Management was very accomadating w/ early check in and late check out while we were doing activities. Room was large and nice, in town center...convenient to all .

This stay was absolutely perfect - we spent 9 days here and felt right at home. It was clean and our stay was refreshing and relaxing. There is a bit of noise from the street as it is a busy road and near a lot of bars, restaurants, etc. We were able to use the kitchen for cooking and storing food items. They clean the room every 2-3 days but they check in to see if you need any additional toiletries or extra cleaning. They are available via Whatsapp and give prompt responses to any questions!! Couldn’t find anyone available to check in, apparently there was an office outside that i must’ve walked right by. The place was nice, clean and easy. Solid alternative to a hotel

The property is located in the heart of the city centre. So walkable to and from so many dining options, sites, and shopping. It is not that far from the airport as well. It is clean and staff were so helpful.

The location is excellent! Can walk to everything, wonderful cafe across the street for morning coffee and pastry. Hosts are outstanding! Printed my boarding pass and scheduled a taxi for my departure. Can’t say enough about the service I received! The apartment was very nice with a comfortable bed and great shower. The building is older but completely updated and I loved the charm of the building with its 20ft ceilings. Would definitely stay again.

Greatest experience ever. Spacious rooms (20 ft ceilings!), clean, comfortable, right in the city center. And the staff is the best. Kudos to Nuno for showing up at 11pm to help me solve a problem. 5 stars service, truly. Highly recommended.

Everything was perfect at Casa do Mercado, except that we booked a room at Casa Ateneu.

The property was OK. The staff was very nice and always tried to help. But the room was smelling like mold!! We’ve let the windows open the whole time, so the room wasn’t smelling like mold after, but the bathroom didn’t had a window, so it always smelled like mold. Due to the open windows it was very loud. If you want a good sleep, I don’t recommend you this property, even if the windows were closed, it was too loud and noisy. We asked if it was possible to get gluten-free breakfast for one of our friends and if it’s possible to leave out everything with pork from the breakfast basket, they told us that it was possible. The first day we got a box with cheese and pork mixed in one and a pack of gluten free bread. The next day, after we told them again that we asked for pork free meals the left out the pork-ham. The third day it was again everything with pork AND no gluten-free bread anymore…. at the end we asked them to give us back the money for the breakfast because we couldn’t eat anything at all. The breakfast at all wasn’t good anyways.

Perfectly located in the middle of everything. Clean and big rooms and classy decoration. Big showers. Nice clean kitchen. We love staying here.

I was early and I was able to store my bags. Staff incredibly friendly and available at a phone. Helped get a taxi when I stranded myself on the far side of the island. I don’t recommend getting stranded but know that they will help. Clean place and everything I needed. Except AC in my room. The fan they provided helped. Would stay again.

Aaa Ateneu is perfectly located to walk Ponta Delgada. Everything in the apartment worked beautifully

We were notified a few days prior to our arrival that we would be moved to Casa Das Arcadas because Casa Ateneu was being renovated. Given the state of the site were Casa Ateneu is located upon our arrival in the city, these renovations had obviously started prior to our booking. We found that telling us only a week prior to our arrival, when it was just simplest to go to another of their location, lack transparency on the part of the owner. The room was spacious and modern. The location was central, in close proximity of main attractions. Beware, there is nobody onsite and the check in was unnecessarily complicated. We were sent the main door code, and then were asked to call them on whatsapp. But inside the hotel, no indication of an internet password. We had to ask another traveler to get the sheet from their bedroom.Finally, as there is nobody onsite, you rely on other travellers' good judgement to keep quiet at night. There was a party in the shared kitchen/dining room until midnight one night, and a rowdy group of friends who decided to have a post-drinking snack at 4 am on another night. Three of the rooms are just next to that shared area. So if you want a quiet stay, not necessarily the best place for you.

The rooms are good. Bed is good and the room confortable. Hospitality is not good, nobody receiving, impersonal. Breakfast in the basket is very poor quality, soluble coffee, cheap cheese and jam, industrial juices, no recommended by the price. The hostal has a shared kitchen with fridge, you can do your own breakfast much better.

There is public parkign arount the adrea of old town, paid between 8am and 7pm Mon to Fri. Unfortunately, due to some covid issues, we’ve got accomodation in Casa das Arcadas instead of Casa Ateneu. All was good. We didn’t take breakfast, but there are a lot of different caffeterias around. Restaurants are open till 10pm. Area is central ans very pretty

Upon checking in and checking out the experience was really convenient and wonderful. We arrived much earlier than check in time but were permitted to leave our luggage in the staff room for safe keeping. For check in the entry code and key were so easy and quick. The room and common area were very clean! Not a spec of dust. The bed comfy and space was cute. The best part of my experience was the service and kindness from their main office staff. They are so responsive to any questions and on our last evening we were very worried about finding a place to print our boarding pass and getting a taxi to the airport at 6am so we stopped in to ask for help. The gentleman was so kind and printed and dropped off our passes to our room and arranged a taxi pick up for the morning. This really was so wonderful and like having hotel concierge service. Thank you so much for your help.

We had an excellent experience at Casa Ateneu. Room #7 is palatial and comfortable, and the feeling of the whole establishment was one of ease and serenity. It is in the heart of Ponta Delgada, with restaurants, the harbor, and the farmers market only steps away. The only issue, as others have commented, is that room #7 has a periodic problem of a sewer smell coming from the old pipes of the building. We got used to it, and it didnt bother us too much, but it might be an issue for those sensitive to smells. Otherwise, we were completely satisfied with our visit.
