Beautiful place, great vibe, friendly staff - unfortunately got food poisoned

The location and vibe is amazing - perfect if you're looking for a beautiful beach bungalow to disconnect. The hotel is also used for weddings, and the grounds are beautiful. You can have breakfast and lunch on the beach, and dinner under a large and beautifully lit tree.

Unfortunately, we woke up with food poisoning on our third morning there. We had all of our meals at El Matuy, so we can be certain it was the source. Two days of being sick and not keeping in food - big disappointment.

I am very grateful that this place exist.

Fantastic location on the beach. Beautiful bungalows. Delicious food. No electric light, but candles, good for the soul;) (there is wifi and chargestation for mobiles at the reception). Very calm and serene.

Very poor

We left the property and did not stay for the following reasons. 1) when we arrived, we were taken to a room that was not set up for 3 people. 1 of the beds did not have a mosquito net above it and 1 of the beds was alone on a second floor. We were then taken to another room. The room was dirty and had not been cleaned. So we were taken to a final room which we thought would work. 2) when we arrived we requested massages, after having to go back and forth to rooms we decided not to get a massage. We tried to cancel but the receptionist at the front desk was gone and could not be found to cancel 20 minutes after our arrival. 3) when we returned from dinner in town men as well as two females smoking cigarettes surrounded us asking about the massages. We said no thank you no massages, but they continued to surround us and try to get us to get a massage. It was uncomfortable and we could tell they were upset that we were not getting massages. It was also in the dark of night, with 3 female travelers surrounded by strangers. We did not feel comfortable to stay and we left and stayed at another lodge in town. Hoping others do not have this experience, but sharing ours in case it helps!

It was ok. Something different but not sure I would recommend it or go there again.

The concept of the candles is nice and the rooms are clean. The receptionist was very friendly.

They do not provide drinks during the day. At the beach side there was a house which can provide something but they did not have enough and sometimes there was nobody there. If you want to eat there, they charge 40.000 COP per meal, but you cannot choose the meal and it was very little food. If I do not eat much, its ok, but my father was left hungry after dinner. Repeat any dish or side dish is not possible because they cook very little. Better to go for food to other restaurants around.

the candle light is charming and romantic, and the food is spectacular.

not the fault of the property, but at this time, on google maps, the road you take to get there doesn’t connect with the main road, be sure to look for the Matuy sign!

Unplug from the world

Location is awesome. Cabins are old, but that is the looks. No electricity, fine! Staff is kind and eager to help! We will return no doubts about it!

authentic eco stay (no power, cold showers) in an untouched part of palomino that is authentic. just bring earplugs for

the location is stunning and feels secluded and private, like the original palomino, not a tourist backpacker town. very authentically Colombian.

our cabana (and about 30% of the cabanas) had a shared wall and our neighbors were coughing loudly all night and we could hear it through the walls which made it hard to sleep. confirm with the hotel what cabana you will get if you want privacy. shared walls were not photographed in the pictures. a hostel in the adjacent property was playing music at night which all made it hard to sleep (it was a Saturday night) so be sure to bring ear plugs!

most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen, beautiful bungalows right on the sand.

no air conditioning or lights in the evenings. although the candle lit property and rooms makes for a more immersive experience so there was a silver lining.

magical Caribbean experience

was a magical few days to switch off, enjoy the unique experience of palomino, the ocean, rivers, and Mountain Views. stay here if you want to get off the grid and enjoy what feels like a private deserted island experience. the hotel team went above and beyond to help us and ensure we had a good stay, including when things outside the hotel that were completely outside their control went wrong.

just let people know ahead of time that they’re *really* going off the grid and to prepare for that!

Romantic, pure, calm, and simply perfect!

The property is a about a 15-20 min stroll on the beach away from Palominos main street. Thus, it is very quiet and the perfect romantic getaway. The cabañas are lovely and pure and offer just the right amount of comfort. There is no electricity in the huts, however, you are provided candles, which perfectly accommodates the romantic vibe. The staff is super friendly and the dinner was amazing. Compared to other locations, El Matuy still has a beach and hasn’t suffered too badly from the erosion, which is very significant in Palomino. Overall, a perfect experience!

Poor Value for Money

The location is insane, with probably the quietest and most beautiful resort in Palomino. Staff were helpful in arranging taxis and other.

The breakfast and other meals were below expectations compared to stays in other hotels.
