Loved the place, exactly what I was looking for. Tucked in the peace of the Manistee National Forest you'll find this quiet gem. Great views of Hamlin Lake, a cozy cottage to relax and unwind, and not to far from all that Manistee and Ludington have to offer. Hosts were excellent and I look forward to returning. If you're into woods, water and quiet, it's perfect.

Clean, beautifully decorated and equipped. Gorgeous view of the lake. Everything I hoped for. Perfect for a couple looking to get away for a bit. Enjoyed hiking on the Nordhouse Dunes trails.

Cute little boat house with everything you need for a great getaway on the lake. Clean and very well stocked in all areas. From chairs and tables outside to TV and fully appointed house. Owners were very helpful with the lay of the lake and the best places to fish and Sun. Also hiking trails near the house and a short drive to the fantastic lake Michigan.

Our stay in the Shadows was very peaceful. Lots of wild life and quiet. We loved it! Next time we are taking our boat. The cottage is very clean and the view is great.

This place had a great location on the water and was very clean and well kept. Deb was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay and made the check in/our process very easy.

The cottage was exactly like shown but even better views. Deb was very responsive and we had everything we needed. The cottage was very clean, Kitchen was well stocked with the necessities. It was perfect for our 4 night long weekend. Location was perfect for hiking and Lake MI beach at Nordhouse Dune area. Hamlin lake is a treasure by itself. I would definitely recommend this cottage.

This is a beautiful, spotlessly clean cottage with an extraordinary view of a small lake. The hostess, who lives on site, is a delightful person whose kindness and sincerity will further add to your stay.

We had a wonderful stay at The Shadows. The view was wonderful, the hosts were kind and helpful, the dock was easy to access and tie up to, and the parking was closer than what we envisioned. We definitely would stay here again.

Neat and clean.

We enjoyed our stay and loved the view of the lake. It is close enough to Ludington State Park that we were able to spend time hiking and going to the beach. Also close to town. Hosts are excellent would definitely go again.

2nd time at the shadows … first time in the cottage closer to the lake - absolutely wonderful. Some of the best relaxation we could have asked for - evenings at the firepit, days on the swing and listening to lake splash against the dock. We found this listing during the pandemic and desperately craved the peace and tranquility in spite of having the flexibility/freedom to fly to a vacation destination . We made the 6hr drive from columbus,OH because Deb and Mark’s place is just that comfortable, relaxing and exactly the dose of unplug we needed before the summer officially ends. yes it is remote, absolute safe and they have already thought of everything. Just bring your groceries, your clothes and willingness to unwind.

We found our experience to be relaxing and peaceful. The cottage had every amenity one could ask for.

Beautiful property, beautiful cottages, a bit of a challenge to get there but once there, no regrets. 30 minutes to Ludington, 20 minutes to Manistee. Hosts were so accommodating. Great experience.

We have stayed at the Shadows in the past The house is great for 2 people but can accommodate 4. Very clean and comfortable. The location is close to Nordhouse dunes that has great hiking . We went into Ludington and Manistee, both great towns with State parks. Deb and Mark are helpful and friendly. Enjoyed the Adirondack and zero gravity chairs, lots of shade and sun on the property. Good for boating or kayaking. Would recommend this VRBO to anyone

I must highlight the cleanliness and comforts of the house. The place is a beauty absolutely recommended.

The 5 mile gravel road is well worth it for this view. We brought our kayaks and it was a perfect place to paddle. My husband loved that he could fish right outside the cottage doors. The owners live close by but were very good about giving us space and privacy, yet responded quickly when we messaged them with questions. We enjoyed the puzzles and games provided (Uno, Yahtzee) on the rainy days! Well stocked kitchen where we made the majority of our meals (get groceries before you come, the nearest grocery stores are about 30 mins away). Not having a washer and dryer was the only downfall but we were able to hand wash the things we needed and hang them on the clothesline provided for outside drying. We would definitely stay again and will recommend to friends !

The cabin and its location exceeded our expectations! The cabin is bright and cheery. Its right on the water, the perfect place to sit and relax. Nestled in Manistee National Forest for a quiet getaway! Dan & Joyce

This little cottage was cozy and comfy. Well taken care of and little thoughtful touches like the little rugs for your feet next to the bed. Wonderful place to relax.

Could not have asked for a better stay in Free Soil. Everything was as described. Cottage was clean and comfy! Would highly recommend and can't wait to visit again.

The entire process went so smoothly from booking the trip through the entire8 day stay.The unit by the lake is exactly as appears in the VRBO listing.and so adorable and very clean. Deb and Mark are awesome hosts, anything you need they will help (Mark even set up my new fishing rod). I would definetly recommend the Shadows for a very relaxing vacation.
