I visited the 1885 with my partner for a friend's wedding in the summer. Having traveled from Berlin in the early morning we were very tired and the manager and bartender both made us feel so at home. He showed us to our lovely room right away, and gave us privacy, and all the essential details. We had mentioned we were hungry and he offered us a menu as soon as we came downstairs after a short nap and a shower. The food was excellent, a terrific steak from locally reared animals and a beautiful fillet of fish – just terrific. My partner had never visited Yorkshire before and I was excited to show her around my region, having spent a long time speaking of the friendly nature and hospitality of my home, I couldn't have been happier with the respectful, friendly, down-to-earth nature of everyone working at the 1885. What a delight, and exceptionally comfy rooms, at a crazy affordable price. If you're staying anywhere in the calder valley I would wholeheartedly recommend the 1885. P.S. great beer and an excellent all inclusive breakfast too

The breakfast room is very hot, this is because the room is not very big and it has an open kitchen. My bacon was dry, looked like it had been precooked and reheated, couldn't eat it.

We loved it here! As soon as we arrived, the staff were kind, friendly and accommodating. They showed us to our perfect room and let us know everything we needed to know. The room was super clean and the bed was so comfortable! The decor was modern but with cottage characteristics. The breakfast was included and absolutely delicious. We loved it and we were very sorry to only be staying the one night! We will be back!

Extremely friendly welcome and brilliant commitment to customer service - arrranged a taxi for us and recommended paces to eat/drink since we were leaving the area for the evening and more than helpful throughout our stay. Very nice breakfast with local produce - rooms well appointed and very clean.

Lovely room with private en suite and shower room. Tea and coffee facilities and hair dryer provided. Full English breakfast too with lovely coffee and toast. Highly recommended. Excellent value for money.

It is a bit remote and the roads are very bendy but lovely scenery for walkers.

The food in the bar was outstanding and the staff were so attentive especially Elle she really doesnt stop. We joined for the quiz in the bar and the locals were so friendly and it was such good fun. The room was fresh and spotlessly clean and the bed was so comfortable we especially liked the quality of the toiletries. The breakfast was amazing and so much choice the quality was fantastic. We were upgraded to a bigger room which was lovely.

The room was very hot, we opened the windows but there was lots of road noise. A fan in the room would have made our stay 10 out of 10.

Venue location grest for us to meet up half way with friends. Cleanliness of rooms , spacious and comfortable bed. Staff super friendly and gave us a great welcome. Lunch , evening meal lovely as was the breakfast.

Outdoor area pleasant but bench style seating so uncomfortable and deterred us from spending the afternoon outside which was a shame.

Firstly, the staff couldn't have been more helpful or friendly, they really made the stay. The rooms are an excellent size and very comfortable. Also, the breakfast was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend 1885, we will stay again.

Very good location as only 5 minutes from the wedding I was attending. They let me pick up the key before check in time so I could arrive late after the wedding and go straight to my room. Breakfast was quick and tasted great. The little touches like the shower gel and the drinks selection was a great touch

My bed sheet had. A crusty mark on it just further down the bed from the pillows so was very obvious. There was a welcome book but it didn't say when breakfast was served to so got ready quickly in the morning, would've been nice to know I was ok taking my time.

Staff were absolutely fabulous. good choice of beers. Food was wonderful and beautifully presented. will definitely be returning. Can’t recommend this place to highly 👍🤗

I asked specifically if a gluten free breakfast was available but was disappointed that the gluten free option was to simply not eat anything containing gluten. I couldn't eat the sausages, black pudding or toast. The venue did nothing to cater for coeliacs despite assuring my they would provide a gluten free breakfast. The venue could improve by using gf sausages and black pudding and providing a toaster specifically for gf bread to avoid cross contamination.
