This was a great find, but first things first. It is a difficult and somewhat nerve-racking drive down to Covelhinas and back, especially as the shorter road along the river is currently under repair and closed. But the destination is worth it. The Quinta is approached via a driveway lined with oleanders and bougainvillea's, leading up to a sparkling blue pool. The welcome was warm, and the owners exude hospitality and concern for their guests' comfort and welfare. Our room was large and comfortable with a fantastic view down to the Douro. It was beautifully clean, with antique furniture and gleaming polished wood floors betraying its family home origins, as different from a commercial hotel as one can imagine. It is advisable to arrange dinners when booking, as there are few alternatives in the village, and it's worth it. Meals were locally sourced, beautifully prepared with much of it coming from the quinta's farm and garden. Locally-produced wines together with the quinta's own port were perfect accompaniments. There is not much to do in Covelhinas hamlet, apart from some energetic walking, but the Porto train stops here and it's a short 2-stop hop to Pinhao, with its bars, shops, restaurants and wine tours. The train timetable allows for stopovers from two to eight hours. We took a short river cruise from Pinhao, highly touristic but interesting nevertheless. With a day's notice a private cruise can be arranged from Covelhinas, but we didn't have time. The small number of rooms (three) ensure a friendly and intimate atmosphere, and our hosts could not have been more helpful and welcoming. We would return for sure, if we come back to the Douro.

Christina and Nunno were fantastic hosts. Their property is gorgeous with a beautiful view of the valley. Make sure to have dinner there…their meals were something to look forward to each day. My wife is vegan and they went above and beyond to accomodate her for both breakfast and dinner. This was our favourite stay on our trip of Northern Portugal…can’t recommend this place enough. thanks Christina and Nunno

Quinta da Travessa is an amazing stay in the Douro valley. From the moment we arrived, we were thrilled with our decision to stay in Covelinhas, with the beautiful accommodation, and our amazing hosts - Nuno and Cristina. We arrived in Covelinhas by train and our hosts picked us up at the station. They provided refreshments as we settled into our rooms and had a swim in the beautiful pool overlooking the valley. Cristina prepare an incredible meal for us that evening and we finished with Nuno’s wonderful port. We enjoyed it so much that we returned for dinner the following night after our day visiting wineries in Pinhao. Cristina prepared delicious breakfasts each morning with fruit, cheese and meats, locally made breads, homemade preserves and eggs. it was wonderful to spend time talking with Cristina and Nuno about living and working in the Douro valley. We highly recommend this exceptional experience.

WE had an absolutely best stay at Quinta da Travessa with Nuno and Cristina. Lovely old winehouse with long history and traditions. Had many interesting conversations with Nuno, who was the best host you could imagine. Our room was spacious, well-kept and clean, but jet had this old farmhouse style, which I loved. Great aura and a very good sleep. Breakfast was rich, with different breads, a lot of cheeses, ham, homemade jam and fresh orange juice.
Yard was also beautiful, with pool and sunbeds.
I highly reccomend Quinta da Travessa for staying in Douro valley!

If I could rank it higher, I would. This place is absolutely stunning and outdid all of my expectations. Nuno and Cristina were the nicest people we met in Portugal. The place is beautiful, like an old painting, and styled like a vintage farm. The breakfast was one of the best we had, and the atmosphere of the place is so cozy. The room we had was nice, comfortable and designed tastefully. They helped us with our requests and helped us arrange a nice charcuterie platter and wine, with amazing olives and local cheeses.
I cannot recommend enough and if im ever again, ill try to book another night there.
The only thing difficult was the road to the village. But all of the roads in the valley are difficult to drive, especially after dark. So drive carefully and drink responsibly.

Everything. The rooms and the house are beautifully decorated with a mix of modern and classic. Even though we visited during a heat wave, our room was always incredibly fresh despite not having air conditioning - I honestly don't know how they managed that! The location is also great, being a good choice both for those who just want to relax by the pool, and for those who want to do some hiking and explore the nearby villages. But the highlight has to be the hospitality of Nuno and Cristina who take joy in taking care of every one of their guests. We really felt like we were at home, and the breakfasts and dinners we fantastic. The fact that they only have three rooms really makes for a much more personal experience. I really recommend having dinner at Quinta da Travessa at least once - it's worth it!
Nothing. I see some reviewers have commented on the road, and it's true that it is quite narrow. But just take it easy on your first drive there, and after that you'll get used to the road and it will be just fine.

Beautiful historic house in a cute village in the Douro. Everything was perfect: the loveliest hosts, Nunno and Cristina, snd the most amazing home cooked meals for breakfast and dinner daily. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The pool area was so relaxing, the room was very comfortable and spotless.
We loved the property, but left our rental car as it’s a bit scary drive to and from the property. We took the train (10 minute walk to the station) to Pinhao and went to 2 wineries. (Carvalhos was fantastic - do the Royal tour!!) and Quinta de las Rosa. We hiked up to Quinta da Serodia (4 km up the hills…amazing views). Call ahead for all of the wineries.

Cristina and Nuno are wonderful hosts who have created a lovely cosy atmosphere at Quinta da Travessa. The food is excellent, so definitely worth booking in for dinner. A very relaxing stay!

Everything! Simply everything!Cristina and Nuno have created a very special Quinta overlooking the north shore of the Douro River. Their hospitality and friendliness are boundless. Our spacious room overlooking the River was quiet, beautiful, and modern, yet filled with old world charm and comfort. Adjacent to our room was a comfortable and well appointed communal sitting and lounging area, and next to it, a charming dining area with a wood-burning stove and family antiques. Our bedroom and all the communal windows faced southeast and offer spectacular views of the River and surrounding vineyard filled hills. The Quinta’s surrounding grounds afford many shaded and sunny spots for comfortable lounging. Their swimming pool is beautifully maintained. Free parking is available on site. The breakfast offerings that Cristina presented included yogourt, cereal, cheeses, assorted local meats, fabulously brewed coffee, tea, freshly squeezed, orange juice, breads, home made jam and quince, sweet pastries, assorted fresh fruits, and eggs made to order. REALLY!
Cristina is a master chef and for an additional charge, prepares the most delectable 4 course dinners with the freshest local ingredients, accompanied by local Douro Valley red and white wines, and Nuno’s home made port. Cristina’s and Nuno’s Quinta da Travessa in Covelinhas are not to be missed if you are visiting the Douro Valley.
We loved EVERYTHING! However, those driving to the Quinta, traveling either from the north or from the south bank of the River across the dam, need to be aware that the roads, although well maintained may be a challenge for the feint of heart.
For those, Nuno is only too happy to do a pickup at the Covelinhas train station only minutes away.

Nuno and Christina are marvelous hosts, and the meals they served were superb. Definitely book yourselves in for the dinners they provide - well worth the 25 euros. It is a lovely, quiet area, and while the drive in does pose a challenge, the benefit you receive is an ideal stay in a charming location. Highly recommended!
Only the drive in on a narrow road for a couple of kilometers. Make sure you take it slow.

Six of us booked 3 rooms in this beautiful guest home overlooking the Duoro River and vinyards. Christina and Nuna were gracious and made us feel like family. Breakfasts were the best with fresh fruit including mango and papaya, a variety of cheeses, breads, and meats and eggs cooked to order. Much of the food they prepare is grown in their garden. Christine loves to cook and her homemade jams such as lemon marmalade and pumkin walnut were my favorites. I could go on forever about the superior food quality Including the 4-course dinner with their excellent red wine reserve and homemade tawny port. Our rooms were VERY comfortable and well appointed down to the chocolate on our nightstands. Staying at Quinta Trevassa was truly a highlight of our 3 weeks in Portugal. Abragada Christina, Nuna and Elsa. I hope to return again.
NO complaints whatsoever.

We stayed at Quinta da Travessa for two nights and it was one of the highlights of our Portugal trip. Cristina and Nuno are very welcoming and caring hosts. Very warm staying, delicious breakfasts(and dinners if you opt-in) with homemade products, extremely clean and cozy rooms, beautiful views, and a swimming pool. A place to return to for sure!

Cristina and Nuno are the perfect hosts. Their quinta is the perfect place to stay: wonderful views, nice swimming pool, great room with very comfortable bed and good shower, lovely breakfasts with homemade food. We could recommend also having dinner at the quinta because Cristina is the best cook and she and Nuno are so nice and friendly people. You won't regret staying here.
The 2 roads towards the village are both challenging.

Lovely quaint old farmhouse run by a wonderful couple, Christina and Nuno who could not have been more helpful. We ate there each evening - there isn’t really any alternative - and Christina’s cooking was a delight. Nuno was the perfect host.
If you like a really quiet village - with its own railway station - in an idyllic location with 2 somewhat scary roads to access the village, then this is the place for you. The swimming pool was a nice addition.
My wife has certain walking difficulties, so the multiple steps were a bit of a problem. I think Booking.com should give more details about access

WOW! Cristina & Nuno are the best hosts you can imagine! We stayed for 2 nights and it was perfect. Great location, wonderful pool, delicious food! Make sure you also eat dinner at qunita da travessa and try Nunos wine! :)

* Authentic stay in small and quiet village of Covelinhas
* Perfect and very mindful hosts Nuno & Christina
* great breakfast and dinner (optional)
* nicely decorated house and comfortable room with great views on river Douro and the vineyards
* Nothing, but you really need a car if you want to go to restaurants or a supermarket after a 20 min drive. This was no issue for us.

We felt so welcomed into Cristina and Nuno’s beautiful home. The place is decorated with lots of antique Portuguese furniture and has the most stunning views and the pool is lovely. The breakfast- everything you could possibly want! We had dinner there every night and it was a taste of great Portuguese home-cooked food. Both Cristina and Nuno were so attentive, making sure we knew everything about the local area and where to see the most impressive views of the valley. Thank you for making our stay so special :-)

I was travelling with my sister and we both felt so welcome and comfortable. The owners are great, very kind and helpful. Cristina is a talented cook, we were eating dinner there every evening and she was surprising us each time with different and very tasty dishes. I loved the atmosphere the most, but the place is also outstanding. Traditionally decorated rooms with Douro valley view. There are a few viepoints to admire the view for the valley, but the best one is the pool! Moreover it is very easy to get to quinta, you can reach the place by foot from the train station. Everything about this stay was perfect, we already miss the place and the owners. Thank you Cristina and Nuno and we hope to see you again!

The friendly hosts, Nuno and Cristina. Beautiful pool, generous cooking and great breakfasts. Nuno kindly collected us from the train station nearby as we didn’t have a car and dropped us off on way back. He and Cristina also helped us arrange a stand up paddle boarding session close by.

The most helpful and lovely hosts you will ever encounter, beautiful room, outstanding breakfast with delicious homemade jams and local bread. The swimming pool is an absolute delight after a day of hiking/exploring the Douro Valley! I cannot recommend this place enough, it is perfect as a base to explore the Douro Valley or carry out hiking straight out of the property in the surrounding hills covered with vineyards and olive trees. The optional dinner was also the best food we had during our entire trip in Portugal. Enjoy!

Wonderful Quinta with a nice view on the river and the vineyards.
The owners are very welcoming and caring.
We even had the chance to dine outside on the terrace and enjoy Cristina’s excellent cooking. The breakfast with homemade jams and orange juice was delicious
Unfortunately we only stayed one night.

Cristina and Nuno create a place where you can feel authentic Portugal. They are very nice and helpful people who make you feel at home. They take great care that the guests are not bothered by anything, making sure everything is okay. I recommend everyone to try the dinner prepared by Cristina finished with Port wine produced by Nuno. Breakfasts are also delicious and full of local products. Hosts talk a lot with guests and tell interesting facts about life in Portugal. Thank you so much for this great experience! :)
Staying in a room with a terrace overlooking the Douro Valley is a place where you can really relax. Around a beautiful garden with citrus and kiwi trees - an unusual and wonderful environment for someone from Poland, where such plants don't grow. :) You can also try figs from the garden - they are sweet and delicious! And of course the Douro Valley ... a real wonder of the world!

Enjoyed our time here so much - Cristina and Nuno were wonderful, so friendly and welcoming with great advice about the area. The food was exceptional, the breakfast was fantastic - lots of wonderful home made treats - but make sure you have dinner here, we loved everything! So much we even asked for the recipes! The room was lovely, with a great view from the window and the location was good - quick and pretty train ride to Pinhao if you want to enjoy some wine or port tastings. Definitely recommend!
