The single piccolo room was quite small, and tight space, but as expected. Bathroom layout was odd, no space for toiletries, etc. But the bed was comfortable, air conditioning worked well and the room was spotlessly clean.

All the staff are really helpful and friendly. The food is really great and I enjoyed several breakfasts there.I will definitely be going back to this hotel.

Central location but poor welcome: if you look foreign, dont bother making the effort to speak Italian, it will not be appreciated. Overwhelmed, unprofessional, unwelcoming young receptionist, biased to local visitors. Overpriced basic facilities, attractive historical building yet it looks neglected.

Would not recommend this hotel.WiFi only works occasionally, but you have to be in the hotel lobby.Chairs in breakfast room had horribly stained seats.Really turned our stomachs and unable to enjoy breakfast.

Lovely old hotel in a great location in the walled city not far from an entrance gate and only a couple of blocks from the train station. Parking was outside the gate but only a 10 minute walk away (5euro/day). The desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast was fine. The recently renovated rooms ( a second room was occupied by my brother and his wife) were very spacious with new and comfortable furnishings and a great shower. I would definitely stay there again.

I stayed in a single room for 1 night. I arrived at the hotel 1.5 hours before the check-in time of 2pm so the receptionist told me to come back at 2pm then my room will be ready. When I came back at 2pm, the room wasnt ready and I was asked to wait for another half an hour. I found their service unprofessional.The hotel is located close to an entrance to the city near the train station and very convenient.The room was very old but its an old building and I did not mind the old style decor. The room I stayed had a lovely tiled bathroom with windows.The TV in the room did not work and I did not get the Internet connection in my room.my review of the hotel is mixed but because of the location of the hotel I rate it 3 stars.

Universo is Grizabella the Cat of Lucca. Elegantly over the hill, blessed AC, very helpful and friendly front desk, perfect location in Lucca - Puccini concerts every evening are an easy stroll to the adjoining piazza. Complimentary breakfast with sufficient variety for most palates - meat, cheese, hard-boiled eggs, pastries, fruit, juices and hot beverages. Complimentary wifi, while available, wasnt so very reliable.

This hotel maybe old but it was spotless and the location couldnt have been better, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there,

Excellent location in an old-world charm hotel. Large rooms and bathrooms with lovely tile. You could tell this hotel was made for the well-to-do of its time. It is a lovely hotel and we hope to stay again some day in the future. Also included was a fairly descent breakfast. Only drawback was wifi was located in the reception area of the hotel, not in our room.

From check in to checkout it was a pleasure to stay in the hotel. We have never stayed here before on any of our many visits to Lucca, but we would stay there again. The only drawback was that there was no safe in the room, but the safe facilities in reception made up for this and was easy to deal with. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. At one point, my wife was involved in an accident and was hospitalised for 48 hours. Even though we were due to check out shortly after the accident, the hotel staff arranged accommodation for extra nights so that I could stay near my wife. The service offered was very good.

The staff was helpful and friendly. Breakfast was very adequate from an European point of view as it must be noted that they are not big on bacon and eggs. The hotel room was great with a huge bed.

Very pleasant welcome. Staff courteous. Bed very big and very comfortable. (although as with a lot of hotels the pillows could be a bit bigger). Some wallpaper was coming off the wall in our room. Fantastic location, very central. Breakfast average. Would recommend to anyone and would definitely go back.
