My wife and I live in the states. She is from Cali and I have been visiting Colombia for many years. We have numerous family there, including our daughter. I am very familiar with Medellin and can say that the hotel is located in a safe part of the city and close to things that you can walk to (during the day) without a problem using normal, everyday precautions. This would include grocery stores, pharmacies, strip malls and a large Mall which are a 6 to 8 minute walk. At night time, this is not recommended. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Plain clothes security personal are posted in the lobby and the immediate exterior of the hotel. They were very alert and attentive. They are unarmed. Some of the staff at the front desk spoke sufficient English to be able to converse at a basic level and respond to questions. The room is rather small in size but was clean and in order. However, the bathroom is laid out in such a way that there is no way to sit anything down like a towel or a change of clothes, etc. The breakfast was buffet style. The food and juices were very fresh, and the offerings were slightly different each morning. Not a large selection but certainly ample enough to start your day off with a full belly. The cost of everything has risen dramatically over the past few years throughout Colombia. Hotels are no exception. Their pricing is consistent with local competition but is slightly higher than comparable hotels in smaller cities. A thumbs up!

I would not stay there again. I booked the room for 2 people, and I would stay there for more than 2 weeks. I wasn’t allowed to bring someone, once, according to them, there are hotel rules, that are only informed over check in. For any guest I wanted to bring I would have to pay 40 dollars, really? I booked the room for two people, and I was there by myself. The internet sucks, I had to work from the hotel, but the signal in my room was horrible. Although I had a sign in my door saying: “do not bother” it looks like they wanted to bother me. They kept knocking the door and calling my room all the time. Last, the room I had booked was supposed to be bigger, but even after complaining about it, they have provided a so so room.

Our stay at GHL Hotel Portón in Medellin, Colombia, during April was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the warmth and professionalism of the staff at the front desk and in the restaurant stood out. The hotel is evidently well-managed, with a team that is not only friendly but also incredibly hard-working. The complimentary breakfast offered exceeded our expectations, featuring a delicious array of options. The restaurant's cuisine, in general, was executed with finesse, leaving us thoroughly impressed. Special commendation goes to the restaurant staff, from Flor, Sor, Sebastian, Lorena, Guillermo to Luis at the front desk, whose attentiveness and dedication added to the overall experience. We indulged in a couples massage during our stay, and both masseuses, Ximena and Diana from Nirvana Spa, delivered outstanding service, ensuring a truly relaxing and rejuvenating experience. Moreover, the excursions organized by the hotel were fantastic, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to our trip. What's more, the hotel's prime location next to the Santa Fe mall with its plethora of shops and restaurants made exploring the area convenient and enjoyable. Without hesitation, we highly recommend Hotel Portón to anyone seeking a memorable stay in Medellin.

Very good location. Property is a little old. The hotel is supposedly a 5 star, but it is more a 3 stars. Room are renovated but you can feel lack of quality. However, staff was excellent!!

I like the friendliness, the aimability, the service and the appreciation of and the interest for the guest. I didn't like traffic situation, too much congestion because of the multitude of vehicles using the roads nearby the hotel. The noise in the room was at night so loud that I couldn't get a good sleep.

The window in my room did not fully close. The blinds were off track a little. Front desk did not speak English. Location is good. Hard to get a taxi at hotel.

We stayed at GHL Porton Medellin and we had a great experience. We were happy staying at this hotel during a seven days trip to Medellin. The location was perfect in the Poblado area and across the Santa Fe mall. They offer a free breakfast which was very good with a lots of options for eating. The staff were all wonderful, friendly and very attent to our needs. Jorge, the gentlemen at the restaurant, was very pleasant and professional. Also, Flor was very polite and helpful with our selections at breakfast. Many thanks to both of them. The staff at the lobby was welcoming and friendly. They made us feel at home. Luis and Jorge, at the lobby, were very helpful with our tours and directions. They were always willing to help. The Hotel exceeded our expectations. The property is beautiful and well located. It was very clean, nice room, and the service was excellent. Thank you to you all for a wonderful stay! I will definitely stay here again.
