No front desk no phones in the room 12 o’clock. Neighbors have a party till four in the morning. Dry throughout the hotel mold in our bathroom on the ceiling big patches of mold we should’ve bolted from this place, but I already paid through Hotels.com. The balcony looks like it’s ready to fall down. I’m going to call the city and complain. feces residue in the toilet when we arrived

Skid row would be cleaner in LA. Lots of mold in the room.

Do not stay here. Dangerous and hazards everywhere in the room- things broken, things missing, we had a leak in our room (which we told person at front desk and they didn’t do anything). No one was ever at the front desk to help. The location of the hotel was great, but that was the only thing pleasant about this hotel. I wish I would’ve read the other reviews before staying here.

Great location!

Run down, but right in the heart of everything..

Bring ear plugs if you wanna get some sleep it gets pretty noisy. But besides the noise everything els was great.

I am a very well seasoned traveler and this is probably no this is the worst place. I’ve ever stayed. It was dirty. The beds were so uncomfortable and squeaky and slumped in the middle. There was no closets to hang anything just too big dresser drawers. The lighting Was pretty much nonexistent. There was a light fixture, but it didn’t have two bulbs in it and there was no light switch to turn it on anyway. The other light flickered. When we arrived, there were no toiletry items I had to request them after I had complained on my arrival comments. The place was very dirty. In fact we found somebody else’s socks and room key in the room still. It seems great. You’re right next to the beach but extremely noisy, and I would rather walk to the beach farther than this place again. Also extremely overpriced.

Horrible service, room condition

Very old, all equipment wasn’t work. In the morning at 8 :30am on 4/14/24 nobody was at concierge desk. We were unable to make check out. Just left a keys. Food for Continental breakfast on Saturday 4/13/24 finished at 8:30 am. I will never use this hotel again and definitely will not recommend it.

The bathroom door didn’t close and there a male African American knocking on some of the doors. We were leaving the next morning, so I didn’t think anything of it at the time.

We were greeted by the most helpful and pleasant front office staff named Christina at the Villa Rosa Inn. Apparently Ala Mar is owned by Villa Rosa Inn and I think the owners also run the one across the street too. Christina was quick and efficient, yet friendly and sweet. Our room 104 at Ala Mar by the Sea was comfortable and clean. We could tell they are in the process of updating some of the door frames. Ours was a beautiful Spanish style door. Christina let us know that we were welcomed to join the Villa Rosa Inn for breakfast and happy hour. The fireplace and seating area at Villa Rosa Inn was quaint and comfortable as well. We felt welcomed by the staff at Villa Rosa Inn, as we hung out there a few times during the rain this past weekend. All in all I will stay at the Ala Mar by the Sea again. It was such a great deal for a place directly across from the ocean!!

Property was old, toilet smelled of urine, the door to the unit wasn't sealed properly. in a nutshell, it was a dump

The location is great. The hotel itself clean, but not well maintained. We were on the second floor, the balcony sags in many places, the roof above in certain areas looks like it’s coming down. Burned out lightbulbs in the bathroom, toilet cover cracked, poor water pressure, shower head leaks and sprays water sideways. Couple of homeless people hang out on the sidewalk and plug their phones in next to the ice machine. Free breakfast was at the hotel next door, much better shape, but the breakfast was way on the cheap side. The place needs a total restoration to regain its prior beauty.

The room was fine except for not having AC. I went to get something out of my car and there were several homeless peopl sleeping on the steps.

This place was unexpectedly fun. Though older and not in the least sterile it exudes charm and character. The Villa Rose is a true gem in the heart of the Santa Barbara beach scene. I could have easily and happily stayed there several more days!

It was ok. The breakfast ran out early. I requested clean towels during our stay and I had to actual go get them as they never brought them. There was broken glass in the parking lot that was not cleaned up.

There were no closets in my room

The place was nice and clean access to the beach is great.

That was without a doubt the noisiest room I have ever stayed in. The guests above us started having a party at 2AM that lasted till 4 AM, with noise continuing sporadically afterward.

Property could use some additional maintenance. The location is perfect for going to the beach and wharf. The staff is great. We picked out our room with early arrival and were satisfied.

I love staying here when I come to Santa Barbara!

1. Stains on the bed sheets 2. Pillow cases were waxy/greasy 3. Mold in the window sill near the bathroom. 4. Windows didn't stay up 5. Food debris from previous people on counter 6. Hotel host was not attending front desk upon arrival. Waited 30 mins for her to show up. 7. Patched hole on the bottom of the hot tub which was degrading resulting in little bits of plastic debris that floated in the water

Apparently facility is not smoke-free, only the rooms. Which meant that the drug-dealing family in the room next door (who seemed to have been living there for a while) were free to smoke right outside our room all night long. I asked the front desk about it (as in, with other rooms available, why put anyone right next to them) and was told that the manager would speak to the smokers: “they will understand”. And they didn’t smoke the second night. They just talked and whistled for their dogs and moved furniture until almost 2a.m.

The lobby and pool area were relaxing and unique. The room was clean and quiet. The staff was friendly.

I am not one to leave reviews good or bad but there were some things that were unsettling. I guess if you visit in the offseason you don't get anyone onsite. Someone broke into our room at 4am because our windows didn't lock. Straight up put his head into our room from the window. Of course we couldn't get a hold of anyone to make sure this dude doesn't continue his noisy exploration of the property because there is no one on site. Front desk moved us the next morning to another hotel under same management but would not comp our terrible night. As much as I wanted to like this place, I would not stay again.

OK place. Quiet. Two criticisms: 1) I arrived at 3:30. No one at reception and there was a line. I waited until 3:50, left, came back around 4:20 and receptionist was back.Check in OK after that. 2) Breakfast area very crowded.

Staff was very nice and accommodating. Great location with many things to look at. The room we had was spacious and all were very unique. The entire place was very unique and beautiful to see. The complimentary breakfast and snacks/wine were delicious.

Close to points of interest in the city

hello. room stay is antique experience, which is fine with me. unfortunately there was no remote for TV & no receptionist to call after 9 p.m. very nice & cozy stay
