The Austin Street Retreat is an authentic historic home built by European settlers well over a century ago. Restored and embellished through the decades with modern amenities, there are now five unique suites. Located one block off Main Street in Fredericksburg's National Historic District, this premier property is an authentic Texas treasure built of stone, timber and stucco. It is situated on a large double lot shaded by old growth pecan trees and perennials from the LBJ Ranch. Each suite features elegant, charming decor along with a private terrace.

Popular for Hill Country wine tours, family and friend reunions, special occasions and celebrations, the Retreat can sleep a total of twelve people.

MARIA'S SUITE
It all began in 1867 when immigrants John and Maria Walter built a log cabin structure and began their new life in Texas. The heritage of these pioneers is preserved here with eighteen inch thick walls, original paint on the ceiling, wood floors and wavy glass in the windows. Added later as the family grew and prospered was a limestone room. Both rooms are now bedrooms each with a Queen size bed. In addition, there is a dressing room, powder room enclosed space with a jetted tub and handheld shower and a sitting room with a flat screen TV, DVD and Time Warner cable. The lovely private terrace has an outdoor table and chairs shaded by a pecan tree which is the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or evening wine.

The suite does allow one dog but we ask that is is 20 lbs or less. Furthermore, there is an additional pet fee. Please bring a crate for your dog and crate him or her in your absence from the house, do not allow the dog on furniture or beds, and pick up and properly dispose of their waste. If these rules are not followed, there will be an additional $200 charge added to your reservation.

The suite uses Brooklinen sheets and towels and Helix mattresses.

House Rules as Required by the City of Fredericksburg's Short Term Rental Ordinance
- Observe the City of Fredericksburg Quiet Hours (10pm to 7am in residential zones). No music of any kind after 10 pm.
- The City of Fredericksburg is a Dark Sky Community with outdoor lighting restrictions. All outdoor lighting is encouraged to be turned off when no one is present to use the light.
- Observe the designated on-site and off-site parking spaces.
- Place all trash in designated containers.

The place was great! So, cute and so much old-world charm. I only have a couple of complaints. Firstly, the tub is kind of dangerous for your older, not so thin, customers. Not everyone likes taking a bath and prefer a shower. The shower head barely reached my head to rinse my hair, so I sat down to rinse my hair, and then had a really hard time getting back up safely. Secondly, when I went to use some of the dishes, specifically a plate and cup, they had dust on them as if they'd not been cleaned in a while, let alone for each different guest. But I'd still certainly return again, because the good far outweighed the bad. Marilyn

The B&B is very rustic which we expected. However, the toilet did not flush very well, bathroom had roaches and the tub was not cleaned very well. Although the location was nice we would have expected more for the price

"Maria" had more than enough space for up to 4 people. The decor was terrific- very authentic. The AC, in contrast, was modern- absolutely silent, a real pleasure. It's located on a quiet road, but still close enough to the main drag that its quite walkable.

The light switch in bedroom next to bathroom not working and the sink next to microwave has a large crack in it ...other than that everything was perfect..great place to stay !!!!!!!!! We will stay there again........ thank you

Wonderful little house so close to Main Street! Loved the log cabin charm. Very dog friendly too! Would have liked a little better explanation of the different residences as we bothered the nite people for a key bc didn't recognize the suite names.

Very quaint property and clean. The pros were that is was private and comfortable. The cons were that the street was very loud from traffic and the key was very difficult to unlock the door. The 2 porch lights were out which made it even more difficult to enter. I accidently left something there and of course it wasn't found by housekeeping. I won't stay there again.

Take a break and enjoy a step back in the Maria Cabin with all the added details! From the front porch swing, special tasting coffee, makeup hand towels and a rubber duck for the jetted tub to the out door quaintness of the table and chairs to enjoy a glass of wine! The location is just perfect being one block off of the main drag. Thank you for your hospitality always as I will return!

When we arrived at Austin Street Retreat Maria, it was about 5:30pm. We had spent several hours enjoying the Nimitz Museum and were looking forward to relaxing before going out to dinner. That did not happen because we opened the door to see two unmade beds and dirty dishes by the sink. After I called about the situation, two people came to clean, which meant we had no opportunity to relax and had less time to enjoy the the cottage we had paid for. So we went straight to dinner while they were still cleaning. I was hoping to be comped for the lost time and inconvenience, but that didn't happen. The next day, we physically returned the keys to the same woman who had come to clean the previous evening. We were 15 minutes late in returning the key (because we had to wait longer for the breakfast order than expected). It never occurred to me that we would be charged for a late key return because it was just a few minutes late and also because we had been disappointed and inconvenienced by the dirty condition of the property. The late charge (only $5) was the final straw for me, so I spoke to someone at the office explaining very nicely that I was hoping to have at least the late key charge refunded. That person transferred me to the business manager whose voice mail I got. I explained again the situation. I waited a full week, and nothing happened. So I called again, explained the situation again, and was told that the manager would get my message. Another week has passed, and no one has had the professional courtesy to return my calls. I'm writing this review to express my disappointment in poor customer service and lack of professionalism.

Cute, rustic cottage but kind of awkward. Front entrance is directly into bedroom. Bathtub is difficult to get into - no shower. Living area is very small. Place looks bigger in the pictures. Unable to raise window shade or turn on ceiling lights in one bedroom. The only storage area in the same bedroom is used for cleaning items. Beds were very comfortable and decor is quaint. We had great weather so sitting on the back patio was pleasant but could have used an umbrella.

The property looked much nicer on the internet. We did have one real issue the beds in both rooms were to high for us so we had to go buy a step stool to be able to get in bed. My sister and I are both 5 feet tall.

The location of the house is fantastic, your literally close to everything. However, the front exterior door didn’t inspire great feeling of security. It won’t stay closed unless deadbolted, there’s literally 3 locks on the door and I’m still pretty confident someone could easily kick it off it’s hinges without great effort. There’s also no shower. While the Jacuzzi tub was beautiful, it really isn’t conducive for quickly getting ready. No dishwasher or stove either. The furnishings were nice though and it has a darling little courtyard. The historical vibe was also really cool. All in all a little pricey for what you get but you seriously can’t beat the location

We had a great visit with our son and daughter-in-law at the cottage and especially enjoyed chatting out on the porch in the swing and rocking chairs. Wonderful, cozy, clean, homey cottage.
