A lovely well presented B&B in a wonderful location, our hosts were lovely and welcoming, breakfast was really nice with some lovely touches ie home made jams and marmalade. Our room was very clean and tidy and very well presented again with some lovely touches just to make our stay extra special. We would highly recommend Ellen House B&B

Fantastic hosts with the perfect amount of welcoming spirit.. They had a wealth of knowledge of the surrounding areas and really made our stay with them comfortable. The room was immaculately clean and the breakfast was extremely tasty. We will definitely return and refer family and friends.

Everything. It was excellent and surpassed all our expectations. Anne and John were perfect hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. The room and facilities were spotless. The breakfast was first class and so much choice too. A particular mention for the superb South African breakfast that I tried - it was wonderful. They were both very knowledgeable about the local area which helped us plan our time too.

Had a 2 night stay at Ellen's B&B. Room was clean and spacious, bed was comfy and I liked the fact that they had elements of their south African heritage around the room / house. Breakfast was included in our stay, which included fruit / yoghurt / toast as well as a fry up. Overall the best breakfast we have had at any B&B to date. Property is situated within a short distance to Matlock centre, but also walking distance to Matlock Bath, Mam Tor, Abraham Heights etc. We will definitely return in the Spring/Summer. Thank you Anne and John for a lovely stay at your home.

Lovely friendly welcome, very clean and tidy. Lots of little extra touches that made the perfect stay. Breakfast was fantastic!! John and Anne were happy to suggest nice places to visit in the area. A really lovely weekend break, made all the nicer staying at Ellen House.

What an amazing b & b Ellen house at Matlock is. John and Anne, the owners, have a wonderful friendly attitude towards their guests. They take time to get to know you and you’re left with a feeling that you’re part of the family. The rooms are lovely, very bright and airy and the little extras are second to none. John cooks beautiful breakfasts with an amazing choice which sets you up for the day. We really enjoyed chatting about their lives in South Africa with some really amusing anecdotes. Where to start! John and Anne were lovely - so friendly and we instantly felt welcome. The breakfast was fabulous and there was everything you could possibly want available (fresh fruit, yogurts, granola and their famous cooked breakfast), all of which was unbelievably delicious. The room had such lovely décor, was clean and comfortable and, to top it off, nice and quiet. I would 100% stay here again!

The location was excellent very central. The breakfast was superb. Homemade jams and marmalade, stilton mushrooms, bacon sausages all very high quality. The hosts Anne and John were lovely and made us feel very welcome.

The bed could have been a little comfy for me though my grandson slept like a log. Didnt need all the cushions on the bed as didn't use them and not much room to store them

The room was spacious with plenty of storage, The king size bed was comfy and they did offer an exchange for the feather pillows. It was nice to be able to use the garden to relax. plenty of tea and coffee provided in the room and loved the tasty homemade flapjack which was a bonus. The breakfast was fantastic with fresh fruit and homemade jam and marmalade, The cooked breakfast was very well done and seasoned, It set you up very well for the day ahead. The hosts...Anne and john were great!!, they were so lovely and funny with a lot of stories to tell which were very interesting. The parking was very easy and safe opposite Ellen House as you were given a permit to park. The location was excellent for the town and amenities. Can not Fault it.
