Our stay was incredible staying at this very old wine yard in the middle of the Douro Valley so authentic. This is not a hotel this is an old family house where you are invited and treated as you are a part of the family!

incredibly sweet hosts who are extremely generous with their time and explanations about the amazing house they have lived on for the last 6 generations - the house itself is full of charm

We arranged to have the private meal on the day we arrived which was wonderful. We were served a 5 course meal on the terrace overlooking the Douro River and the town across the river. The host was very gracious and helpful.
The bathroom was located up 6 steps above the room which made it a little challenging in the night.

I liked walking through the grounds and gardens of the villa. The room was nice and cool. It was spacious. The breakfast was in a lovely dining room. The villa was a short walk to the restaurants of Ragua. We had a good view from the room but we paid for a river facing room, they may not all have good views.
There was no access to tea or coffee during the day, no facilities in the room. The tea at breakfast was undrinkable. Luckily we had our own T bags. The Bathroom in the room was OK but very small and not really of the standard I would expect for the price.

The view from our room and from the common areas, overlooking the river and town are great! It is a very historical property and has many antiques. The wines made by the owner were excellent with dinner.
It was a bit loud with road noises, which surprised us since it wasn't located in town. We had to keep the window open at night to stay cool, and that made it a bit loud. We did opt for dinner though pricey, described as a 4 course meal. While the quality of the meal was nice (very authentic and served in a very traditional style), it was over-priced.

The location and property are fabulous if one looks for something special. This old mansion and vineyard has a very special atmosphere and together with the exceptionally friendly and helpful staff and owners we had a very enjoyable time there. The dinner which we had one evening on the terass was excellent, with many servings, superb service and extraordinary wines. The breakfast in the old dining room is a special treat, with home made bread, cakes, the best orange juice ever and good coffee. We especially appreciated that vegetables, fruits and berries provided at dinner and breakfast came from the mansion's garden, or from local producers. We came by train and with taxis lining up outside the station we reached the mansion by a 5 min taxi ride. We could easily reach other parts of Douro region by train, boat, taxi and also enjoyed walks in the property and longer walks to neighboring vineyards, several which have guided wine tours. The tips and help from the owners were invaluable in finding ways to get aorund without a car, and they also made an extra effort to find a solution when we wanted to stay en extra night.

Loved the oldness and how the house was furnished with style appropriate furniture and art. Breakfast was very good. The staff carried our luggage up and down the stairs. Bathroom is quite small.
Sheets did not fit the bed ie too small. The welcome wine pour was very small ie 2 sips.

We didn’t end up staying because the room we booked (we specifically booked the room to have a river view balcony) was given to someone else.
We didn’t end up staying because the room we booked (we specifically booked the room to have a river view balcony) was given to someone else. It was for a medical reason, so it was understandable, but being a special trip for us to Portugal, we wanted a river view while staying in the Douro valley. We were offered a different room, but it wasn’t anything like the one we had specifically chosen (at the back of the property. We were told that we would be refunded if we wanted to book elsewhere, but now they are telling us they won’t refund the whole amount.

The staff, Anoo and Sapana, 2 Nepalese girls, were sweet and unfailingly helpful. The hotel and our room overlooked the Douro river. The grounds were extensive with many patios that viewed the river. This is a working winery.
Access to the main house requires a climb up a steep , long set of stairs. For those with disabilities and some elderly this may present a challange.

The property is owned by the sixth generation. The owner and his wife were very hospitable and welcomed us into their lovely old home. The property is situated on a vineyard and grows and bottles really great wine especially the rose'.
The breakfast was in the garden and of excellent quality. The house overlooks the Douro river and an easy walk across the bridge to the town .A great place to take a drive up the douro river from. We would highly recommend this property
There was nothing we didn't like

The staff was friendly.
The property and the room was dated. The bathroom was small and dark.

The young lady working there did everything possible and the breakfast was good.
So many things! To start with the pictures do not represent the property accurately and the rate is excessive when compared to all other properties we stayed at. The grounds are not well kept. it was over 100F and there was no air conditioning. They served dinner outside when it was over 90F.

Quirky, very traditional Portuguese experience, real insight into history of the property and family

The staff was very accommodating, the wine was fantastic, the surrounding country is beautiful. They messaged us in advance about dietary requirements and dinning preferences. It was a lovely place to relax, do a little hiking, and enjoy some fantastic food.
The coffee from the percolator was a bit weak and they need more staff. You should go stay there and give them money so they can hire more staff (they're doing too much right now with too few).

Friendly staff. Nice garden.
Directly on the street. Very noisy. Bathroom is a joke. So small that you can move, I am slim!!!!! No television. The price is way too high, for no service. Breakfast is in the garden, nothing great.

Amazing place with an attentive staff that makes you feel home. The house is beautiful with an amazing view of Douro. Breakfast was served in a sumptuous room with local products. Every thing was perfect!
Not sure if a negative but just part of the deal- it’s a old house and of course you can hear steps and talks, I didn’t mind but it’s the only thing that I can mention as “negative “

Great host, place, personnel and breakfast. The house is located very close to winerys with great view. The welcoming porto wine ıs a must taste 😍 this is one of the best Porto wine we have Tasted during our stay. They are not serving as restaurant but you can kindly ask for them to cook for you. Trust me you will eat the best food together with a suprise dish from the host and best wine. We felt at Home and will definitely come again. Thank you for everything.

Tina and João are extremely kind hosts willing to make us feel very comfortable in an atmosphere from another era, a bit like in a fairy tale. A very nice and comfortable room overlooking the Douro River and a fantastic garden with fruit trees and a huge variety of old trees. Tivemos um momento maravilhoso!!

right in front of the town of Peso da Regua, it is a charming manor, with the grapeyards in the back, very good if you want to taste the feeling of sleeping and dining in history. Very kind staff and owner.

Located pleasently near the Douro River bank, the House was a great place for us to rest and travel around the neigbourhood. Our hosts and staff made the stay exceptional - we always felt taken care of, had really good breakfast and enjoyed wine tastings and multiple conversations.
There is plenty of space in a lovely garden as well as on the terrace in front of the house so one can enjoy the river view in the evening while having a wine made by our hosts.
If you're into having a less standard experience and stay in a House from XVIII century, this might be a place for you :)

Casa Dos Varias was such a wonderful, unique place to stay! The owners and the staff went out of their way to ensure our comfort. Each morning a delicious breakfast was served in the garden featuring homemade jams and yogurt as well as tasty breads, cakes, cookies and fruit grown on the Estate. On our last night, we were able to have a spectacular dinner catered for us and served on the terrace overlooking the Douro River. We were served several courses paired with wines from the Manor's vineyards. One of our favorite treats was the complimentary glass of port/tonic served by the cool, refreshing foot pond. We felt like we had stepped back in time to an era filled with grace and elegance. Hopefully' we will be able to return in the future! Thanks to the entire household for making it such a memorable stay.

The owners and staff were wonderful! A lovely relaxing stay in the heart of the Douro valley. We booked a suite which was old world charm. Breakfast was sumptuous with home made produce. Special shout out to Anu who went above and beyond to help. Love the place. Thanks so much. Highly recommend!

nice and old house with a rustic feel, good view on Regua and Douro river, the owners are really helpful and welcoming and gave a lot of info;
the staff could use some upgrade as well as training - could be due to covid period that trained/experienced people are hard to find; I would do some refurbishing of the outside porch (change chairs and tables) and electricity cables in the room to improve safety. One cannot expect all the same conveniences as in modern hotels or apartments so longer-term stay would be a bit problematic (tiny bathroom, no TV, etc.)

The breakfast room and house could be a scene of the crown, a true experience. The owners are very helpful and honest.
The smell of the toilet was unpleasant
