Great location- two blocks from beach; very safe area. Appreciated the cable TV and not having to log into my own accounts to watch Netflix etc., or stuck watching free streaming. Two rooms was great for kids.

The Santa Cruz suite was nice. The bathroom was clean, pretty quiet. We had two cars but parking on the street wasn't an issue for the second car. Although not the property managements fault some lady said I stole her spot in the back I informed her there are no assigned spots. The location was great just a quick 10 minute walk to the beach. And about a 45 minute walk to the downtown area. I'd probably stay here again.

Basic cleanliness of this Santa Barbara apartment, labeled Santa Cruz, was adequate (linens). Everything else was very poor quality. Online photos did not reflect actual reality. Only half the windows opened and only half the window shades opened; thereby reducing air flow and light. Two windows would not close completely. The bathroom conditions were awful and reflected a lack of maintenance over a long period of time, likely for decades. The bathroom window would not close because palm fronds were growing between the outer window and inside screen. Many areas had chipped paint and bathroom floor tiles were chipped and cracked. The bathtub was an old tub with jet spouts that were dirty and moldy. Caulk around the tub was cracked and moldy. An old, sheer curtain hung over the exterior window but did not provide privacy. The bathroom door would close but would not remain open unless a drawer was extended as a doorstop. Bathroom drawers were lined with old, stained paper liners. Instructions were included to wash used dishes before the final exit, but this could only be done in a shallow bathroom sink without a drain stop or the dirty bathtub.
Number codes provided entrance to the stairs leading from the outside door and to open the door to the apartment. There was no second security lock to secure the apartment door beyond the dead-bolt lock, and no peephole to see into the hallway shared by two other units. At 2:00 AM on the third night of stay, the smoke alarm rang despite no evidence of smoke or fire in the vicinity. A day later the smoke alarm in a nearby unit rang at 7:00 AM, again with no sign of smoke or fire. The fee for this apartment was almost $254 per night as well as a $171 cleaning fee. No cancellation was permitted beyond 24 hours after booking the unit, so there was no recourse for recouping the rental charge and moving to a different property. Communications with Vacasa provided no help. Despite my purchasing trip insurance, the policy did not cover cancellation due to horrible apartment conditions and my financial obligation for the entire five night reservation remained in place. I DO NOT recommend renting this apartment. There are many other rentals, as well as small and large hotels, in the area.

The location and room was just fine, the bathroom had some mildew in the shower and around the window as older places frequently do. The issue came with the stocking of very basic supplies, mainly toilet paper. We were left with one partial roll and when I called I was told my rental agreement stated that when any supplies ran out it was my responsibility to replace them. I went back and thoroughly read the agreement, in no way is it made clear that this includes TOILET PAPER! Shampoo, soap, even dish soap I can understand. Not toilet paper. We ended up having to take time out of our very short weekend that was meant to be spent with our dear friend for her wedding going out and buying toilet paper. The rental company refunded my cleaning fee, but would not refund the service fee they charge despite the 5 phone calls I had to spend my time on trying to get a roll of TP dropped off to us! I was told someone would call me back three times and didn’t receive that call until I was home and demanding financial compensation. When I was finally granted the refund, I was told it would take 4-6 WEEKS for a check to arrive in the mail. Absolutely ridiculous, I would rather get a room at the motel 6 down the block that has a pool and likely a free supply of toilet paper! So disappointed in vacasa as a business.

Great to be near the beach. It is an old house, with creaks and thin walls that go with it. The place was clean and well equipped. But desperately in need of care. Two big shades in the "sunroom" were dirty and broken only they only stayed down, chipped paint, no anti-slip mat in a slick shower, other things that you rarely encounter for this price.

Loved the location, close to the beach, we walked to several places. At first appearance, walking the streets on the backside near the tracks felt a little sketchy, but we never felt unsafe or encountered anything to make us nervous. Continued to walk every day without issue.
The unit itself - I knew from the listing it was an old house, but it could use some touch-ups, it felt a little dingy. I could tell it was clean, just needs some TLC here and there. Mainly in the bathroom - cracked paint on baseboards and in corners, old jet tub, dingy tile. There was a musty old house smell overall. The linens were very comfy though.
The listing said they provided ear plugs but we didn’t see any. We just used our sound machine app, which was definitely needed - the neighbors in our house were loud every night when they came home and you can hear every little sound from adjacent units. And there was the train as the listing mentioned. We slept fine anyways.
Fortunately I paid with credit card points that discounted the overall cost, but if I had paid the full price posted on Vacasa I would feel a little shortchanged after all the fees that get tacked on. If there were no better options through Vacasa in the area I would stay again though which is why I gave 4 stars.

Short visit in Santa Barbara
The location of this property was the main reason we chose it, nice and close to the beach. It was clean, but floors were unlevel, especially in the bedroom where the head of the bed seemed lower than the foot of the bed. And there was a 10 digit code to unlock/ lock the door to the room which was very cumbersome /bothersome every time we left and came back. Not sure we would stay here again as the cons probably outweighed the pros.
