About this house rental

Centrally located on Mount Desert Island is "Tall Pines" Retreat on Ripple Pond. Tucked away, down a private drive on Pretty Pond in Historic Somesville on a 3 1/2 acre wooded and grass lot, is our spacious 1,200 square foot downstairs 1-bedroom suite with a full kitchen and living area, full size washer/dryer with 2 private entrances, and large deck; facing over 1/2 mile of uninhabited woods and wildlife wetland that used to be part of Acadia National Park. It is very, very private and you won`t see a soul from your front deck or windows. Your suite features a large stone fireplace with a wood stove and leather sofa, wood beamed ceilings, and a 280 square foot country kitchen. It also has a separate TV area with a comfy sectional sofa and an extra large flat screen TV.

Relax on the spacious 28 ft. deck with a stunning, unobstructed view of Ripple Pond with rolling wooded hills and multiple wildlife including bald eagles, deer, egrets, falcons, hawks, ducks, beaver, frogs, loons, wild turkeys, geese, and even the occasional sea otter. BBQ on the deck and enjoy indoors or out on one of our 2 large dining tables; or, head out to one of the many eateries on the island and enjoy some fresh Maine lobster, crab, or fresh fish! Sit by the fire pit after a long day of hiking Acadia National Park; which offers over 100 miles of nature trails with breathtaking views, or after touring one of the many quaint towns on Mount Desert Island.

Our location is just 10 minutes to Southwest Harbor and 15 minutes to Bar Harbor, the popular tourist destination on the edge of the sea with many quaint shops and restaurants to explore. Smell the crisp, clean sea air of the Atlantic Ocean at Sea Wall with a picnic lunch about 20 minutes away. Visit one of the Local Craft Fairs or Farmers Markets in multiple places on the island. It's only a short 9-minute walk to Long Pond where you can swim, stand up paddle, or rent a kayak or canoe and paddle to Rum Island. Also within walking distance is Somes-Meynell Wildlife Sanctuary on Somes Pond where you can drop in your kayak or take a mile-long nature hike. On a warm day, you can take a swim at nearby Echo Lake only 5 minutes away. Enjoy the Town Dock on the Atlantic Ocean in Somesville just a few minutes away. Also past the Pond`s End dock at Long Pond is Pretty Marsh Picnic area along the ocean's edge about 2 miles away. You could also take in a play at the Acadia Repertory Theatre or sit alongside Somes Sound by the Historic Somesville Bridge and Library where the resident Bald Eagle resides and watch various types of boats go by.

And of course, ACADIA NATIONAL PARK is all around you including over 120 miles of hiking, biking, cross country, and snowshoe trails with lakes and the ocean for swimming, fishing, and boating. Another great attraction is the carriage roads all around Acadia National Park... only 10 minutes away.

Conveniently located near many Acadia attractions, this place was a nice respite from the crowds and congestion in Bar Harbor as well as the park. The location is clean, well maintained and picturesque. The host responds in a timely fashion and is easy to do business with. I would recommend this to a friend and would stay here again if the opportunity presented itself.

We had a lovely stay at Tall Pines. The views over the pond and woodlands are spectacular, and the proximity to all of MDI is unparalleled. We enjoyed hiking, biking, and kayaking. The kitchen is particularly well-stocked with pots and pans and such, which was nice for some light cooking we did a few nights (scallops from Parsons:). The suite is in a quiet secluded area but it is under the main residence of the owner. We are light sleepers at the end of our sleep cycle and were woken up most days by either the owner, plumbing noises, or a dog gently walking around between 5-530 a.m. (we never heard anybody at any other time). We also would have enjoyed a larger bed (it is a double) given how large the room is. Still, we highly recommend Tall Pines for the helpful owner, lovely spot, and super-convenient location.

Tall pines was an absolute pleasure to stay at. Greg the host was a gracious host and gave helpful suggestions of hikes and places to eat on the island. Tall pines was so cozy and relaxing we chose to eat breakfast and dinner there every night. Afterwards we had a fire in the backyard listening to the frogs, owls and watching the lighting bugs. Its location is in the middle of everything you would want to do in Acadia national park but less crowded. I highly recommend.

We really enjoyed this property and the area. Greg was a great host; available, responsive and excellent recommendations for activities and restaurants! The setting is very peaceful and serene and the location is very convenient to all things in and around Acadia. And as we learned when a rough storm came through on our last night, equipped with a backup generator! Highly recommend, we'll definitely return next time we are in the area.
