High up just above the village accessible by the hotel’s own tunnel and lift up through the rock (takes about 3 minutes from the street level) gives the hotel a wonderful quiet and exclusive position looking down on Zermatt and up to the Matterhorn. The view from the terrace, dining room and Matterhorn view rooms is fantastic and the quality and cleanliness of the Schönegg and friendliness of the staff is exemplary. They are getting a new spa and indoor-outdoor pool for winter 2024/25 which will make it even better (especially if the weather is hot). Would not hesitate to recommend this hotel!

First of all, location location location. It is a VERY easy walk from the train to the tunnel that takes you to the elevator that takes you up to the hotel. Or you could just call them and ask them to send the “car”. Our room faced the Matterhorn and I’m convinced we had the best view in the entire town. Staff is friendly, food that we did have was good. Only issue we faced was the bed being on the slightly anemic side.

We absolutely loved this hotel! The staff was amazing and so kind. The views were incredible! Food was also incredible including the breakfast included with the stay!! We had to leave super early our last day for a train and they even packed us breakfast bags for the go which was so sweet and made our early morning easy and delicious! Only complaint is the shower. I don’t know if all rooms have it but it’s just a handheld shower head on the wrong side making it difficult to shower and get water all over the floor. So some shower updates and this place would be perfection!

The setting and the views from this hotel are amazing. It is, however, overpriced for what you get--the facilities are starting to show their age. My room--105--had no view, had a terrible shower, and was in real need of a makeover. For three hundred bucks a night for a single I expected much more.

Excellent location, easily walkable once you know about the tunnel and dedicated lift.
Breakfast selection was good, the in-house restaurant is also worth a visit (we enjoyed our dinner there very much). The view from the restaurant is another positive point.
The staff (hotel and restaurant) was overall very friendly and professional.
Our room was in the 'Charm' category, i.e. there are upgraded versions available. We found it more than acceptable in terms of size, comfort and amenities.
We had an excellent stay in Zermatt and the hotel played its part.
We would definitely consider coming back

This is a great little hotel with superb service. Everyone from the front desk to the restaurant were friendly and helpful. The rooms are well laid out and comfortable. The view of the Matterhorn is magnificent.

Room (in Petit Chalet, a suite) was beautifully decorated and spacious, good value for money. However, we needed more shampoo, and duvet covers had scorch marks. Breakfast was good, but not varied at all.

I just had an amazing stay at Relais & Chateaux Schonegg!!! There are not enough words to describe the outstanding customer service I received from Shuara, Cristina, and Bastian! Their genuineness to ensure I had a wonderful stay was incredible. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, and one could truly just sit on their patio, and have one of the best views of the Matterhorn. The spa is also incredible, and a great way to relax after winter hiking or skiing. I5 is a beautiful property, and I cannot thank the staff enough for making me feel at home in their beautiful hotel!

This is a beautifully kept hotel overlooking Zermatt and the Matterhorn, and conveniently next to one of the ski lifts. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful - they even provided detailed recommendations on which area had the best snow conditions for skiing. The breakfast had a large variety of high quality foods.
Minor details that could be improved on - we had to request that some of the toiletries be replenished; some of the bedding was threadbare/had small holes. These things are so minor though they did not take away from our experience. We look forward to staying here again.

We had an amazing stay. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the room was very cosy and there is an amazing view on the Matterhorn from the restaurant, the terrace and the spa. The hotel also provide a shuttle service to and from the train station. And if you are just having a walk in the village you can take the hotel private lift to avoid the walk up back to the hotel.

The hotel bottom entry is a long tunnel under a mountain - it's really cool.
The rooms were spacious, beds were comfortable, views were great. The staff were very polite and helpful and spoke English. I would definitely stay there again.

What a magnificant hotel. The view of the Mattahorn was so impressive. It was so cool to be so high in the village, but also be able to take their tunnel and be on the street level. Room was spacious and had a balcony.
The only negative comment would be that the restaurant’s dinner menu was quite limited. The breakfast buffet was one of the best we have ever had.

Upon arriving, winding our way up the hill from town to the hotel in the taxi, I was concerned about the trek, or taxi into town each day. It turns out the hotel has an elevator that drops you right into town! So, we were spoiled with a spectacular view of town below and the Matterhorn in the distance while being a 3 minute, flat walk from the center of town!
The hotel is beautiful and Swiss. The staff were very helpful and the restaurant good. The restaurant deck as well as the deck off our room had amazing views of town directly below and the Matterhorn. We could have spent a lot of time on our deck were it not for the multitude of activities in the surrounding mountains.
Amenities in the hotel are as one would expect in a hotel like this. Very nice! There was no A/C in the room, although it probably never gets hot enough to really need it. We left our veranda doors open.

We arrived to find out that we were the only guests in the hotel for the night....the summer season had just started and it was the first night. Needless to say we were treated like VIP's! The hotel staff was absolutely amazing. From a personalized breakfast buffet to making sure we knew exactly what to do in Zermatt, the customer service was fantastic. The mountain view room is a must. By far the best view of the Matterhorn from the town. Would recommend to all of my family and friends. Thanks for making our honeymoon memorable!

This hotel is terrific. Easy 10 minute walk from the train station (or the taxi is about 10 euros). The hotel is in an elevated position so offers great views. There is a tunnel/lift from the main town level so it is very easily accessible. The funicular up to one of the ski areas is a level 100 metre walk from the hotel tunnel entrance. The bus to the matterhorn ski areas stops near the hotel tunnel entrance. The walking trails from the mountains back to the town are very interesting and easily navigated. Some walks pass through some lovely villages with a range of dining options (spectacular views included).

The Hotel Schönegg was a delight. The staff was incredibly helpful (calling two restaurants for reservations each night I was there), the room was comfortable and warm, and the view was delightful. It's situated up on the hill so it's closer to the ski lifts than the other hotels, but make sure to ask about the secret elevator before you arrive. It will save you a walk up the hill with your bags.

The staff at the Schoenegg was very friendly, helpful and efficient. We were able to ski into the hotel and the train up to the mountain is only a short walk away. Breakfast was good but more importantly, the Gluehwein (home made after the hotel's own recipe) was amazing. Other positives were the view from the room, a nice spa area, cozy bar/restaurant, overall cleanliness of the hotel/rooms. The room itself was comfortable but the beds could use an upgrade. If it wasn't for the beds, I would have definitely agreed with the 4.5 star average rating.
