Unfortunately our Christmas celebration at this location was NOT what we hoped for. This property is in desperate need of repairs and maintenance had to come out just so we would not have additional safety issues. The listing picturea were not reflective of the property and when we contacted supported they initally wanted to send out housekeeping. An email from support later said they were aware repairs needed to be done but weather had delayed them. They should have removed listing or deeply discounted to reflect need for repairs. We would not have stayed there. We have tried to resolve this fairly and support has only offered a token amount. Its very unfortunate that our Christmas gift to each other was marred with so many issues including customer service.

Property a little dated! Hostess was super nice. The rental company not so much… we arrived one hour early and would have liked to have checked in. They said call back later to see if was ready! Location was great!

The cabin had everything we needed for our stay. The pool was probably the highlight of the trip. After walking around town all morning and playing mini golf. We would come back and relax in the pool in the afternoon. The area was nice and quiet. We've already told friends and family about the the cabin. Maybe we can get back soon. Until then at least we have the memories. Thank you.

We really enjoyed our stay and would stay here again. Only setback we had was the hot tub was not set at the appropriate temp so it was cold upon our arrival, and the lower deck furniture and ping pong table was covered in yellow pollen and had not been cleaned prior to our arrival. The interior was clean and tidy with everything we needed for our stay.

House is fantastic. Enjoyed the rustic vibes. It was nice to be out of town but within 20-30 minutes of everything Branson has to offer.

Absolutely beautiful place. We had reserved the property up the road. Someone contacted me a couple hours before our arrival to tell us the ac was broke. She automatically upgraded us to the big house down the street with no extra charge. We will definitely be staying here many times to come. Thank you.

Do not focus on the negative reviews! The cabin was super clean and a bit bigger than it looked in the photographs. Hot tub was very clean! The host was proactive in texting and reaching out to me prior to, during, and upon departure just as a friendly reminder if we needed anything. Location was great! Has a little bit of room to walk around the properties as well as a small playground and firepit. Conveniently located to the lake and a short drive to several attractions such as branson, caves, and hiking. The fireplaces were great. The downstairs was a perfect play/hangout area as well as the best place to watch TV (if you find yourself doing that at all on your trip). Will highly recommend to friends and family

The Refuge is just an awesome cabin and a great place for a getaway. It was only my husband and I staying there, but it could accommodate a whole family. And they would not have to leave to have a good time—pool table, foosball table, ping pong table, multiple TVs, and the hot tub! The cabin was immaculate and had plenty of towels. Loved it and would definitely stay there again!

Our family had a wonderful time at the Refuge. Everyone loved the downstairs and playing pool while watching sports on tv. It is a great place to just hang out, relax and spend some family time together.

The cabin was very nice, there were 6 of us total - 4 adults and 2 children, plenty to do for everyone! The kids loved the games, adults loved the pool table and hot tub. The photos do make the cabin look larger than it is so keep in mind for groups over 6. Floors are incredibly squeaky, I might not have noticed as much had we not been traveling with 2 small children, harder to move around after they were in bed. The beds were comfortable, no soaps of any kind in shower so bring your own. Lighting in house was difficult to find switches for and our bedroom light flashed off and on several times in the middle of the night. Kitchen had everything we needed and fireplaces both worked. All in all it was a nice getaway, 30 minutes or less to most of the main attractions.

Beautiful secluded location! But the house was dirty with cobwebs in corners, the screened porch full of bugs and dirt. The fridge’s water was broken so we had to use unfiltered water to cook, the smoke detector above the fridge was halfway unhooked and obviously not hooked up and working, and the hot tub wasn’t entirely clean. There were commercial style dispensers for shampoo, conditioner, soap in the shower but completely empty which is odd (they do mention in their handbook that they don’t provide soap or shampoo starter bottles). The property is listed as 6-8 people, so when we booked for 7 people, we saw we are being charged for an extra person. When I talked with staff about it, they said their fine print disclaimers state that any more than 6 guests and you’ll be paying extra which is shady, so just keep that in mind. Their rules are riddled with threats of charging you if things aren’t done a certain way which isn’t the best customer experience – we weren’t constantly on edge about whether we cleaned correctly, if we’re allowed to use this without charge, etc. I.e. we paid a $xxx cleaning fee but were told that if we don’t wipe down the kitchen until there’s no grease or food stains on any appliances, there would be a cleaning fee of $xx/hour above the $xxx we already paid with the booking. $xxx fee if you move the grill. Fee could be accrued if you change the temp on the hot tub, etc. Obviously it’s their property and they can charge what they decide, but I would have liked for someone to make me aware of this before we stayed. By the way, I’m x’ing out fee amounts since VRBO doesn’t allow this. The one encounter I had with staff about the extra person charge I mentioned above, was cold and dismissive. A “Call us because we’re done with this conversation and inquiry on email” sort of tone. For what we paid to stay, we probably wouldn’t choose to stay at The Refuge again.

Stayed with 2 other couples for four nights. Could have used more dishes and better selection of pots and pans. Enjoyed the pool table. A/C seemed to cut off after 5 minutes no matter what temp set on. This was 6th time staying at vrbo and this did not match the on-line photos. But still enjoyed our stay.

Cabin and location were great. Given that we were grossly upcharged for the week of Christmas, it was extremely disappointing to find a dead mouse in the kitchen and ants in the living room. For what we paid to stay here, I'd like to think an investment in pest services would have been utilized.

Nicely decorated and cozy cabin, but needed a thorough cleaning. We met family here for our Christmas and when the food came out, so did the German cockroaches. That ruined everything. Maintenance came by and sprayed but we kept seeing the roaches. Our vacation was ruined!
