Phenomenal stay. Booked last minute having never been to Lugano or really knowing anything about the city. Lucked out by staying at this amazing hotel. Room was perfect. Staff were absolutely lovely and kind and helpful. Patio drinks were so good. Self service bar is a great idea. Location cannot be beat if you are traveling by train since it is only a short walk from and to the station. We loved our stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Lovely hotel in spectacular location on lake Lugano. Art center, historic sites, restaurants, and shopping within easy walking distance. Hotel breakfast, pool, and common areas were exceptional and staff were super helpful and friendly.

Unfortunately we only stayed at this beautiful hotel for 1 night. The Hotel is conveniently located on the tip of the plaza and across the road from the lake. There are many restaurants within walking distance.
Our room was very clean and the bed comfortable however, the pillows were very soft. Breakfast was fantastic with a wide selection.

It seems to be a very old hotel, but very classic. The outlook, public area and dining area are well maintained. I’d suggest that the room needs to be renovated as it looks a bit shabby.

We enjoyed staying at International au Lac Historic Lakeside Hotel. It is a good mix of old-style hotel with antiques with modern convenances and upgraded rooms. The location is very convenient at the lakeside end of Lugano’s upscale shopping street (Via Nessa) and just a short walk to the main square Piazza Riforma and lakeside Promenade. The breakfast is very nice served in an elegant room with efficient wait staff. They give you a Ticino Ticket to use for free transportation and discounts on some attractions. The bathtub is wonderful for a soak after a day of exploring. The staff is helpful answering questions to make your stay in Lugano enjoyable. There is good Internet and a nice pool and beautiful garden area for getting some sun. Families with kids will enjoy the play area.

The front desk, dining room, and room service staff were outstanding: friendly, helpful, accomodating. The hotel property is FULL of character and is VERY well kept. On the second floor, there is also a large outside courtyard for your enjoyment complete with a full-size chess set! Transportation to the train station and buses is right outside their front door.

Overall the hotel was okay BUT the shower did not work because the knob diverting water from the bath did not lock in place. The water pressure was very very low and it would take 2 hours to fill. I have never ever come across this before. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

The hotel is well positioned along the waterfront and within easy walking distance from the station (using the funicular to come down/up the hill). It has enormous charm and wonderful gardens. The room was terrific and breakfast was a great experience. Overall a wonderful stay in a top class hotel.

We stayed two nights and it was a fantastic place to stay! We loved having drinks on the front patio looking at the lake in the evening. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful. The best thing was the wonderful breakfast including eggs, ham, cheeses, yogurt, cereal and fresh bread and croissants. It was all very delicious and filling! Next time we are in Lucerne we are definitely going to stay here! Thanks for a great experience!

First the good—the hotel’s location is fantastic! Easy access to transportation, shopping and restaurants. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet and had A/C. The bathroom was tiny and there is very little room for toiletries if more than one person is staying in the room. Only after we commented on the lack of coffee service did one show up (the next morning) and the hotel does not provide any additional amenities such as bottled water, shampoo/conditioner, etc. If you are simply looking for a place to sleep and not concerned with any of the rest, this is an okay place to stay.

A wonderful hotel. Great location, staff were very helpful and the pool and garden area was a bonus. Lovely breakfast and do get your Ticino ticket from reception that gives you free bus travel and discounts for some attractions (Mount Bre)

Easy to find. Bigger room compared to most European rooms. Honesty bar was nice and breakfast was good. Easy access to funicular, train station, and area attractions.

Breakfast had a good variety of foods and in very nice surroundings. Free coffee all day. Location is ideal. Staff helpful. Garden area and pool areas a bonus as well as public sitting areas. Overall enjoyable except for a slightly higher price.

The only minor criticism related to the non-functioning air conditioning. We were told that it hasn't been switched on because it had been cooler earlier in the week, but this meant that the room was rather too warm overnight.
