I traveled alone to Costa Rica. I had booked the taxi service a week in advance and had a confirmation sent via email, but when I arrived at the airport, no one was waiting for me. I had to call the guesthouse and they immediately sent someone to pick me up. It was about a 15 minute wait time. The hotel staff was very friendly and helped me book tours in advance. They also were very helpful in giving me walking directions. My room was very clean. The shared bathrooms were clean most of the times. Usually if I got in late the bathrooms were a bit dirty. However, I took flip flops and used the shower without problems. They provide soap and towels; all other items must be taken by you. The area looks a bit shady but you can walk without problems. Overall, it was an amazing stay for my solo trip.

Location is very good and safe

This place is fine for a night and for the price. One of the staff members was very helpful and gave us info about buses, the other didn't seem like she wanted to be there or attend to guests at all. The room was fine but the corridor it's was on and room was very dark. The bed was ok but not that comfortable, being able to feel the springs. Place was clean and shared bathrooms had hot water showers. Little seating area in reception to chill in with free tea and coffee. Good location walkable to Barrio Escalante for meals/drinks/coffee.

I liked the room clean and comfortable. The restaurant had good options very tasty authentic Chinese food. I liked the room with pool view. Would be nice if hot tub was in operation too. Staff was helpful and courteous

wifi in my room was weak and didn't connect, my cell phone signal was also 3G. the room is spacious and comfortable. water pressure was good and the hot shower was comfortable.

Everything was excellent, the only problem I noticed was the difficult entrance to the parking lot (even dangerous because of the traffic)

I stayed at Costa Rica Guesthouse twice - the beginning and end of my solo trip because i liked it so much! The location was great for walking to local attractions and driving to the airport. The free parking was perfect. The staff was great and super helpful and the room was spacious!

One of the best hostel I’ve stayed. It’s definitely worth its price.

Good spot for an inexpensive stay in the city & a short walk to night life.

Property management needs to improve on the water supply maintenance. It is unacceptable that there's no running water to at least get a shower

I liked the vibe at the work station hostel building, it felt spacey enough between rooms so that you almost feel like there’s only a couple of people staying there.

The bathrooms need to be updated . Customer service could be a little better during the night with the one gentlemen.

Maintenance issues with water outages and house pump not working at all times. Please fix the terrace table, it's been broken for years, as I recalled I brought this to the staff attention.

Great stay. My boyfriend and I are travelling for 8 months so this was perfect for our budget. Very clean. Central to the town and lots of information at the reception on local site seeing and tours that they can organise for a fee. Also free coffee! Only issues was one of the showers did not work well (cold water and no pressure), but the other shower worked completely fine. The area around the hostel was perfectly safe walking during the day. I felt quite safe at night, but I am travelling with my boyfriend which definitely made a difference. I would not want to be walking around at night by myself as a woman.

The property was well located. Very spacious room with a large bedroom. Everything was great, But unfortunately my partner and I had to kill some cockroaches in the bathroom. Not sure if this was not cleaned properly or no bug killer enough sprayed around, windows were all opened when we arrived, so not sure where it came from or if it was already there.

I liked the cleanliness,quiet and comfortable bed.Some rooms are nicer than others but a pleasant stay. Staff generally helpful,with lots of information.

Convenient location if you like to visit San Jose center city. For the price can’t ask for more . Good and comfortable bed. Bring all your toiletries.

Cheap and cheerful, but also clean, friendly and efficient.

The location is excellent, walking 10mins away the downtown, 5 or less you have the National and Jade Museum, the Central Market is 15mins away, the local breakfast is delicious and it is economical, the hostel is nice, comfortable and clean, the only thing we didn't like is that the floors are made of wood and you make too much noise, which can be annoying for the other guests who are in the same room, the lockers still make a lot of noise when opening and closing

It was great to stay in the old section of the hostel and see the history there. Overall, appreciated the cleanliness of the bathrooms and rooms.

Staff is always friendly, also 24 hours is a plus. The breakfast in the morning is cheap and the perfect start to your day!! Walking distance to downtown for shopping, food, museums and transportation is in abundance.

Best quality/price ratio you’ll find, many tours can pick you up directly at the entrance, easy to walk to many San Jose must see spots Would highly recommend

It's a simple and cozy place. Great service, I get way earlier than expected and they allowed me to early check-in. Staff has great service and it has good restaurants for breakfast and lunch nearby. I will totally get back and I recommend the place wholeheartedly

The shower

Loved the available coffee and the breakfast was great. The gate to the front entrance was very squeaky and slammed shut throughout the night making sleep very difficult. I'm sure this was due to inconsiderate guests, but there is a definite party atmosphere with the Backpackers Hostel right across the street. Not ideal for folks who prefer quiet.

Loved the reception time and staff attitude.
