We had a blast on this property. The size was perfect for our large family and convenient to family who live in the area. Beautiful farm, lovely old home, fresh eggs every morning was a bonus, and we ate every one of them. We like antiques, so much of the furniture felt "home-y"! The bathrooms and sunken living room looked as if they had been used quite a bit this season, so we just cleaned anything we couldn't live with.
Suggestions: Things looked a bit tired (again, this could be just because of the season end). The vacuum cleaner needs replacing and the washing machine sounds like a jet taking off; bathrooms need toilet brushes; doors need wiping down between visits and we recommend new pillows and linens for all the beds. The downstairs bed (beautiful as it is) sounds as if the mattress might fall right through.
We would be thrilled to stay here again!

10.0 / 10.0
My family of 11 had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay. There was plenty of room everywhere for all of us. Whether it was eating, sleeping, playing games or watching a movie, we weren’t crowded. We spent most of our time in the pool during the day. We visited and brushed the animals and they enjoyed us as well. Quick responses to any issue which were minimal. We hope to book again if the new owners will keep the property as a rental. This was our second time at this property and we absolutely loved it!!

There were 11 of us: grandparents, parents, and kids ages 5-10. The farm is beautiful, spacious, and relaxing. The pool is incredible with a large shallow section and plenty of pool toys, lounge chairs, and umbrellas for shade. Even though our stay was during a hot week, it cooled off enough late in the day to use the hot tub. Even with 11 people, we had a lot of room to spread out for some alone time, and enough seating in common areas to be comfortable together. We found everything we needed in the kitchen and put the large grill to good use also. The screen porch is huge and got a lot of use. On top of all that, we watched the sun set over the mountains from the front of the house every night, and somehow no mosquitoes found me! We hope to return!

The setting is absolutely beautiful, and the spacious home accommodated our family very well! Our kids loved the pool and collecting the eggs in the barn. We loved watching the sun set over the Blue Mountain!
We'd love to come back!

I host wellness retreats for women, and I spend hours and hours trying to find the right house. I’m so grateful that I found this place! This last day was probably my fifth or six day here. It never disappoints. Beth is one of the best House I’ve ever worked with. She’s so responsive and wants everything to be to your liking. And I very rarely have to ask her for anything. The grounds are gorgeous. The house is clean and big enough for groups to find their own little nooks or gather together. it really is just breathtaking place to be. Oh, and the people I bring to do the cooking absolutely love the kitchen!

Four families spent a weekend at this wonderful farm. We had such a fantastic time. We had kids 7 through 16 and adults above age 40. The 40 year olds love the wineries, the hot tub, the space, cooking in the kitchen - and the kids also love the hod top, the Foos ball, chess, running around outside. We had a boys room (with the bunk beds), and a girls room (with the pull out sofa) and separate rooms for adults. There was enough space for all of us. There were even lovely places for us to sit in a porch and read a book by ourselves. The things that we loved most about this farm were the ANIMALS. We found so many eggs - thank you chickens! And I personally fell in love with the goats. The little donkeys were also lovely. They seemed so excited to see us and so ready to be pet and loved. It was hard to say goodby to them. My kids told them we would be back!

Absolutely wonderful farm house and property! Great location for visiting the many wineries in the area. We loved the animals, the open land, and the sunset views. Collecting chicken eggs every morning was a fun little perk.

This is our second time staying at this property, and we loved it all over again. The views of the mountains are beautiful, and we really enjoy getting to spend time with the animals. There are several fun places nearby (we're members at Early Mountain Vineyards and highly recommend their wine and food), but it's also a treat to spend time in such a well preserved and appointed farm home. It was cold, so we also made good use of the hot tub. Thank you for having us!

We booked to stay for my daughter’s wedding that was at Early Mountain Vineyard in Madison VA. We had a large group of 15 and had plenty of room. The house and grounds were as beautiful in person as they are in the pictures. My grandson loved “adventures” around the property especially when he visited the animals. The trees and landscape were perfect. I can’t say enough good things about our visit and the property. The owners were so easy to communicate with. My grandson wants to come back again next year!!! Thanks again for my daughter’s perfect wedding weekend❤️❤️

We had a great time relaxing on the porches and walking the property. Everything was lovely. Breath taking sunset and moon rise. A really special place.

We had such a wonderful time here. It is beautiful, peaceful, and there is so much to do. This is our second time staying here. We love the location—right off 29 but you feel like you’re really out in the country. Our kids had a blast playing in the heated pool, playing football, running around the property, seeing the animals, and putting together puzzles. The house is big enough to accommodate multiple families and still is charming. I highly recommend staying here!
8.0 / 10.0
The property is in a beautiful setting and seems to be well maintained. The house had plenty of indoor/outdoor space for individual and group time. Our host was helpful prior to our stay and was available to answer questions also.
Some things which may help others would be to provide bath soap or mention the need to provide your own.
We felt a dimmer switch over the dining room table would have been helpful, motion lights outside near the hot tub including the steps to get in and out of it at night.
Some of the bed pillows had a musty odor and several mattresses could be replaced to enhance the rental.

I use this place for both leading retreats and for family time! I've been here so many times that it literally is my home away from home. The pool, the hot tube, the property, the farm animals, the beds, and ohhhhhh the kitchen that has EVERYTHING is a must see. Beth is easy to work with and always availble if you have any questions at all. 10 stars for sure!

This place does not disappoint. The house is spacious and yet super cozy. The screened in porch is where we spent a majority of our time when we weren’t in the pool. Such a gem! The kids loved getting eggs and seeing the farm animals everyday. It was a super peaceful family vacation.

Beautiful and well cared-for historic farmhouse on a working farm with views of the Blue Ridge. My kids declared the pool to be among their favorites, and they enjoyed visiting the friendly chickens, goats and miniature donkeys at the barn. Hiking in Shenandoah National Park is a short drive, and one of the region’s many wineries/breweries is almost literally across the street.

This was a wonderful property for our yearly family vacation. The house was big enough for our family crowd that grew to 13 by week's end. We did expect the tv/den off the porch to be a private space as advertised and planned to let our teen grandchild sleep there. It is not private but is an entrance to the fabulous screened porch. We had to change our plans and put parents in the bunk room with 5 kids in order to accommodate everyone. It all worked out and I didn't hear any complaints. We lived on both porches and in the pool. Wonderful weather and a great time for our family to make some memories. Thank you.

We had a great vacation! There were 16 of us from age 4 to 70, and there was enough room and activities for everyone. The kitchen was a well-stocked dream, the gathering areas were very comfortable and large, and the pool was amazing. The grandkids loved getting eggs every morning and visiting the other animals throughout the day. It was hard to leave when the time came, but we took fantastic memories with us!

My entire family raved about this place The huge pool, the secluded location, the charm, and let’s not forget the farm animals. My two granddaughters wanted to sneak the goats home. They also loved gathering the eggs every day. We are avid bird watchers and our bird list from the yard grew to over 40. Blue birds and indigo buntings were everywhere everyday. I loved how the home was decorated, so many collectibles and antiques. The beds were comfortable, and the water pressure was excellent. We are used to well water so that didn’t matter at all to us. The host, Beth, was easy to communicate with, although we encountered no problems. I highly recommend this rental; but it will feel more like a home than a rental.

As other reviews mention, the mattresses are comfy, kitchen well stocked, nice seating areas and options for outdoor activities. The screened in porch, pool and trips to the barn were highlights for our 3 generation family.
The house is very nicely decorated. However, for a family friendly home, we were surprised at the number of large decor items that are tempting for preschoolers to touch. Parents may need to be more alert.
Beth was a super host and we appreciated the detailed guest instruction binder. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return.

Great house! Fully stocked kitchen, high end furniture, incredibly comfortable beds, phenomenal pool and hot tub, and it’s all situated on the most beautiful piece of land. We had an incredible time and will be back!

Loved the property and the farm. We spent a day in culpepper only about 15 minutes away. Also go to do a day at Shenandoah National Park. Charolettesville was also only about 35-40 minutes away.

Our family of 14 loved our time here. The property was beautiful, well maintained, and exceeded expectations. The scenery was spectacular in every direction. Loved that the whole family fit at the extended dining room table and ate great meals prepared in the well stocked kitchen. The pool area was resort-like and our daily trip to the barn to see the animals was a big hit with the grandchildren. The gas fire pit made for relaxing conversation at night and the huge screened-in porch was a great way to get outside without nature getting to us. We had a few hiccups with the Wi-Fi and lower AC but Beth addressed both rapidly and professionally (she even paid to have a tech repair the AC at 10pm, with our permission). The proximity to Shenandoah National Park made for great hikes, a few of the adults did Old Rag and got to see a black bear. We were sorry to have to leave and would love to come back someday.

This is the second time my group of friends has stayed at this farmhouse. We love coming here! The home is large and fully equipped with everything you could need. We appreciate the fully stocked kitchen and ample seating in the living and dining rooms! The beds are very comfortable. Thanks for hosting us!

I host Wellness Retreats and I can't stop booking this house! Beth is so fabulous to work with. She is ON CALL if you need her, but you probably won't need her!
The place is SO WELL STOCKED. We never run out of place setting even for 12 of us!
We are nature lovers and the hiking in the area is to die for. You feel in the middle of nowhere but lots of grocery and dining within 10 minutes. I can't say enough about this home away from home!

This is my 4th time staying here with 9 other women to RETREAT. The space is so amazing. There is plenty of space to gather as a group but also plenty of spaces to find quiet alone time. The beds are comfortable, the wifi is fast and the owner is the best communicator!
The kitchen is a dream. It is the most well-stocked kitchen I have come across. Every retreat participant comments on the table and other furniture in the kitchen and the cook I bring along loves how many gadgets and place setting are available.
Beth takes such pride in this home - every time I come back there is another update: new couches, new sofa beds, new linen, even more new gadgets in the kitchen!
I'm going back next month!

It was the perfect space for our annual girls weekend. Plenty of space to be together or escape for some quiet time. Kitchen was easy to use and is pretty well stocked. Beds were comfortable. Close to several vineyards. Loved the barn and barn animals. We’d definitely stay there again.

The property is beautiful! Overall it was great! The kitchen could use a few items including measuring spoons and cups and a bigger frying pan.
The bed in pull out couch in the den is not in great shape and I believe the loft should not be part of the advertised possibility for extra sleeping. Even for kids it was not very comfortable.
The hot tub was lovely and the view spectacular. The farm animals are a nice touch. The host was very responsive prior to our visit which I appreciate.

The farm was the perfect spot to celebrate a family member's milestone birthday over a January weekend. The bedrooms were roomy and comfortable. The living room worked well as a gathering spot, especially with a blazing fire. The kitchen and dining room were great for preparing and sharing meals. Several of us soaked early and often in the hot tub, with the gorgeous views an added bonus, and took long walks through the fields. We absolutely loved hanging out with the animals at the barn and retrieving eggs in the morning. The only time we left the farm was to go wine-tasting at nearby Prince Michel, and that was a blast. We'd love a return trip to Thoroughfare Farm!

We had a wonderful stay at the farmhouse with our multi-generational family, celebrating grandpas birthday! The house was spacious and had absolutely everything we needed, even baking tools! We had plans for outings, but the kids loved the lawn games and farm animals so much they didn’t want to leave. Sunsets were absolutely beautiful, can’t wait to come back in the summer to enjoy the pool and screened porch!
10.0 / 10.0
This place is more beautiful, homie, and spacious than the pictures suggest! We came her for a chill long weekend bachelorette. We secured a wine tour/shuttle in the area and hiked Old Rag. Overall, it was a great experience and definitely five stars. I will note a few things:
1-there we’re a TON of flys/bugs in the house. It wasn’t a cleanliness thing just a bit annoying. They lasted all weekend and we’re just a nuisance.
2-the hot tub was a bit suspect - we opened it up to see yellow water and it was a bit odd.
3- we had hopes of going downtown to charlotesville via cab or Uber/Lyft and it just was not possible. We had to cancel dinner/drinks reservations and stay local. This was NOT negative but just something to be aware of! Even though it’s only about 40 minutes away, I’d suggest staying local for all your food needs (lots of cute options in Madison and Culpepper that were surprisingly delicious!) and not expect to really head down town.

This property is gorgeous and with lots of space. It's exactly as advertised and was perfect for our crew of three full families with lots of littles. The fresh eggs every morning were a really fun addition, and there were so many sitting areas and fun spots to drink a cup of coffee or a glass of wine that there was always a hideaway available.

We had an absolutely amazing time! We took a couple of college students on a "fall retreat" from William & Mary out to Madison and everyone loved being on the property. We got to pet some of the animals, do yoga on the porch, enjoy the hot-tub, and everyone slept wonderfully! Would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking to host a retreat or group gathering.

This house was perfect for what we needed. A group of my girlfriends stayed for the weekend. There was plenty of space to eat together and relax or play games together. We loved petting the goats and donkeys in the morning. The property was beautiful and there were lots of wineries nearby.
