Everything about this location was amazing. The owners staff and everything I was able to do and experience on this trip to Monte Placido the best vacation I have taken in over 10 years. Would def go back. And I highly recommend this location for anyone no matter your past travel experiences. The area was completely safe and secure. One of the most beautiful location I've been to in the Dominican Republic.

This place was incredible. Unbelievable views from the house and the pool. The gardens were so beautifully landscaped and the house was unique and very comfortable. My husband was a little nervous about no air conditioning but there were constant breezes and the fans above the beds kept us cool at night. It got a bit hot in the house in the morning but it wasn't a big deal because we went to the pool or the beach. The hosts were very helpful and it was really nice to have our first meal prepared for us by Jeannette. Definitely stay here if you want a unique and totally different experience than the hotel environment. I will say if you're renting a car the road up to the property is quite steep and it was slippery when it was wet so an economy car might have had an issue going up it when the roads are wet. My 3 year old son loved the geese and turkeys on the property, the yoga cave and the pool were perfect for exploring. We were there in the off season so we had the place to ourselves. If felt like a private retreat. Simple yet lovely accommodations. I would totally stay again and recommend it to the adventure seeking, non-resort minded traveler

The kitchen is well outfitted, the villa airy and spacious. The hosts Don and Diana were always attentive and ready to answer any questions or help out. Their two dogs Bingo and Jolie are sweet and always kept behind the fence. There are nice walks in the area, lots of interesting birds to sight, Las Terrenas is not far away by motoconcho. It is a lovely, safe, tasteful, interesting place to stay.

This place is amazing - we debated whether to stay in the town of Las Terranes or out here and I am SO glad we chose this place. Town is an easy drive and the ability to go into the bustling town, and then come back out to the peace and tranquility of this place was amazing. We LOVED our apartment - kitchen had all that we needed, the balcony was to die for and the bedroom view was spectacular. Highly recommended.

The vacation homes were truly a breathtaking paradise. Topped off by the infinity pool and yoga cave, we never wanted to leave! Other than some plumbing and bug issues it was a dream vacation with memories to last a lifetime. Thank you again Diana and Don, we will be back soon!

Je me devais de laisser un message après deux semaines passées à Monte Placido et je dois dire que ces vacances vont rester dans les annales. Pour commencer parlons du lieu : Monte placido a l'avantage d'être située dans les hauteurs (je ne vous parle pas de la vue panoramique du pays ...) et se situe entre toutes les plus belles plages du coin : Bonita, Cosos, Rincon et Moron. La région est magnifique et si je devais faire le point sur tout ce que j'ai vu je pourrais écrire un annuaire …. La résidence présente l'avantage d'être très proche de la ville en scooter (que les propriétaires peuvent louer aux locataires ainsi qu'un quad) ce qui permet de participer à la vie nocturne du pays, de faire des courses sans partir à l'autre bout du monde et surtout de ne pas se retrouver en plein milieu des quartiers de touristes. Les propriétaires sont vraiment sympathiques et Donald (le propriétaire) est totalement bilingue français anglais et espagnol ce qui aide vraiment beaucoup. Toujours de bon conseils, ils nous ont aiguillé ma copine et moi durant notre séjour : ces gens sont très sympathiques et on ne se sent vraiment pas traité comme un touriste. Pour ce qui est du confort, la villa est parfaitement équipée (service de maison impeccable) et est très sécurisée (même si je pense que la rep dom est contrairement aux idées reçus un pays calme et pas dangereux). Pour les gens casaniers, il y a même une piscine à débordement incroyable avec vue imprenable sur le pays …. une vraie carte postale (il y a même un barbecue à coté de la piscine). Bref, si vous voulez de vraies vacances, souffler, voir du pays et des gens sympathiques, je vous recommande vivement d'aller y faire un tour vous allez pouvoir déconnecter du quotidien !

The grounds are as beautiful as the pictures make it look and the entire staff there is friendly and very attentive to your needs. I have only good things to say about my stay. Have fun!

I feel bad it's taken me so long to write about this unbelievable location. By far, this was the best part of our trip. We are very active individuals on our vacations, but we HAD to at least spend a whole day lounging around the infinity pool drinking fresh coconuts... taking in the view from our balcony in the Falcona. I can see how people would come visit and spend all their time on this property. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. And the fact that we had access to a car for our time there was perfect! I will forever recommend it to others. Thank you for our wonderful stay, Don!

I guide bird tours. I came to see the area and find the place ideal for a relaxed vacation, above the bustle of the coastal town, but with access to all the restaurants, beaches and shopping possible. The host and hostess are very welcoming. This is a very good choice for persons desiring privacy yet access at the same time.

After the never-ending winter of 2014 - wI needed to get away to restore ourselves and didn't know where to go.We had never been to the DR, as whenever all we'd heard about it - all-inclusive resorts of Punta Cana/Puerto Plata. When we travel, we prefer to take in a bit more of the culture and not follow the masses and do our own thing. AND I'm happy to say, we found it at Monte Placido, located on an idealic hilltop on the Samana Peninsula in the DR. If you can fly into El Catey, do it! It's only 40 minutes- mostly beautiful scenic drive along the coast of the azure-colored Atlantic Ocean on a brand new hwy. Once you get to Monte Placido, (yes, it's a steep hill, but after going up once and tackling a couple of sharp turns - you'll get the hang of it) put it in the low-gear, take it steady and you'll be compensated by a breathtaking view. You are welcomed by 5 Spanish-style ochre-colored houses surrounded by a smartly landscaped garden with a kaleidoscope of tropical flowers with lush trees to give each unit their own sense of privacy - juxtaposed by an infinity pool. While you're obviously not on the beach - you are surrounded in the foreground by a 180 degree view of the Atlantic coastline with a constant warm ocean breeze.Each of the units are charmingly decorated - kept immaculately clean with all that you need (Flat screen Sat TV with a few English channels) WiFi if you need to be connected, fully equipped kitchens with all necessary dishware, pot&pans, etc.Some units are fenced, making them dog-friendly should you decide to bring Fido along! Owners Don and Diana, who live on-site in the center villa, are very conscientious of guest privacy. We barely saw them unless we rang their bell. The groundskeeper Jean-Claude, along with the rest of the crew are extremely polite and are mindful of any noise You can discover so much of the region as Monte Placido is located at the centre of the Samana Peninsula making most attraction nearby (we were at secluded world-class beaches in 15 minutes) and most others within 1 hour away at the most. The town of Los Terranas is nothing special, but are countless great dinning options. IN short - if you have a penchant for the standard all-inclusive experience then this is not the place for you. BUT, if you're in for something special with lots of local charm and a priceless setting , then, be sure to put Monte Placido on your Caribbean 'bucket list'. You will not regret it.We can't wait to go back!

My wife and I spent 3 days here and they were amazing. We wished we could have stayed longer. Diana and Don were incredibly helpful. The views were amazing and the pool was great. We would definitely stay here again.

Just as my choice for a title suggests, Monte Placido was incredible in every possible way. We have no complaints and will definitely make staying here a tradition. It was THAT good.

My friend and I had a wonderful time in Las Terrenas, largely because were lucky enough to land at Monte Placido! Don and Dianna were excellent hosts and had great recommendations of things to do and helped us book them! We felt right at home, starting with a delicious home cooked meal our first night! Dianna teaches a yoga class that is free to guests on Mondays, which was a wonderful way to start our week and to get to know others who live nearby. Our accomodations (which was a 2 bedroom villa, Jasmine, I think) was clean, bright, open, natural and comfortable. The view from the terrace was a beautiful treat to feast upon over breakfast each morning. I would highly recommend staying here! Especially if you like to be comfortably removed from the hub-ub of tourist traffic and noise, yet close to town and things to do (five mins to beach, 15 mins to Las Terrenas via ocean view drive). Thanks for making my first trip to the DR so memorable. I hope to return soon!!

Beautiful villa with spectacular views. The property was beautifully landscaped. Nice friendly people to work with. They had a security guard but I never once felt unsafe while traveling in the DR. I enjoyed being so high up and a little bit away yet was able to get to town and beaches within 10 minutes or so. Nice having the local fisherman bring up his catch of the day to purchase. We worked with Flora Tours and Terrys and both were good experiences. Would love to go back and stay for a month.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Monte Placido. Don and Diana (our hosts) were terrific in all aspects. They were very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Couldn’t really ask for more!! We wound up staying in La Rosa apartment, which is small, but fit the two of us quite nicely. The mountain top view is stunning and the privacy is really nice. A gorgeous and magical setting (complete with rainbows). Other guests were friendly too, as were the onsite staff. In fact, so was everyone we met in DR. Lots to do locally, but you’ll need some sort of vehicle to get around. For nature lovers, there are some pretty good birding opportunities. Quite a few endemic species are easily found right around the residence complex. I’ve sent a brief annotated list of the local birds to Don and Diana as a separate piece for anyone who’s interested. We enjoyed a great hike in the surrounding hills with a local guide, who was very knowledgeable about the area’s natural history, though you’ll need to practice your Spanish. The hike also traverses some significant slopes, so you’ll need to be in reasonable shape and wear proper footwear. Also, best to avoid the trek after a rainfall, as the paths will be slippery and muddy. Still, well worth it. Also great to have a selection of fresh fish that one of the local fishermen occasionally brought by the residence for purchase. Yum!!! A couple minor niggly complaints. The kingsize bed (actually two twins pulled together) in the La Rosa apartment wasn’t quite as comfortable as we’d like, but that wasn’t a huge deal. The fridge in that apartment didn’t work, but the freezer worked very well and kind of made up for that. Internet access was a bit limited, but sufficed for basic email. Last, it’s worth noting that driving in the local area (we rented the complex’s ATV, which served us well) takes some getting used to, as most local drivers are a little nutty. It actually all added to the fun! All in all, we give the total experience VERY high marks, and would definitely love to come back some time. - Jon and Pam
