Great location to use as a base to explore San Juan and other towns by tuk tuk or boat. The communal area was comfortable and bright with a good kitchen and strong wifi. Staff were friendly and you felt safe in the accomodation. Loved the local paintings in the room too!
The shared toilet is right next to the kitchen/communal area which isn’t always pleasant and the shower wasn’t working on our last day (but this only happened one time during our stay). I would also suggest a lamp in the rooms as our main light was very bright and there was no natural light in the room.

Very clean, modern, well laid out hostel. Small but has everything you need. We stayed in the apartment/studio and it was excellent. The Wi-Fi is strong, the location is great and it is spotless. Thanks Andrea! We had a great stay.

Very cozy and comfortable little hostel and also San Juan was one of our favorites around Lake Atitlan. The owner, Andrea is a lovely person and she has even supported us with a personal emergency.
There were no hangers in the room which could be easily improved.

Location was great, it was clean, quiet, and very comfortable. Staff were friendly and kind. It was a great value too.

The beer sold was extraordinarily expensive q 35 for one small beer is real rip off

Friendly and helpful staff advised on things to do & transport options. The place is quite small with limited guests, but cosy and has nice communal areas to relax and hang out. A small and basic but functional kitchen means you can cook meals if you don’t want to eat out. Dorms have blankets or fans depending on temperature. Plenty of sockets to charge things and a big locker to store stuff.
Only 1 toilet and shower for the whole place but it was never an issue when I was there. Staff aren’t on site 24hours so although you have keys for access, if you need them for something else, you have to message someone or wait til the following morning to speak to someone. Both minor points though.

The staff are so friendly and helpful! They made us feel very at home and safe. There is clean drinking water provided and our room was very big. Shower and bathroom were always clean.
There's no outside area to sit but that is to be expected in this area.

One of the best hostel i’ve been, really clean, cosy and very friendly. The owner is really nice. I recommend 100%. If one day I come back in San Juan, I will definitely go back here.

There is not enough words in the English language to describe how incredible Hotel Chirris is and how kind the staff is. My two weeks at Hotel Chirris exceeded every expectation I had. Andrea, the owner, goes above and beyond to attend to every need and had done an amazing job making Hotel Chirris feel like a home. You can feel the love, vision, and passion she has for this place. From the small details like individual hand towels to the larger details like well-equipped common spaces, Andrea has made Hotel Chirris by far the best hostel I’ve ever stayed in and I can only see it getting better as it continues to grow. (P.S. I stayed in both the dorm and the private rooms during my trip. Both are incredibly well thought out with outlets near the beds, plenty of storage, and comfortable mattresses.)
On top of that, the staff— Elena, Francisca, and especially Marta— made this experience so much better. As a remote worker, I spent a lot of the weekdays working from the hostel (note: there is strong wifi). Throughout the day of working alone, I was able to chat a lot with the staff, and they really became close friends. We shared meals, jokes, and stories, and they are really what made this trip *so* special. Everyone on the Hotel Chirris team is warm, inviting, and will be missed dearly.
If you’re wondering if you should stay at Hotel Chirris, the answer is 1000% yes. The hostel draws a quieter crowd who is looking to make connections and have a less touristy experience and a warm place to spend the end of their days, so if that’s what you’re looking for, Hotel Chirris is for you.
Muchas gracias a todo el equipo de Chirris— nunca te olvidaré y mi experience en San Juan.
The noise of the streets at night, but that comes with having a nice central location and is out of the hostel’s control!

Stayed here for two weeks and would highly recommend this place. Very central location in San Juan and only a short 20 minute walk to San Pedro. If you're looking for a party hostel, look elsewhere. If you want a smaller, more quiet hostel at the lake where it's still easy to meet people, this is it. Not to mention the small/cultural charm of San Juan that you get too. There's only one dorm room with 4 beds and two private rooms. I was in a private room with the shared bathroom and had no complaints. I worked from the room most days and had no problems with the wifi and zoom calls.
The owner, Andrea, goes above and beyond to make sure this place is clean and that the facilities/beds/kitchen are above average. My bed and pillows were incredibly comfy. My private room even had a desk for work, some plants and a nightstand. It's very clear that Andrea cares about her property and her employees, Marta and Francisca, who are always cleaning and were great too. Andrea was helpful for booking hikes, shuttles or general recommendations. I constantly found her talking with guests for long periods of time, including myself.
Being in the center, there were some nights with noise due to a concert or church event nearby. This comes with the territory when you stay near the town center. Most nights ended by 10 or 11 anyhow and seemed to happen more on the weekends.

Andrea was a fantastic host and arranged many excursions for me. room was nicely appointed, clean and the beds was comfortable. Mornings were quiet with lots of bird sounds!
Nothing in particular. you are in the heart of the San Juan village, and so you will hear street sounds, dogs, etc. but this expected. Sometimes the village has stage/performers at the main square, not far off, but these were delightful performances, and so you will hear the music/lyrics. I don’t think they occur too often, and they usually stop around 10 pm.

We had an amazing stay in chirris hostel. It is a very cosy and beautiful hostel. Everything was very clean. The rooms were large and beautiful with good facilities. The best kitchen we had so far in a hostel with a lot of additional things we could use (like spices, oil, …). We would recommend this hostel to everyone. We thought it was a good price as well. We really needed some rest and immediately felt at home!
Because it is located in the very centre of the beautiful city, it can be a bit noisy. But the atmosphere was so good we didn’t care at all.

liked my stay a lot, 4 bed dorm, spacious, clean, quiet little hostel in the center with friendly staff

Exceptional hostel: close to the pier, spotlessly clean, towel and hot shower included, good little kitchen (even with smoothie and coffee maker - bring your own coffee), comfy beds and quiet in spite of being so central. Do yourself a favour and book a couple nights here because they fill up quickly (4 bed dorm), and you will love it :) Andrea the owner is a wonderful host and speaks perfect English to help with your queries - on my first night the wind was CRAZY and blew something over on the building site nextdoor which leaked water into the hostel. The floor flooded but I as soon as I told Andrea, she sorted it out right away. Very professional!
Nothing, it was all great.

Very new hostel with comfy beds and a great kitchen. The atmosphere felt familiar. I had a great time. The hostal is owned by a very knowledgeable and lovely young woman of Guatemala. Go support a female entrepreneur!

Clean, helpful staff, could not ask for a better location. Super good WiFi!
It was cold, not sure if it was a weather problem or a building problem. Ended up sleeping with my winter jacket on, so some extra blankets would've been nice. Took a shower in the morning and felt like freezing the whole time cause both the water and room were cold.

Really good price point for a simple but comfy and veeeery clean room. The kitchen is small but has everything you need and the bathroom same!
The neighboring dog barks all night… just bring earplugs!

Beautiful hostel, close to the embarcadero and the main square. The spaces are perfectly organized and it is a calm and clean hostel in general. Totally recommended in San Juan!
The wifi connection might not work all the time, but it's not under the control of the hostel.

Andrea -the owner- really opened a great hostel here! It has not many beds which makes it very familiar. There is a cosy common area and a well equipped kitchen. Location is a 10/10 as the place is right in the middle of San Juan.
All the ladies are super friendly, helpful and caring! At New Years we all got invited to a lovely brunch with the whole hostel Crew which was super nice and super delicious.
Andrea really takes time to answer all your questions. There are still some things she is working on (some more lamps, hooks ..) but it is already a great place! We would come back!
