her kitchen!). Checking out was easy, Jenny accommodated our schedule and came by to pick up the keys when we were ready to leave.
We would definitely stay at Haciendo Relaxo again.

fine place but uncaring owner
We strongly recommend against staying at this house because the owner has demonstrated an inability to support if anything goes wrong. Our family stayed here in the beginning of February. On the third evening of our stay, while we were out to dinner, the house was broken into and my computer stolen. We called the manager and checked the security camera film, where we saw someone climb up the balcony. The cameras were positioned in a way that made it impossible to see the burglar so nothing could be done. The first night of our stay, the manager's nephew yelled at us from the yard late at night trying to sell something. She had warned us to ignore people who approached the house from the beach – including her nephew. It appears that there have been several problems with petty theft, so beware. After the burglary, we decided to leave Cabuya and spend the rest of our vacation somewhere else, leaving several days of our booking unused. We contacted the owner several times but he failed to respond and ask how we were, let alone refund the nights that we didn’t stay in the place. His lack of concern and communication are shocking. The house is directly on the water and a group of howler monkeys comes by every morning and evening, which is great! The manager at least helped us try to find out what happened, but the owner was never heard from at all.

Where the jungle meets the ocean. A great place to experience the best of Costa Rica
Just a few miles on a country road away from the charming little beach town of Montezuma lies a crossroads called Cabuya, and there you will find the sweetest little property sitting right on the ocean with a sunlit jungle canopy above it that you will love almost as much as the monkeys do. At dawn you'll hear surf and roosters and sometimes howler monkeys who will lift even teenagers out of their comfy beds to watch them cross over the canopy above, playing and eating and grooming one another as they go. On another day we saw a large family of white faced monkeys who were much cuter and quieter, with babies on their backs. They would drop down to where our daughters had placed pieces of banana in the low bushes so we could see them up close. There were local fishermen with fresh caught mahi mahi for sale. The town of Montezuma had some great little restaurants. If I could close my eyes and be back there I would do it in a heart beat. Oh and the house was nice too.

Great location and Super Comfortable
This house was amazing! It was in a great location, 10 mins from Montezuma and 15 mins from Malpais. The property was clean, furnished well, and had a great view of the ocean. Every morning I'd sit on an Adirondack chair facing the ocean with my coffee--it was divine. There was also a great hammock that you can lounge in right on the ocean. The patio is also a great feature to watch the sunrise and hang out in the evenings. Jenny (the property manager) was super helpful, spoke English, and helped us out with everything we needed (i.e when is the trash pick up--Saturday.) The washer and dryer came in handy too, especially after lounging at the beach and washing our beach towels. The kitchen was really great--the dining room table is HUGE. I would absolutely recommend this house for any stay--great location and super comfortable!

Amazing Romantic Adventurous Holiday Vacation We Will Never Forget
My husband and I spent 7 nights at this great getaway spot. All of the comforts of home in the most wonderful setting which exceeded our expectations. Another couple, friends joined us for 4 nights, but still had plenty of privacy. Entrance is gated and property is immaculately maintained making it the best in the area. Beach is part of backyard. We spent hours each day and every night sitting where the edge of the property meets the beach listening to the waves, cracking open coconuts, laying in the hammock, enjoying bonfires made by the caretakers, making smores, eating meals by candlelight, and taking in the most amazing view of the moon we have ever seen. This was truly paradise for us and a Christmas holiday vacation we will never forget. When not relaxing, we were partaking in all of the adventures the area has to offer. Jose, the fishing guide who takes care of the place with his wife Flori, offers authentic fishing experiences at affordable prices. I agreed to go with my husband (I'd never been fishing in the ocean and wasn't sure I would like it) and after the first trip couldn't wait to go again. Riding in the boat looking at the scenery was enjoyable in and of itself. We also had fun snorkeling and exploring Cemetery Island. But the fishing was awesome! Jose knows just where to go and provides all the guidance you need to catch big fish. I caught a Wahoo(nearly 5ft), a Mahi Mahi, and a Jack fish. My husband caught 5 beautiful, large Mahi Mahi over 40pds each, a Wahoo, Jack fish, and tuna. We went hiking in Cabo Blanco National Park (within walking distance from house) and spent hours relaxing on the beach there. Took long walks on beach, to the nearby river, and even walked the road to Mal Pais. Cabuya provides a quiet, authentic Costa Rican experience. There are restaurants, two little grocery stores, and an artist shop within a short walking distance. We didn't have a car, didn't need one. Don't miss out on Jenny's Coyote Café (great pizza take-out and breakfast). If have questions about the area, she will have the answers. Our trip was made even more special than it would have been by staying this great house with Jose, Flori, and their kids next door. They were extremely helpful but yet maintained their distance. We felt safe having them there. Flori cooked most of our meals (don't miss out on her pancakes) including the fish we caught. Owner answered all of our questions before we left. Thought house better than pictures depict. Loved it!

Awesome House!
We stayed only a couple days to be away from the touristy areas of Arenal , and Jaco, and had a wonderful stay!
We cooked at the well equipped house and enjoyed the beachfront chairs and fire pit.We went fishing with the on site caretaker and was the only thing we would suggest doing with a tour recommended by Jenny or out of Montezuma, our experience with him was not as pleasant as we had hoped for the convenience of leaving from our beach, and the price we paid ! His gear had some to be desired and was perpetually late ,and with our short time there, required being on time.
The house and the grounds were pure heaven , and as said in other reviews, do not expect a swimmable beach as the tides are extreme and is shallow and rocky beachfront, but none the less very beautiful, expect to drive to other beaches to swim.
The house would be perfect if a little more private, expect to spend your vacation with the caretaker and his wife and 3 kids , although a pleasant family, they appear to derive their sole employment from the renters at the property and are ever present , and complain of their income and expect payment for basic services they offered, tipped him handsomely, and waited many hours for firewood, propane for the grill, etc etc !Made requests at 3 pm and was 8 pm before we got either!
If a privacy fence was erected this would help the owners set up some boundaries, and a more relaxing and private experience would be had by anyone renting here !
Howler monkeys visited, and the landscaping, trees and flowers etc were absolutely gorgeous, and the house was well equipped, a decorated beautifully. The floor plan is a little odd with the only comfortable seating in the living area that is upstairs and shared by the master suite,a wall separating the bedroom would be a plus as we had the main level bedroom and a concrete outdoor table and a wooden bench in the kitchen were the only areas to sit to not intrude on the couple in the upstairs bedroom, so the living area was unusable for us!Pads for all the chairs would also be a plus,as I was actually sore after spending 3 days on wood and concrete seating!A smaller kitchen table and a COUCH downstairs and seat pads for the outdoor furniture (save the loungers that had pads, after we got them the second day from the caretaker who was using them )would be a great investment for the comfort of guests .:-)
Loved the place with a few upgrades 5 star! Will likely get a beachfront motel next visit!

Fabulous Hacienda Relaxo
We are 2 couples who are in the process of planning our third trip back to this house. (which should say it all) What you see in the pictures is exactly what you get. The house feels like home to us, it is very accommodating for 2 couples, has what you need for doing your own cooking etc., The beach is rocky but is no problem with water shoes. We usually spend a couple of hours a day in the extremely warm water when the tide is high. Walk out your door and into the water, life does not get much better than this. At low tide you can walk to cemetary island and swim from there. Jose and his family live net door and take care of the property. The property is kept very clean, well raked, watered etc., You will need to go fishing with Jose and have his wife Flori cook your catch. They are very helpful as is Jenny who is the go to person for the keys etc., Jenny runs the Coyote Cafe and makes really good pizza. She will help you with anything you need - she also goes the extra mile to make sure that all is well. Dealing with Neil the owner is very easy and he is most helpful. We would recommend having a vehicle but there is a bus service to Montezuma. However, we did most of our grocery shopping in Cobano. (don't know about taking a bus there) The bakery in Cabuya is fabulous and there are sodas that serve good food for resonable prices. Howler monkeys visit nearly every day, iguanas bask in the sunny yard where there is plenty of seating and/or lounging for reading, visiting or just plain old relaxing. We would not hesitate to recommend this house to friends or family. We are looking forward to spending a month there next year.

Absolutely Wonderful and Totally Relaxing!
My husband and I and our friends have just spent a wonderful 10 days here at this beautiful, relaxing house! We saw Howler monkeys everyday and white faced monkeys also! The pictures of the location totally due it justice! The house is beautiful inside and the grounds outside are also beautiful and well looked after by Jose and his wife! They were wonderful and cooked us a wonderful lobster supper one evening and fish another!
Just a note that the beach front is beautiful, but not so much a sandy beach for swimming, but there are lots to be found! It is wonderful for walking but be sure to bring your water shoes!
Jenny who manages everything for you when you arrive was absolutely wonderful also. She made you feel like part of her family with her wonderful smiling and cheerful attitude. The house is located in Cabuya, a very small town but the restaurants are wonderful. Jenny's restaurant - Cafe Coyote has absolutely amazing food! Jenny also will help you to arrange anything you need during your stay such as getting a rental car, or renting a quad to arranging for day trips or horseback riding, she will arrange all for you. This is very helpful if you do not know alot of spanish!
We also ate at the Cabuya Bakery and Cafe! This is a must also if you are in Cabuya, the food is excellent and the desserts are just amazing!
We did day trips over to Montezuma and also to Malpais. The surfing if you like to surf is wonderful in Malpais and they also have a wonderful restaurant called The Bakery! But life is busier in these two locations, so it was always wonderful to come back to Cabuya at the end of the day as it is so quiet and relaxing and all the people are very friendly and helpful. You will want to rent a car so that you can get around to the different locations, but be prepared for the bumps! But the sights while travelling are just beautiful! You totally get a real feel for Costa Rican life when staying in Cabuya. We walked around town the entire week and you feel totally at ease and safe!
We also did horseback riding with Marvin - El Pinto Expeditions. He was wonderful and his horses are great and well looked after, definately a must!
We would definatly recommend this beautiful house as it is totally an amazing place to stay and RELAX! We will definately be returning!!!
Thanks so much for allowing us to enjoy your beautiful piece of Heaven!

Ten days in paradise
This morning my husband and I and another couple arrived home after spending 10 days in beautiful Cabuya, Costa Rica.
All four of us have travelled to all-inclusive resorts before and were not sure what to expect from a rental home.
We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the house and it was exactly like the pictures online and very clean and well appointed.
Jenny the property manager was so helpful from the first moment we met her and continued to be for our entire vacation. She made us feel like part of her Costa Rican family. We visited her cafe de coyota many times for smoothies and supper. The morning we left she made us a wonderful breakfast before her husband transported us to the airport.
Jose the groundskeeper was also great to us. When the air conditioner quit upstairs he immediately came over and fixed it. He also cooked lobster and fish for us that he caught in the ocean.
Cabuya is a quiet little town where you can become part of the Costa Rican lifestyle very quickly. For half of our stay the monkeys visited us twice a day and of course the two little dogs becames our "pups" for the entire vacation.
If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation this is the place to go. You will not be disappointed.

Wonderful Vacation Retreat!
What a fabulous location and house. We had such a great time! Definitely needed a 4-wheel drive to get around though. Jenny, the property manager, was so helpful and fun! Jose and his family were welcoming and always available to make our stay go smoothly. We love this place!

Would Rent This House Again
We spent a month in this house last summer and the house was perfect for us. We are a family of four with two young kids, and stayed in Cabuya on a working vacation. The air-con in both bedrooms worked well, the beds were comfortable, and the kitchen was modern and well stocked with all the tools we needed to cook regularly. The living room is upstairs as part of the master suite, and it was very comfortable. We loved the views from the upstairs deck and the wi-fi worked great out there. The property manager was on top of everything, and the few times that we needed minor maintenance, she was on it. She even hired a new nanny for us when the original nanny she had arranged fell through (through no fault of hers) just before we arrived. We loved watching the monkeys swinging through our garden, top count was about 40. My kids enjoyed playing in the nearby river, and we often used the pool at the Celaje Hotel after dining there. We felt very safe, even when hubby was gone for a week on a business trip.
A few things to know:
1) Cabuya is a VERY small town. It got a little quiet for us over a month, and we made fairly frequent trips to Montezuma to go out to dinner, where there are some world-class restaurants.
2) There wasn't a playground in town for our young kids to play in.
3) The roads are completely unpaved in much of the southern Nicoya Peninsula, and you need a 4-wheel drive in the summer. The roads got progressively worse during the rainy season. Although Cabuya is only 7km from Montezuma, the trip takes about 25 minutes each way, and that's only when you start to dodge the potholes really well.
4) We had to evict small and medium sized crabs from the house on a daily basis. We also had regular ants in the kitchen. This is just part of living in the area, not a negative on the house.
5) In the summer there are amazing electrical storms in the early evenings, though not as frequently as expected. When the storms are bad the local authorities take down the power grid to protect it, so a few times we had no power for 1-2 hours, which was mostly fun and adventurous. The house is equipped with flashlights and small battery-powered lamps. If it happens during dinner time, the electric stove and microwave will be useless, but there is a grill right out front.
6) The beach is very rocky and has pretty extreme tides. It was not as big a hit with our kids as we had hoped, but they loved the outdoor shower.
We were so sad to leave our "summer home"!

A trip of a lifetime!
16 days went by way too fast! I love this little house! Home away from home. Great location on the beach and in the jungle! Our neighbors and caretakers of the land Jose, Flori, and Gustavo were amazing! They took us fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, to waterfalls, to explore the surrounding towns, and had bonfires on the beach almost every night. Little Carlos and Melissa taught us a little Spanish. I wish we were there again with our new friends that we miss so much! It was nice to be away from the constant craziness of Montezuma's tourist trap. Jim next door at the Howler Monkey Hotel let us rent his ATV's at a great price where Montezuma's ATV rentals were a rip off! We also got ripped off by Montezuma Expeditions for $200 for a supposed "round-trip tour" with fruit and refreshments of Arenal but they failed to mention until we got there that it was a one way drop off in Arenal and we would have to find our own tour, accommodation, food, and would have to pay another $200 just to get back. The owner of the business was rude and refused to refund any of our money with this misunderstanding. They are so corrupt, the website won't even let you leave a review. So we went through a local we trusted Gustavo. Great tour guide and friend to be trusted. Jose, Flori, and Gustavo did a wonderful job and made us feel right at home. Will definitely go back!
