First time we were in a ryokan and we really wanted to try one and experience the traditional Japanese guest house. It didn’t disappoint :) For one night, with dinner and breakfast. It felt amazing, like we were transported to an old Japanese museum. Loved the traditional Japanese style rooms. Took a bath (was alone) and made us ready for dinner. Dinner was interesting, very decorative with different seafood. Great for trying out Japanese food. Slept on the comfortable futon beds. Had breakfast with the view of the nice Japanese garden, which we very much enjoyed. Personnel were very friendly (the lady who served us as well) and accommodating. They welcomed us and also waived when we left. Highly recommend it (at least for one night).
Enjoyed everything. Except maybe not used to personell knocking sharp at 10.30 at the door when check-out is. Makes you stressed. So be ready at sharp 10.30 to go. But maybe because this is more a small guest house and not a normal hotel like the ones we usually go to

I have no words for this place and the people.
Everything is just beautiful and we felt so so welcome 🙏🥺 It was for sure our best experience in Japan!
We are looking forward already to come back to this amazing place!
Everything was just amazing.

The services is superb and it is definitely a great place to experience the Ryokan. Very beautiful place and the futon beds are super comfy and kept us warm for the cold weather. A super big thanks to Kaori-san who hosted us during our stay. My wife and I had a great experience with her
The rooms have thin walls. So if your neighbors are talking loudly, you could hear them loud and clear.

Everything was amazing, we loved the traditional tatami room and the Kaiseki was exceptional. Staff are extremely accommodating and very kind, Yuma-san made us feel welcome and helped us with our Japanese. The public bath was very relaxing, an easy first experience for us.

The staff here is WONDERFUL and so incredibly kind and thoughtful. Throughout our stay, if we had any questions, they were there to help. The tiniest of details (i.e. which shoes we wore, a glass of water after a long walk) were managed with excellence! We took a walking tour the next morning and asked if we could store our luggage. They said it wasn't a problem and even arranged for a taxi (without us having to ask) to take us to our next hotel once we returned to the Ryokan. Overall, the staff was incredibly attentive and provided us with amazing service. We loved staying here for one night!
The onsen was slightly dated compared to other onsens we had stayed at in Tokyo and Hakone, but overall this wasn't a problem. We had hoped to have a "view" while bathing, but it's just a small bathing area to relax in. We still loved going and returning to our room for a beautiful meal. We were very relaxed and felt taken care of the entire time we were there.

To stay in a Ryokan is an absolutely amazing experience, you feel like you're in a movie where you are the main actor. Seikoro is a great option where every minor detail is taken care of. Probably the best thing is the dinner experience brought to your room by the nicest people in the world
As much as it is a unique experience it does not come cheap. I would recommend a Ryokan and Seikoro in particular for special occasions. We did stay for 5 nights in Kyoto but only one here because it was so expensive but the service and attention to every detail you get is second to none

Too old and expensive for value

The food (dinner and breakfast) were fantastic - though be prepared for lots of food. The service was amazing. The inn itself was beautiful.
Price is a bit high, but a worthwhile splurge.

The staff was polite and professional and the facilities were very well kept. Overall, the site exceeded all possible expectations, not only would I highly recommend staying there, but I myself would stay there again.

Japanese hospitality at its finest. Every single thing was perfect - gorgeous room and garden, absolutely delicious food! We felt that staff were going above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and give us an amazing experience. A real gem!

We booked two rooms: one for my wife and me and another for our two adult children. We were lucky to have both rooms in the historic portion of the ryokan. We were served welcome tea in our room and our children joined us there. The staff elected to serve us our meals in a private dining room instead of our room. It was perfect (we had no preference for our room vs. private dining for our meals. We had a Kaiseki dinner and it was superior to the other ryokan we stayed. The location was close to a train (subway) station, which made for easy transit around Kyoto and nearby Arashiyama.
We had no complaints. This was a pricey stay, but it met our expectations and we were more than willing to pay for this memorable experience. The staff were attentive, but not intrusive as some reviews may have suggested.

This was my first stay in a Ryokan and it is really beautiful with a wonderful atmosphere. My room had a view of the garden. Very relaxing. Teru provided exceptional service. My Kaiseki meal was delivered in a timely manner to my room. Each dish was a treat for the eyes and tasted delicious.
I opted for the deep wooden bath in my room - though the Onsen did look very inviting.
I chose the Japanese breakfast option, also served in my room. It was also tasty and satisfying.
Staying at Seikoro Ryokan is an experience not to be missed.

Absolutely fab stay, super kind hosts who were very accommodating of our toddler. Would highly recommend getting dinner and making good use of the onsen (tattoos allowed!) Flawless service from start to finish and an amazing breakfast as well.

Very friendly reception, rooms an interesting mix of traditional Japanese with European elements from the late 1800's, early 1900's. Food was delicious, seasonal Kaiseki dinner, traditional Japanese breakfast.
If I want to be picky: the selection of sake to go with the dinner was somewhat limited.
The baths were fine, nothing special (but that is not the reason to go to a ryokan in Kyoto, anyhow).
4.5
amazing property with amazing staff
shame the property is next to a very busy road so noise levels are high and we had issues with bugs at night despite windows being closed

Great experience, lovely ryokan, exceptional staff. Our room attendant, Akari, was lovely and made our stay very enjoyable.
One minor thing is some noise from the road after 7am.

The staff were very polite. The room was clean. Onsen was nice though I had to go away and return twice because the first two times it was at capacity. We enjoyed the traditional experience
Parts of the room were very dated. It was freezing cold at night and we had to use the portable gas heater that was plugged in. The walls were paper thin so we could hear everything, in particular road noise and it was especially difficult as there were children running and jumping around upstairs until well after 10pm and from 6am. I understand this is part of what happens when you stay in an old building but it’s worth bearing in mind. Also, I understand that you are paying for the experience and the hospitality but it was still an insanely expensive price for one night, especially when compared to what’s available elsewhere

Seikoro Ryokan is the epitome of quiet luxury. We have stayed at many top hotels in the world, and Seikoro Ryokan is undoubtedly our favorite. From the personalized care of our wonderful room attendant, Mai, to the delicious Japanese breakfast and intricate kaiseki dinners served in our room, this was an experience unlike any other. We felt welcome and appreciated and thoroughly pampered, and we highly recommend Seikoro Ryokan to anyone looking for a traditional ryokan home during their time in Kyoto.
There is literally nothing that could be improved upon!
