My wife and I had a nice three-night stay at Pilot House. The location in Bayfield is fantastic with close walking access to the main commercial area and the bayfront. Booking was easy, communication with owners was quick and easy, and access to the building was simple. Our room, "Admiral's Quarters,' was clean, comfortable and good-sized, with nice views of the lake. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom is pleasantly large and bright, with a good shower and good sized walk-in closet. The public area of the B&B is beautiful, incorporating two sitting areas, a fireplace and the dining/kitchen area, also with beautiful views of Lake Superior and Madeline Island. We would certainly recommend, though just a few things prevent a five-star review. (1) The "Admiral's Quarters" room is a bit dated and could use a modernizing and brightening spruce-up. Other rooms in Pilot House may be worth checking out. (2) The breakfast part of B&B was a bit underwhelming, consisting of self-serve-from-the-fridge store-purchased muffins, yogurts and juices. Coffee is made in your room. It served us fine, but be aware if you are used to more elaborate B&B breakfast spreads; (3) there is a small outdoor deck with a lovely view that also could use some sprucing up to make more inviting. All-in-all, a very pleasant stay in a beautiful home at a great location that we would recommend.

Lovely stay with comfy and quiet bed. Not really a B&B with no significant breakfast or coffee, but appreciated walking everywhere.

This is our third time to this property but the first time in this accommodation. We loved the spaciousness of the room with private entrance to a lovely balcony overlooking the ferry dock and Lake Superior. The whole experience of Bayfield has been influenced by our stays at the Pilot House. Jack, the property owner is exceptional to work with too. Highest recommendation.

Great location for all we wanted to do

Advertised by VRBO as 2 bedroom. Was only one bedroom with 2 beds. Had to sleep in a tent to accommodate my 2 other travel mates. Owner was kind enough to credit me back but this error put a damper on our trip

The Pilot House was in a perfect location for catching the ferry to Madeline Island and also walking around Bayfield. We enjoyed the views of the lake from two different decks. The house and rooms were spacious and also cozy and very clean. Jack was also very friendly and helpful with our stay.

Jack was very friendly and the property clean and comfortable. I loved the views and sitting out on the deck with the view of the bay! I would have appreciated good coffee in the main area- not worth making the boring stuff and waking up my family. Not really a bed and breakfast with the muffin, juice, and yogurt offered. Very steep driveway and my car repeatedly bottomed out going in :(

Jack was accommodating. Room with a patio had an excellent view of harbor. Thought we had booked 2 rooms for 4 people. Turned out to have 1 large bedroom with 2 beds and 1 large bathroom. Breakfast was not quite what we expected as it was a muffin, orange juice and small yogurt.

Lovely community. Beautiful accommodations. Family friendly city. The Pilot House has a very steep driveway , it may prove difficult for the elderly or physically handicapped. I am a coffee drinker and i found only one coffee place in town. Take a trip to Bayfield you will be glad you did😀

Great location Would like more breakfast choices and coffee/tea

The location and room was great. We had the Admirals Quarters. It was a large room with a King bed and large bathroom with a whirlpool tub and a shower. We had a door that opened to a semiprivate deck that overlooked the lake and the town. We had breakfast in the morning and played cards several evenings on the deck, as the weather was lovely. The only down side was the breakfast, which was the same every morning. Serve yourself muffins, yogurt, and orange juice from the kitchen refrigerator. We made our own coffee in our room.

This was our first time ever in Wisconsin, and we were drawn to the locale because we wanted to see the Apostle Islands; they did not disappoint! The Pilot’s house is beautiful, and has a view overlooking Lake superior. The host, Jack, is wonderful, providing us with information on the area, and we could not be more pleases with our stay! Our host, Jack was very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, clean and had a really comfortable bed. The Pilot House is situated so that you can walk to most activities. We had a great time and hope to go back again some day.

The home was lovely and offered a beautiful view of the bay. So convenient. It was so nice to leave the car at the home and just walk through the town. Everything so close.

Room faced the bay. We had access to the deck where we could enjoy the amazing views. Was within a few blocks of restaurants and stores and the bay. Room was great plenty of space and the B&B was a beautiful space. No complaints at all.

Fantastic room: spacious and a great view.

What a relax! We especially appreciated our private deck with gorgeous views of the port.

With the COVID regulations going on and capacity limits in restaurants and venues our options in the area were limited for activities and dining. Thankfully the Pilot House was a phenomenal place to stay and we didn’t mind spending a lot of our time in our room. We did take-out food to our room nightly and without staying there our trip would have been less than enjoyable. Can’t say enough good things and would highly recommend anyone stays here

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Pilot House very much. The room was very comfortable and spacious. I enjoyed my chat with Jack a lot. Great owners!! Thanks so much for a very needed get away!!

We loved the Admiral's Quarters. The room was in excellent condition, and we loved the size of the bathroom and walk-in closet. Jack gave us the tour of the property when we arrived, and was real hospitable. The decks have great overlooking views of Bayfield, and we spent time enjoying that. The common areas are well appointed and nicely decorated. Overall, we loved it and will stay again if in the Bayfield area.

It was a struggle to check in to this property because the communication between the VRBO and the owner had two different passwords into the property. The owner sent out one check in procedure immediately after booking and VRBO sent out another one a week before our stay. It would be appropriate, in my opinion, to have the owner send out the email a week prior as well, to limit confusion. Other than that, the place was clean and offered a COVID grab and go breakfast in the morning. The only other thing that would've been nice was to have some direction posted about where other necessities would be located -- we ran out of coffee cups, spoons, toilet paper, and didn't know what to do with the full trash. After staying 4 nights, it certainly felt like home, and the property offers some beautiful views of Lake Superior and the downtown area of Bayfield. Everything was within walking distance. Just know that if you want to rent this place, there is a HUGE HILL of a driveway that you have to walk up every time you go downtown. It was great exercise.

Great property located near everything. Cozy little city with plenty of outdoors activities to do.

The Admiral’s room was great, very spacious, with table and sofa, deck had excellent view of Lake Superior and downtown Bayfield, owner was very friendly and welcoming.

Apple Fest weekend - really enjoyed our stay right in town. Walking distance to all activities. Steep driveway - good for cardio and quads.

We just loved the accommodations! The rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious. The inn is just a short walk to restaurants, shops, and marina, although some might opt to take their car so they don't have to climb back up that steep driveway later. We chose to eat our breakfast in town most days because there are so many good choices there and the spread at the Pilot House is somewhat minimal (healthy, but minimal). Nothing beats a mug of coffee, good conversation, and a view of Lake Superior in the morning!

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful bed & breakfast. Excellent views of Lake Superior and within reasonable walking distance to all that Bayfield has to offer. The Armstrongs were very nice, welcoming, and very accessible with any questions. We'd stay here again, and recommend it to others as well!

This is our second time staying at the Pilot House and it is absolutely our favorite place to stay when visiting Bayfield. The atmosphere is extremely welcoming with Jack being a wonderful host. Conveniently located in town for a casual stroll to the local restaurants and boutiques. After some good food and fun in town retreating to the Pilot House, kicking back on the deck and taking in the magnificent view of the water is a perfect ending to your day!
