The Merchant City Inn is the perfect location for your budget traveller. It is 200 m from St George square where you find restaurants, the hop on hop off city bus, it is 750 m approx from Queen's Station. The reception staff are extremely friendly and helpful. you even get a discount voucher for the hop on hop off bus tour.

Although I am extremely adventurous and independent, I would have like an offer for help to carry my rather heavy suitcase up the stairs. We in South Africa have porters at all our hotels.

It was expected for the price

Nice locked iron gate with intercom at the entrance. I love the real key to open the room door. Nice room, quiet and peaceful. Had a good sleep! Merchant city is an vibrant part of Glasgow. Central - so all is within walking distance. Recommended!

The tower staircase could be incredible, but the bad pointing and ugly carpet :(

The heating wasn’t working but there was an electric heater to use.

staff were rude and took a £140 security deposit which we weren’t made aware of before going to check in

my room was extremely cold when entering, it took 2 hours to heat it with a radiator. My request for a woollen blanket: „we don’t have these“ and: „for a second blanket you must pay“. Unfriendly receptionist. There are much better hotels in Glasgow offering similar rooms for this price.

location was great for getting about the city centre. wifi in hotel was good - i was able to do a zoom call for work with no issues.

unfortunately some lights in our room didn’t work. a bedside lamp would have been useful as our options were big light or no light. also, the shower could have been designed better. the door folded open and covered the dial for turning on. the shower also made squeaking noises throughout.

No lift. 4 flights of steep spiral staircase. The manager / reception manager insisted on a £100 Deposit which was very odd. This wasn’t made clear to me and was confusing.

I stayed at the Merchant City Inn in late August 2022. As the name implies. This is an "Inn", so no breakfast or dinner is available. This was not a problem for me as there are many eating places close by around the city. The room that I had was very good, very clean, ensuite toilet and shower, all very clean. Comfy bed. I enjoyed my stay here. Staff at reception were very welcoming. Has a beautiful spiral staircase.

I can't think of anything that disappointed or displeased me.
