About this lodge

Elegant, country escape overlooking the Shenandoah Valley in the Blue Ridge Mountains of VA. Sun Dancer is just off Route 231, one of America's ten most outstanding scenic byways (Great for experienced bikers). Our 60 private acres backs up to the Shenandoah National Park & Old Rag Mt., which offers many scenic hiking trails and activities.

View the wildlife or the spectacular star-studded sky. Watch the moon rise or take a drive on Skyline Drive. We have a stocked pond for catch & release & there's trout fishing at Graves Mt. Lodge right down the road. Pop some popcorn in our theater sized electric popper & watch your favorite movie on our 65" HDTV screen.

The main level is simply glorious with a view that is breathtaking. We have a large stone fireplace built from rocks on our land, and a 16 person dining room. The kitchen is open to the space and ready for a family gathering. We also have a 52 inch TV, as well as newly acquired Internet and Wi-Fi capabilities. Around the back of the kitchen is a beautiful and serene screened in porch with an outdoor chimenea for s'mores or grilling! Take along your choice drink from the downstairs bar & play a game of shuffleboard on our 9' table, some checkers/chess, or a serious game of foosball or cornhole. Pack a picnic and explore our 60 acre land!

Visit the many wineries, Luray caverns, historic Monticello & Montpelier, Charlottesville, civil war sites, golf, horseback ride, antique shops, art galleries. Massanutten provides all season activities - skiing, go carts, golf, bowling, and an indoor water park. Try fishing in our catch & release pond - bring a picnic and enjoy the view.

A massage therapist will come to the lodge for your spa needs. There are many organic farms and farmer's markets nearby. Pasture fed beef can be found at Rider's Backfield farm just around the corner. There are many scheduled events, festivals, & activities throughout the year. Sixteen family members ranging from age two to sixty-eight all enjoyed this home. It's large with three levels (not handicapped accessible except the bottom floor) and a lovely cabin style inside. It has been well loved by the owner's family and has many travel mementos and trophies inside. This gives it a lot of character. It's so large, it's hard to keep everything spotless and dust free, but the bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen were all clean. The A/C went out while we were there, but the manager had someone come out and it was repaired as soon as possible. It's near the National Park, and we enjoyed several other activities suggested by the host. There aren't a lot of restaurants in the immediate vicinity, but the nearby wineries and brewhouse offer simple meals, and larger restaurants are only about fifteen to twenty minutes away.

The property is beautiful. The house is like stepping into a museum with very unique decor. The kids loved the game room and fishing in the pond. The kitchen is well stocked with everything for cooking meals. My only complaint was a lack of linens for the bunkroom and flat pillows in almost every bedroom. I called the host but only heard a busy signal. You cannot call anyone on your cells from the house, no service, had to use the house phone to try to reach her. Fortunately for us a daughter was arriving the next day and brought us linens. We were a family of 16 but 2 of the kids slept on air mattresses which we brought because the bunkroom had 4 boys aged 12 to 15 who could not share double mattresses with their girl cousins. There is a futon downstairs which came in handy. Firepit was perfect for s'mores and the air conditioning worked great. Bathrooms were spotless and well stocked with toilet paper. Very unique also! We had a wonderful time!

Had a wonderful time. The house is very eclectic, rustic, and visually applealing. Love the set up and all the bathrooms. There was evidence of it not being as clean as it could have been, and the stove top did not work well. But, overall, it was a great weekend and beautiful place to stay in the mountains.

We celebrated our 50th weddng anniversary with our family. Ages from 4 to 92. We enjoyed the view (would be better without the 2 trees!), the fishing, the woods. We found a swimming hold in the Shenandoah Nat'l Park not far from the house and we all enjoyed it.
