Disappointing

The staff is friendly, helpful and kind. The restaurant has a great selection, good food and prices

I requested, and got a message confirming my request, for a downstairs room close to the pool and restaurant (thought Building A). They had an upstairs room ready for us. When I told them I had requested a downstairs room, we were given a downstairs room. The room was HOT with a wooden "couch" with no cushions...not comfortable. The AC was turned on by the man at the front desk (nice guy) and we left for the cool restaurant for a late lunch/early dinner. After at least an hour, we went back to the room--there was no change in the room temperature. When I walked outside to go to the front desk, a female staff asked how things were going and I told her about the room being hot. She told me the windows were open. The curtains were closed and we hadn't noticed. ( Sorry, out of order. This happened before we went to the restaurant.). After eating, I stepped in the shower and could not get the hot water to turn on and neither could my husband. I took a cold shower which wasn't TOO bad since the room was still hot. I tried to dry my hair and the dryer didn't work. I then dressed and went to the front desk to get a fan. The guy came to the room and worked on the AC and brought a fan. It finally cooled enough to sleep but never got cold. Overall, a disappointing experience.

Lovely spot on the river

Really handy for the airport, but had a real rural vibe to it. Lots of howler monkeys and other wildlife, lovely pool and grounds. Rooms and staff were great too.

Short and sweet

The property was close to the airport and provided transportation to and from. The drivers MacKenzie and Edmond were very nice gentleman. They were very knowledgeable about the resort as well as the island. Check-in and check-out was a breeze. The actual resort was well-kept and manicured, quiet, and was a hidden gem. The bar and restaurant food and drinks were very good, convenient, and tasty. The bartender and server were very pleasant as well.

Nothing bad to say about the resort but the mosquitoes were treacherous because of the woods.

Peaceful, relaxing resort with very kind friendly staff.

Conveniently located relatively near the airport. Food is good. Friendly and kind staff. Resort is good if you want peace and serenity, however, there is nothing else there within walking distance except for 1 restaurant (which was closed while we were there).

Limited menu, portions are small and so after several days you run out of choices. Since there is nothing within walking distance, you have to get transportation for everything and that can get expensive quickly.

This was a perfect place to stay because it was a beautiful place, and they would arrange any tour you would like. The staff are very accommodating and friendly. The restaurant on site was very good.

We loved the friendly, relaxed atmosphere at Black Orchid. Mariano is a big plus for this resort!!

The staff was excellent and made us feel very welcome.All meals were excellent. Good bird watching at the top of building T. Very family friendly.

Some of the rooms would benefit from updating, especially in bldg K, and the Bar building needs updating.

A very comfortable hotel and pleased we stayed there.

A lovely hotel located near the international airport and so good for staying at when first arriving in Belize. The room size was very large and the beds comfortable. Nice large bathroom as well with a good powerful shower.

The restaurant, grounds and housekeeping staff were wonderful!

There’s no entertainment on site. Nothing to do at the resort outside of eating and sleeping.

My family and friends arrived during a hurricane; we were not due to arrive for 2 days but arrived early and all the rooms were full. They still made accommodations for us and saved us from a horrible night, they were life savers and made us feel right at home. The owners came out to help us get into the massage room for the night in the middle of the hurricane and got us settled in for the night. The next day they were able to get us 3 rooms as guest checked out that morning. The hurricane had taken down trees and scattered debris across the resort, however they had everything cleaned up within a few hours and had a generator running so they never lost power. Everything was comfortable as could be in the middle of very damaging storm to the area and resort. The staff and the owner could not have been more helpful and gracious. The resort is close the Airport and they have many guides and activities available if you want to see the country and enjoy the best that Belize has to offer. The room they provided was excellent among the best I have stayed in when visiting Belize. We could not have gotten better anywhere in the Belize City / Ladyville area.

Are you kidding me, they literally walked through 90 - 100 mph winds carrying our luggage and mattresses up to a massage room they made available for my family and friends, we were lucky we didn't have to sleep in a rental car during a hurricane. I don't believe I have ever had better service any place in the world. It would be impossible not like everything these wonderful people did for us, the generator really was really outstanding, they ran it 24 hours a day to keep everyone comfortable in the high heat and humidity.

Very nice, quiet and beautiful resort to stay at and recuperate after a seriously long flight

it was a beautiful facility on the river. Room was spacious ,clean and quiet! 🥰 We had been up for 36 hours before arrival and was so pleased by the fact that it was so quiet. staff was super friendly and helpful. Facility had a beautiful pool which we didn’t get to enjoy as we were leaving next morning but other guests told us it was really nice. you could see how well kept it was, super clean. Restaurant had great food and wait staff were on top of things. All in all , it was a great place

Nicely maintained resort. I would not stay again because of the bugs, just not for me.

The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Reception staff was very helpful. Pool area was nice and good to have restaurant area screened in.

Restaurant service was extremely slow and food was adequate. Several of our orders were delivered incorrectly. The dogs and cats were fine, but a loud barking dog tied up is inappropriate.

Poor value for the money

The staff were all very nice. Location is great.

The place was in poor repair throughout. coffee maker had no coffee available, no shampoo is available on site, even for purchase. Pool is dirty. Jacuzzi doesn’t work. For the price, we expected more.

Little Gem

Its a great location to the airport .Friendly staff .has many excursion options

Their was nothing I didn't like. I just feel saddened for places like this ..that you could tell at onepoint it was a very busy, hopping resort . but now very quiet. i hope things bounce back for them. its a little gem of a place !

Highly recommended!

The staff truly make a stay at The Black Orchid a comfortable stay. We enjoyed the property so much we booked an extra night. Beverly and Douglas, the couple who manage the hotel are incredibly kind and welcoming and treat their team with such respect. There's also a resident cat on the property that made our time at this riverside hotel memorable.

The rooms are spacious and the property grounds is beautiful.

Two of the rooms were not cleaned properly we had items from the previous guest left in the refrigerator of two of our rooms.

Quaint, quiet property

I liked the pool, and the rooms were large, clean and comfortable. The restaurant staff were very friendly and responsive, especially Braxton and Kendrick. The chicken wings and cocktails were excellent!!!

It’s really out in the boonies, so you’re quite isolated. The pool is nice, but it’s spoiled by the eye-sore of a building (I think it might have been a derelict bar/clubhouse?). They should consider tearing it down to open up the view to the river below. They picked us up and dropped us off at the airport, which was very nice but then charged for it - even though their website said it was complimentary.

It’s a beautiful property and friendly staff. The only problem was the bed was uncomfortable. I could not get the TV to work but to be fair I did not ask anyone to help me.

I think they could add a little more flavor to their food.
