Service was not at the level you would expect. Some of the staff were slow and unresponsive.

The food was amazing and your staff is super friendly
Would have liked there to be room service

Meals were excellent buffet style. We had a great ranger who was very knowledgeable and was great with kids. The rooms were very clean and tidy and recently updated. We had an issue with TV reception when we arrived. I reported it to the front desk and it was sorted within minutes. We had great sightings of all the big 5 except the leopard. But we did spend 30 minutes with Wild Dogs so that more than made up for no leopard.
I was staying with my daughter so I requested a twin room. This was a slightly smaller room than the usual rooms as it appeared to be the adjoining room to the usual adult's main room. If I was going again I would request a normal room and share the bed. But we were also staying on a long weekend so perhaps accommodation options were limited.

The breakfast was an interesting variety and well presented and found the staff to be extremely friendly all round.
The location was conveniently placed.
The surroundings around the entrance to the lodge and swimming pool was very beautiful but feel you could improve on the surroundings around the actual rooms

Food was great, staff friendly and helpful
African experience for overseas guest
Only had one milk in the room
The guide on the game drive was not enthusiastic at all - very commercialised and only had a goal on chasing to view any of the big 5. Would be a better experience if she gave more information on the bush and explained different things about the animals seeing that there were not so many animal sightings - can still make the experience better by being enthusiastic about the experience and the bush and being in the wild ect. Was at Mabula years ago and definitely had more animals than what we saw this time

The service from Louw was excellent. He is very passionate about his work.
Moses was very impatient with me at the horse riding. He discouraged me and said I wouldn't do it coz I was scarred and how kids as young as 5 years can do that. He was very unprofessional and not nice. The quad bike guy encouraged me to do the horse riding and the 2 ladies who were guests. The three were understanding. Moses made my experience uncomfortable. I'm glad I didn't listen to Moses coz I would have missed out.

Beautiful private reserve with a lot of game. Room with great confort. Variety of food. Very nice kids area
No view from the room. Quality of service and communication between the staff could be improved. No real activities proposed for the kiddies - inside of the kids room needs to be re-think and refurbished

The game drive staff were excellent. Especially our driver William. The drives were amazing and we saw lots of wildlife.
I don't normally like to do negative reviews but we were VERY disappointed with our stay over New Years Eve.
The check in was not very professional and we felt like we were an imposition for them.
We were not greeted with a welcome drink or any type of refreshments.
Our room was good, with a comfortable mattress and nicely decorated. We did have a slight leak from the ceiling as it looks like they had recently installed a new thatched roof.
Our meals were just ok but nothing special and the menu lacked any type of imagination or variation.
Our biggest disappointment was that we had booked this resort for New Years and we were expecting some kind of celebration.
They charged extra for the new year meal, which was no different than the other meals and there was no real feeling of ringing in the new year.
All food was gone before 10pm and even the bar stopped serving alcohol at 1030 pm!!
We ended up at midnight in our room. Very disappointed about the lack of any kind of celebration. If we had known, we would have planned to go elsewhere.
The next day decided to hang out at the pool area and were once again wondering how it was possible to find a place by the pool when there was not enough loungers and sun umbrellas for the guests. Many people had to sit on the concrete with their towels or simply left the area.
In closing, they definitely need to train the staff to be a 4 or 5 star resort.
Many of them seemed lost or unable to understand what people were asking.
Most of them were very friendly and courteous but a few employees could not smile or be friendly to the guests and seemed to just be unhappy.
As I said before, the game drives and drivers were professional, friendly, knowledgeable and fun to be with.
We wish that would be the case for all of the employees.
Sadly, that was not the case for us and I can't really recommend Mabula to anyone I know.
I do hope that they try to improve the experience and the brand.

Breakfast was good but unfortunately did not cater for those that did not eat beef or pork. We had notified the lodge prior to arrival but we our request was not met.
Unfortunately getting tea or coffee was very slow. We had to ask a number of times.
Very poor communication.
When we arrived, we were informed that we had not paid fully for the accommodation which we booked through Booking.Com. We had to give confirmation of our booking indicating that we had paid in full and email them proof of payment (Bank Statement).
Two months before arrival, we were informed that there will be a surcharge for the Christmas Lunch. We had no option but to pay. This amount could be included in the nightly rate or the travellers informed when making bookings

The staff were superb despite the lack of support from the management team (assuming there was actually a management team). Alfred the chef and Julia were lovely as were most the waiters and housekeepers and game ranger.
Lack of oversight. At every meal, they either ran out of plates, spoons or certain dishes and due to the lodge being understaffed, it was a battle to get someone to attend to it. The staff on shift tried their best but cannot be expected to do 5 people’s jobs at the same time. The lodge lacked atmosphere. On rainy nights, the fire was not lit in the lounge. New Years ended at 10:30 without any entertainment besides a 20 minute African dance which was lovely but short.
The napkins at every meal were always damp. We had to go to reception to ask for towels for the room after phoning reception and waiting, only to realise that nothing was being done about it. We spoke to a manager who told us that the towels first had to be washed and dried before being returned to the room.
It seems that Mabula used to be quite special but it is now just a huge disappointment and waste of money. It won’t be long until overseas tour groups and locals realise that they can get way more for the same or less rates at other Lodges.

The staff is absolutely amazing and friendly. The value for money is also very good. I highly recommend it!
They even have a generator that keeps the whole site running during load shedding.

The staff were outstanding in reception, dining room and servicing the bedroom. The food was excellent.
The sheets felt as though they had been starched and were very uncomfortable. The rooms were not up to the standard of a 5 star Lodge especially at the cost of the accommodation. It is not wheelchair friendly.

Their food was very accomodative of all age groups from kids to adults. The staff in the kitchen was able to prepare special food for my child who only eats specific food.
The separation of toilet and bathroom in family rooms.

Really enjoyed the game drives led by a very passionate game driver. (Our vehicle number was M23 - I think the guide's name was Dian?) Please also convey our sincere thanks to him. Learnt so much this weekend. Would come back again - this time with the kids - if only for this experience :-)
Accommodation wasn't too bad but I think a bit of maintenance can improve overall experience. We had to ask for patio chairs to sit outside and there were no swimming towels in the room. However, on request from main reception, we did get towels.
