there is no WiFi at the house but the owner was kind enough to let us use a room at his property only a couple minutes walk away to plan our future travels.

Oksana and Ernesto were generous hosts! The accomodation is quite basic but in an idyllic location - if you are comfortable in a refuge/bothy you will be at home here. I would recommend messaging them in advance if you are arriving in a car. We got away with a 2WD rental car in February, but 4WD is better to pass through the small-ish stream. The entrance has a chain across. Ernesto gave us recommendations for a path up towards the Chimborazo refuge, and even walked us to the beginning of the trail so we didn't get lost.

The valley has no mobile signal at all (at least on the Claro network), so if like us you are driving and get close but can't quite work out how to get to the house, it isn't possible to get in touch with the hosts. We were given wrong directions by some locals which didn't help!
