Great view on the ocean- kind staff

Ceiling of the room was not100% closed, so we had things dropping like warms or birds stuff that was a bit not comforting - we had one of the staff entering our room while were were there with no permission that was a bit scary for a moment

The staff were all amazing in particular Thejani who looked after us so well and was wonderful with our children. She did everything she could to make our stay perfect. Also Nawan and the rest of the pool team who were amazing, knowledgable and warm and friendly. They showed us the turtles in the sea and watched over the children when they played on the beach. The rooms and food were excellent, clean and calm and the property and spa is beautiful and very peaceful.

There is nothing negative to say everything was excellent and we were treated so well during our stay. We really recommend this place.

The best EVER!! My only regret is that I only stayed 3 nights! I loved this place from the moment I arrived until I left!! I wish I could bottle this place and take it with me!!

Spa - Jacuzzi & Sauna

Amazing hotel in an amazing location. We travelled as a family with a 6mth old baby and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Bottles and baby cutlery etc washed every day and our baby was treated like royalty! The food is very good and very good value. We went half board which is recommended. The set menu in the evenings is good but may be a tad repetitive if staying more than 4/5 days or if you don't like fish or curry!! A special mention to Thejani in the restaurant, she was simply fantastic, helpful and made us feel so welcome, likewise with Samantha. Chamindi and the team at reception were always so helpful and welcoming.

Nothing to complain of

location - right in the beach, close enough to Galle by tuktuk. Rooms are huge, we upgraded to sea view which was stunning- over looked the gardens and palm trees directly to sea. , facilities- pool is great, Sun loungers very comfortable and pool staff super lovely. All the staff were so kind and helpful. The overall space of the hotel is lovely, restaurant overlooking the sea.

You can’t surf on the beach by the hotel.

We had another fantastic stay at the Fortress. The Hotel location is perfect, and staff were tremendous, attentive and friendly. This is one of our favourite hotels on the south coast. we will be back for sure.

Perfect location on the beach and provides more of a true hotel environment compared to other ‘boutique’ hotels in the area. Some parts a a little tired around the edges.

Everything was perfect

- Lovely beach, great to see turtles - good, long swimming pool - helpful staff - very spacious rooms (particularly the garden rooms) - great to help staff releasing baby turtles into the sea

- food could be better and more inventive; also came out lukewarm sometimes - should have more focus on Sri Lankan cuisine - most of the wines were off and had to be given back - facilities need a bit of a polish - they could offer activities in the hotel (giant chess set, volleyball, balls, croquet etc)

The location and the pool area of The Fortress were outstanding. Breakfast and dinner were good. The staff were attentive.

We didn't have a Seaview but a very large king with a view of a wall. We knew this was the case but we thought that the room was a little dated and the design wasn't the best.

We had a great stay at The Fortress. The hotel is beautiful, clean rooms, lovely restaurant and great swimming pool looking out over the ocean. Location is great, a short Tuk Tuk ride to Welligama or Unawatuna.

Nothing, everything was great!

Amazing beachfront hotel. I spent first few days just laying on a sunbed under the shafod of beautiful trees watching the waves...best meditation ever. There is a great place to swim in the ocean next to the hotel, you can swim safely with kids and there was this guy from hotel staff who was very nice, he gave us snorkelling equippment and showed us small fish playing around rocks. hotel's swimmingpool is also amazing, my kids enjoyed it so much!

A bit overpriced when comparing hotel prices in Sri Lanka and I did not like the fact that I had to pay the whole amount in advance.
