Perfect for those who enjoy historic, Victorian properties! We had a great time and enjoyed our nightly gatherings in the parlor!

This house is a lovely Victorian House that has been restored. Everything you need for a comfortable stay is available in the house and the lovely backyard. The bedrooms especially are tastefully decorated and spacious. Each has a different theme and the beds are comfortable. The owners are very proud of this house having lovingly restored it and are always thinking and planning on more restorations.
Communication from the owners was impeccable and detailed making check in and use of the house easy. They also have clear notes in the house, so we would know how to use the appliances. I found the notes very helpful.
The location was great for us and near grocery stores and restaurants. It was easy to get to the places in La Crosse we wanted to visit.
Our stay exceeded our expectations. A return visit is in order!

We stayed in the home for eight days while we visited family and friends in La Crosse. Had a wonderful time all the little items in the house and the history were so interesting and fun to be around. We really enjoyed our stay will stay again.

A unique and charming historical home, full of character and interest. Host provides a wealth of information. We lived lightly (didn’t cook, use tv or music system), found beds were comfy, home is well stocked. Quiet area, lovely backyard. Special bonus was knowing our stay helped rescued horses at owners’ sanctuary. We’d definitely return!

Beautiful vintage home!! We weren't able to enjoy the outdoor space due to the weather but it looked very nice too. We had many great adventures during our stay in LaCrosse!

We had a very pleasant stay, the history of the house was interesting to learn about and fun to experience an authentic home from the 1880’s.

Loved the original furniture and decor. Signe was very available if I needed anything. We had a rehearsal dinner and everyone loved the home.

Signe was amazing and communicated wonderfully throughout our stay! Lots of hints and tips for things to do, places to eat, hike, shop, etc. The property has such amazing history and fun to see that posted throughout. It is quirky and a unique expierience. We had fun enjoying coffee in the different themed rooms.

My mom and I had an impromptu hiking trip, and this place delivered. Very comfortable and charming. Easy walk to restaurants and short drive to downtown. The owner was very responsive and helpful. I would definitely stay here again, if our journey leads us to La Crosse again.

We enjoyed our stay so much. Lots of good communication with our host. If I were to offer a helpful suggestion to the host I'd recommend she start using scent free cleaning and laundry products. Otherwise we all loved being there.

The property manager answered all questions and was clear on expectations. The property was as portrayed in discription with many nice antiques. The beds were very comfortable and it was nice to have 2 bathrooms for four woman. The location worked well for our group. Guests must understand that it is an older home and is reflected as Victorian, and does not have a modern bath. It was a good experience overall.

From the moment you walk through the door, you feel transported to another time. The architecture, decor and furnishings conjure thoughts of lives lived in a past era.
The hosts guide you through the home with placards in each room describing the people and items history.
The home is spacious and comfortable, the parlor is a bonus room in the middle of the home!
The home has all the modern comforts, games, movies and a karaoke machine! The kitchen is well equipped with glassware, plenty of dishware and utensils are located in a lovely dining room hutch.
The neighborhood is quiet and walkable, street parking is plentiful, bars and restaurants are close by.
This is a beautiful home, keep in mind it is nearly 150 years old, the inside has been lovingly restored, the exterior is in progress. You may enjoy watching the birds, as we did on the back porch, who share the residence in their clapboard hideaways!
If you are looking for a unique stay where you can make as many memories as the home shares with you, this is the place to stay in La Crosse!

It didn't feel welcoming, clean, nor comfortable. The communications are excessive. It smells. We didn't stay our second night.

This was a roomy, delightful historic home, complete with over the top decor of the late 1800’s. Everything was great with the stay experience. Just wandering around the house and looking at the restorations was a delight. I mostly stayed in with my small dog. The couches were comfortable, and pretty much every room comes with several things to entertain: movies, books, games, fun facts about the history of the house. The beds are comfortable. I locked myself out of the house at one point, and the property contact was a lifesaver, getting me back in before I even got very cold. It is an old house with historic textiles, which means the fabrics contain stuff from the past, no matter what is done to them. The managers do everything they can, though. Things were cleaned, air purifiers are everywhere, and there is potpourri and air freshener. Just maybe don’t stick your nose in the carpet. There were 14 long messages from the host, many have history; some have announcements; some have area attractions; and some have instructions. Sifting through what I needed to read to get into the property and what I needed to read to obey the rules was kind of a chore, even using my email search function. That being said, when I reached out with a question or concern, I got a prompt, thorough response. I will be staying here again.

Celebrated my 50th with my family.
Wish I could stay here every weekend.

A lot of room to enjoy. Charming and well equipped with most everything you need. The Victorian tub was a great place for a relaxing bath. I think my favorite room was, what I refer to as, the Micheal Myers Room. Music, movies, and games for those late night down times. I would recommend the experience to anyone looking for ambiance and something cozier than the standard hotel/motel room.

We looked into renting a home for family members to join together and celebrate Octoberfest in La Crosse, for 1/2 the group it was their first time. Hotels have to be booked so far in advance for this community event and are quite expensive. That was when I decided to look into VRBO and found this very historic property, with so much character, charm and history that we knew this was the one for us. Octoberfest did not disappoint and neither did this property. The property accommodates 10 guests, with some very comfortable mattresses on antique beds, along with blow up mattresses for the rest. The host is easy to communicate with and reach
whenever we needed. Thanks for a getaway to remember!

Smells like cat piss and has way to much junk in the house for a rental. Does not sleep 10, maybe 6. Host is a little crazy. I thought we were renting a house not a bed and no breakfast. Air purifiers every where, I wonder why. Stay in a hotel.

If you enjoy taking some time in an historic home with all the convenience of modern living, this is the place for you. Signe was very communicative about anything that might come up during a stay in a building constructed in 1888. Our week was one of serenity and nostalgia.

AC Carter is a beautiful period home with all today's comforts. The owner provided all of the needed rental information a couple of days ahead of our arrival. It is a great location for visiting LaCrosse. There were indoor and outdoor areas for conversation and relaxing. The house was clean and comfortable. AC Carter House is a great place for your home away from home.

THE VICTORIAN JEWEL
The A.C. Carter House is a historical house with an abundance of original antics and the comfort of TVs and WiFi. We truly enjoyed our stay. It was a learning experience on Victorian lifestyle.
Our landlord/landlady was most helpful and caring, I will recommend her house to all my friends.
In the close proximity to the house are cozy restaurants with delicious but inexpensive food. We loved to socialize with the friendly local people.
LaCross is a beautiful small town with a lots to offer for everyone, fishing, hunting, water sport, hiking, cross country skiing and snow mobiling.

Lovely old house
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this restored Victorian-era house. It is truly lovely inside - a mixture of Victorian charm and modern convenience. My nephew's housemate called the blue bedroom her "happy place" as it provided a zone of peace in a turbulent time. I loved the canopy bedroom where the sun shines in at sunrise. Great hosts, who respond promptly to questions.

The property had a delightful old timey decor, it is a historical building after all. My friends and I loved it. The dining table was perfect for board games and the outdoor area had a great set up for relaxing outside or grilling out. The property manager was really responsive and welcoming, too. The lounging areas were cozy. We will definitely be renting this place again, we might make it an annual tradition. We didn't get a chance to use the karaoke machine, we'll have to try it out next time.
