Bathrooms toilet was not flushing. We had to use common one. Informed the owner and he said he will take care of it later. Ants and lizzard in the room. Owner helped removing the lizzard.

I cannot put into words how magical this gem of a place is. Hotel Laguna Arenal is paradise on earth with the warmest, most welcoming owners. I have never felt such peace, and hospitality in any of my travels. The main reason I picked this place was for the view and the prime location- a 30 minute drive just outside La Fortuna. The pictures do absolutely no justice to the wonders of waking up to birds pecking at your window, lush-green vegetation, howler monkey and bird sounds, and crisp fresh Costa Rican air. Bastian and Ana Melena's are the most wonderful, and genuinely kind owners who really embody "Pura Vida"! Their staff are all kind and very attentive. Rooms are cleaned spotless every single day. I had never felt so welcomed by complete strangers in my life. Ana Melena is a wonderful chef! The complimentary breakfast every morning, the freshly brewed coffee and the conversations were a great way to start every day in good company- not to mention overlooking the most beautiful view of Lake Arenal. I opted to pay for her 3-course dinner on my last day and I was blown away! Ana Melena, Bastian , their sweet dog, and this beautiful place have etched themselves in my core memory and I absolutely cannot wait to come back! Do yourself a huge favor and book here!

The owners were great...we were welcomed into their home. The property has spectacular views, from one of the most beautifully designed rooms / units I have seen anywhere in the world. The food was exceptional! Highly recommend the experience.

Our stay was fantastic...I wouldn't have changed anything. It was an extremely peaceful setting with an outstanding view of the lake, surrounding hills, and volcano.

This is the best place we ever stayed in Costa Rica.Not many 5* hotels can compete with it. There are only 5 individual modern huts with unparalleled views to Lake Arenal. You wake up to the sounds of nature. Anna and Bastian are amazing. They made our stay unforgettable . Best meals we had! Breakfasts are delicious. The rooms are impeccably clean, attention to every detail. Highly recommend!!!!

This place is just amazing. The owners are really friendly and welcoming. You feel like part of a family for the stay - there are only 6 Bungalow-Style rooms. The view from the rooms over Arenal Lake is amazing and you can see and hear lots of birds and wildlife from your balcony (from Tucans to Howler Monkeys). The rooms are very clean and well furnitured and designed. Thanks to the large windows you can enjoy the spectacular view every second you spend in the room. As this hotel is a bit off the main tourist attractions around Arenal / La Fortuna, it is very peacful and quiet, you feel like in your own world.

Just be aware: you have to drive about 300m up a dirt road to reach the hotel. We had a small FWD SUV and it was no problem to get there. If you want to enjoy and do things around Arenal and La Fortuna, you definitely need a car to get around!

Everything ! this place is just beyond perfection. it’s beautiful, you can see the houses were designed with a lot of thought and they are stunning. The view is just wowwww. Even better then the pictures. The breakfast is delicious and big, the staff and the owners are the nicest you can imagine. BEST hotel we had in our honeymoon in Costa Rica ! definitely will be back! thank you

We only stayed one night en route to La Fortuna but I wish we had stayed more. It was peaceful, away from the crowds. You were surrounded by birds and trees, sitting atop the best views. Photos do not do it justice. Breakfast was homemade and amazing. Our hosts were so helpful and friendly. Can’t wait to come back for our next stay.

Very nice home-cooked breakfast using local ingredients. The view from the rooms over the lake is breathtaking and we were also able to see many different types of birds. The sunset was beautiful. Beds very comfortable. The porch/balcony had comfortable chairs and overlooked the lake.

Welcome was short and unfriendly - maybe because of the language barrier (only limited english by staff), parking lot was closed, we had to open it ourself, on booking it's stated that there is a restaurant, what was not the case, only breakfast, loud noises during the night from the building, at night times, nobody there, it is more like a airbnb

Oh my goodness what good thing can we not say about this place? The property is beautiful and every little detail was carefully thought out by Bastian and his wife, Melanna. The bungalows are just the right size for two people. The views of the lake can be seen from the room, the bathroom and throughout the entire property. Though the bungalows are right next to each other you still feel like you maintain a sense of privacy with the tinted glass doors. The breakfast was exceptional, every day Melanna and her Sous chef made something different which kept us excited about showing up for breakfast and everyday it was absolutely delicious. We had a three course dinner the first night and it was spectacular. Sebastian is very knowledgeable about the area and we enjoyed having Morning chats with the both of them every morning. The property also comes with four friendly cats, 3 stick to themselves the other is very social and might show up on your balcony one morning. There’s also a super cute dog called Moonchie, she loves to play but will bark at you until she gets used to you so stay a few days and she’ll be asking for you to let her. It’s about 40 minutes from downtown. We rented a car to get around. You’ll need a car for sure if you plan on doing activities and exploring. It rained off and on while we were there but that’s part of the wonder. There is a dirt road to climb up our sedan did fine on it. If you walk it it’s about 6 mins down but like 15 mins up (it’s steep). There are two to eat at the bottom of the hill l, a coffee shop a few more feet further and a tiny mercado on the left hand side. This is our new favorite spot!

Hotel Laguna Arenal is a true family-owned hotel while delivering up-scale service that is on par with the big chains. The property sits on a tranquil, serene hill with the most fantastic view of Lago Arenal. Your only neighbours are various species of birds, sometimes a howler monkey or two and fireflies at night. Throughout my stay Milena and Bastian helped me figure out some visa issues that drove me crazy and sorted it out for me, which made my worries vanish so I could enjoy my time in the Arenal area. They took care of me and made me feel as if I was part of their family. I'll forever be grateful to them! The bungalows are stylish, modern, clean and immerse right into nature. You can spend a whole day out on the deck just watching the scenery change as the day progresses. For breakfast Milena specifically catered to my preferences so I could have the best possible start into the day. Location-wise, Hotel Laguna Arenal is nestled in between Nuevo Arenal and Fortuna with multiple day activities along the smooth asphalt road around the lake. There's so much to do in the area, you could easily spend a month.

Host was over and above. Very friendly, and make great efforts in making sure the meals were chef quality. Views from the room were simply amazing, as are the grounds. Modern feel and vibe to the individual rooms. Would definitely stay here again.
