DO NOT STAY HERE! One of the nights we booked at this hotel, our door did not work so we could not get into our room! We tried everything we could to contact a staff member but there was no one on site to help us at all. We had no choice but to find another hotel for the night and this was at 3am! When we talked to the hotel staff about what happened they refused to give us a refund and told us to contact the booking site. Additionally, this hotel is in the worst part of the city with homeless people everywhere! Loud noises and music playing on the street throughout the night so if you would like to get any sleep at all do not stay here!
Very unprofessional establishment, please for your safety DO NOT stay at this hotel!

Good place for the money, location is borderline with homeless hordes, but if you dont mind it's fine.

I recently stayed at a hotel in San Francisco and had a pleasant experience overall. The hotel was very clean, with a simple and basic atmosphere that made for a comfortable stay. Although our room didn’t have a private bathroom, the shared bathrooms and showers were spotless and well-maintained. The staff was friendly and welcoming.
While the area outside the hotel is a bit grimy, with many homeless individuals and drug addicts around, we didn’t encounter any problems. Despite the surroundings, the interior of the hotel is surprisingly nice and feels like a peaceful escape from the outside.
However, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who has trouble with stairs, as check-in is located up two flights. But if you don’t mind that, it’s a solid choice for a clean and budget-friendly stay in the city.

Where do I even begin ? The good old saying you get what you pay for really applies to this property. I came here for the San Francisco marathon, and i’d rather spend $ on souvenirs, merchandise, food than to spend it on a hotel boy was I ever wrong. Its’s located downtown SF don’t let that fool you though the area where it’s at is terrible, there’s homeless people & druggies in front of the property. I arrived to the hotel for a late check in at midnight (I couldn't leave from la any earlier because of school), oddly enough the hotel requires a ring to enter the facility. Literally was standing outside for 10 minutes next to homeless people & druggies, thankfully nothing happened but I was freaking out because I had luggage and my belongings with me. Inside it’s safe the room where I stayed was decent, I stayed in a king bed with a private shower, the bed was extremely uncomfortable and the shower was tiny. Outside was noisy with people yelling (my guess is the druggies & homeless people) , and sirens so I could hardly sleep. After a day I decided to switch hotels.. nothing against the hotel it was mainly the area it was in and how unsafe I personally felt. If you’re not worried about the environment around the hotel then go for it, otherwise I wouldn't risk staying there.

Best thing about this place is that it was located above an awesome dive bar. The Rumpus Room.

This place should be advertised as a hostel not as a hotel.

5 stars for friendly staff and being very clean.
1 star for no heat/cooling in room and noisy homeless people day and night on the street below.
Combined score: 3 stars.

Great for the money. Very convenient to attractions and public transportation. Rooms, and shared bathroom/shower areas were very clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Area can be a bit seedy late at night, but stay aware of your surroundings, mind your own business and you’ll be fine. Hotel itself is secure. I’d definitely stay here again.

Unable to check in. Stood on the street for 30 minutes trying to ring in from about 8:45-9:15pm. Called and texted the phone number. Eventually made a reservation at another hotel.

Pros: the staff are super helpful and accommodating. I was provided with an iron upon request, was able to do a cash deposit instead of card, and was provided with a space heater because I was cold. The price can’t be beat; and it is very convenient for transportation and walking. I also only saw one other guest so it felt very private despite having a shared shower and bathroom area. The shared spaces were very clean.
Cons: the bed was so uncomfortable. I have stayed in shelters with better beds in my lifetime. I woke up super sore today. Also it was very cold. They said the radiator would kick on at a certain time but i never felt it. They provided me with a space heater that kept my room warm but the shared bathroom and shower area was still chilly.
The room was in the condition you’d expect for $57 a night— clearly worn in but definitely clean. Overall I would be very likely to stay again if they replaced the mattresses.

The neighborhood was shoddy, but the hotel was secure and clean.

The elevator didn't work going down, and the immediate area in front & around "hotel" resembled a 3rd-world country (not touristy San Francisco)

Winsor is a hostel and not a hotel. If you want full amenities go to a hotel.

Clean and cheap. Better than hotels at the same price. The ceiling fan was making noise, and have to be turned off when I was going to sleep, but it was not a big problem.

I didn’t get his name but the guy at the reception desk was very nice and attentive. The room I got 310 was more than what I expected. Looks like it was renovate recently. Property is very central to everything in SOMA. There is a chicken place on the corner (chicken Gaia, I think) that sells great food. Overall very happy with my stay here.

Great last minute price for a room during a busy time in that area of SF. The staff at the desk did their best to accommodate an early check in due to my situation which I very much appreciated. Clean room. Nothing fancy, just a reasonable stay on a quick trip.
Not an ideal neighborhood for families with young kids as it is quite dirty, noisy, and an area with a prominent homeless population. However, if you are of the mind to understand that there is no actual threat as long as you are not wandering the streets alone at 3am then this is a good deal for a stay if you are in a situation where you are visiting SF to be out most of the day seeing the sights and just need a place to sleep.
I would stay here again.

The location and the cost of this hotel were great! Getting in and out was hard however. The hotel can't control that people live on the street outside the door of the hotel, but sometimes I had to wait to get in as people were urinating or spending lots of time at the door to get into the hotel. The person at check in was nice and organized. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean, but the area was very loud outside at 2-3am and I had trouble sleeping. Appreciate the value of this place, but won't be staying again

We already didn’t expect very much, but the hotel was in a very bad shape, with an extremely old and uncomfortable mattress, a super loud street and windows that might as well not be there.

Lovely little building that is well-kept, tidy and quiet. The streets outside are busy, lots of folks around all times of day. Inside, you feel very safe and the rooms are quiet. Rooms look nicely and newly renovated. All common areas are kept very clean and well-maintained. Absolutely no complaints. The description provided by the owners is accurate. I like supporting a family owned business! Good experience for needing a safe and reliable place to stay in the centre of the city.

The place was well located, but the neighborhood was not that good during the night. The hotel has the necessary things to stay in. You can notice that it is old, but is well maintained.

The front desk staff were very nice to me! I knew before hand that the bathrooms would be down the hall but it was still inconvenient of course, the neighbors were respectful and the nightlife was very fun to watch out the window! Everything was neat and clean for us when we got there and i didn’t find anything gross or weird! it was overall a very good choice for the location! access to all of the transgender district from one spot! i loved it!

For the price it was worth it. Too bad San Francisco has increased its homeless population. Rooms are small but enough.

I wish they would just stop calling this place a hotel. Before you book that place, know what you’re getting yourself into. With just a little imagination and will, they can improve a lot.

The chick-in counter is on the second floor and the elevator does not work to the second floor, so you have to carry your luggage up the stairs. The bedroom was clean and simple, the showers and bathroom were clean but very small.Notice that the bathroom and showed in this hotel are shared. There are 2 showers and 1 bathroom per floor.

The room and the shared bathroom were very clean and hygiene. I also liked the location of this place because it is really close to the public transport and the famous San Francisco’s cable car.Yeah this location is sprawled with transients but the hotel also prioritizes the safety as you need enter the hotel with an access card. If you walk street and don’t mind them, the whole situation is nothing.
