This home was very clean and very close to Acadia. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

When we walked we were just amazed at how beautiful and clean this home is. Everything that we needed was at our fingertips, and it is beyond me how anyone can have a whole house set up so perfectly. Beautifully decorated, comfortable and felt like home. The kitchen has plenty of room to cook, and the table is large enough for 6 adults and 2 young children to spend time eating and playing games. Bedrooms were comfortable and bathrooms had everything you might forget at home. I guess the only thing I’d say, and not being negative, is that with 6 adults and a 4 yr old, someone was always in the bathroom when it was needed by this 4 yr old. Good thing a potty was brought by parents. Close to Acadia, Bar Harbor and anywhere else you’d want to go. Perfect. Thanks for the perfect vacation home for our family!

My family of kids and grandkids had a wonderful week at Hobo Retreat near Bar Harbor. The house was immaculately clean with great appliances and decor. Thank you for the air conditioner. When we arrived it was in the mid 90’s…can you believe that for Mt Desert Island. Main floor was very comfortable and upstairs bedrooms warm but ok for sleeping. Thank you Bob for allowing us to stay and relax in your fine house Ken Cobb

We were pleasantly surprised to find that many of our needs were met in this house. There plenty of towels, all of the kitchen supplies, and even some laundry detergent for use. The owners were great with communication, and very kind. The property was great. Perfect for my 2 kids and my young niece. They had plenty of room to play! The only downside was the set up of the house, in regards to getting to the upstairs. In order to get to the upstairs hallway/rooms you had to either: 1. Go up the narrow stairs and walk through the bathroom and pirate room, or 2. Walk through the downstairs bedroom to get to another set of stairs. Being that we had 2 different families staying there, no matter which way we spun it, it was going to be tricky. But we made it work! We personally enjoyed that every room had laundry baskets, dressers, hangers (in all closets), and lots of space to put all of our things. We were able to unpack everything and put it where we needed it. We loved our stay and would definitely stay again! Thanks for the great space!

Cozy place, close to road and national park. We had a great time

This is a great rental! We had booked this trip in 2020 but had to cancel due to an immunocompromised child and the pandemic. We were able to get our money back and booked the same house this year. Check in process was simple and well communicated. The house is spacious, with 1 bedroom on the main floor, three additional sleeping areas upstairs, two true bedrooms and a Pirate themed walkthrough bedroom. We had plenty of space for 4 kids ages 2-12, two parents and two grandparents. There are two bathrooms as well, one up and one down. This house was built many decades ago and shows features of the building techniques of its time, however, it has been nicely modernized and updated throughout. It does sit next to a busier road but that really didn’t bother us at all, nor the kids, as we had AC units or fans for each bedroom to help drown out any noise. The home is well stocked, has a dishwasher, washer and dryer which was very convenient, modern appliances, WiFi and a big screen TV. It is several miles to Hull’s Cove visitor’s center for Acadia National Park and about a 10 minute drive to downtown Bar Harbor. We would not hesitate to book the same house on a return visit in the future.

Spotlessly clean. Close to Bar Harbor’s downtown area and Acadia. Right next to a busy road so a tad noisy at night, but we were all so tired from hiking that we slept through it. Communication from owner prior to trip was A+++.

The house was lovely, and every detail of decoration was perfectly comfortable and perfectly “Maine.” The kitchen was completely outfitted, and the porch and yard were great places to relax. Very comfortable beds and nice linens.

We loved staying in this beautiful home. It was well-stocked, clean as a whistle, and so close to downtown Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. We also were very happy with the strength of the WiFi, since the four of us were working our regular jobs during the day and had no issues. Check-in/out was simple and fast. Very comfortable home, the furnishings are lovely and the kitchen is extremely well equipped. The layout of the bedrooms is a little quirky but we made it work. The owner Bob was terrific to work with, he responded quickly to emails and provided excellent suggestions of things to do in the area.

Beautiful house. The only thing we didn’t like was that you have to go through a bedroom to get to a bathroom. That was awkward. Owner was very nice and helpful.

We had a wonderful trip to Maine. This home is lovely and fit our family of 5 nicely. It came with so many extras that truly saved on packing. Two things to pay attention to, I'm sure they are noted in the description of the home, one of the bedrooms does not have air conditioning and two the property sits close to Route 3 which was very busy during the time of our stay. If you are a light sleeper you may want to bring ear plugs. The owner was quick to address all our needs and the packet of things to do in the area was a great guide. I can not wait to go back to do more exploring. We would definitely rent this home again!!! Thank you Bob and Heather

The owner Bob was responsive and helpful throughout the process. The house, while smaller than it appears in the pictures, was charming, clean, well-kept, well-decorated, and easy to feel like home. Upon arrival, the closeness to the street was a potential concern for traffic-noise, but throughout our stay it was not an issue. The listing states there are 2 bikes in the garage for use, but these bikes are in need of a tune-up, so we decided not to use them. If using all bedrooms, one bedroom must be used as a railroad-style, as you must pass through it to get to one of the bathrooms. Aside from those minor things, this house is wonderful and provided a great home-base for my family to relax and enjoy our vacation in Bar Harbor. The kitchen and main bathroom are superb, large and well-stocked. It is close to some of our favorite places like Hadley Point and is a good location to explore Acadia National Park. Would definitely recommend this home to anyone, especially families.

Loved our stay! Beautiful, well appointed home in Bar Harbor. The accommodations were excellent. The home was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The kitchen lends itself well to cooking and socializing with friends/family. The deck is lovely place to enjoy a cup of coffee or stretch on your yoga mat. Lots of literature and maps on local attractions and points of interest. Hosts were quick to respond, gracious, and accommodating. Would definitely recommend!

The HOBO retreat was truly the highlight of our stay at Acadia. The property is beautiful, with a spacious living area where our party of 7 could easily hang out. The home owners have stocked the place with every need a traveler may have. Reach out to the owners to verify as this may significantly decrease the luggage you need to bring in. For me specifically it was the high-chair which allowed me to feed my toddler in a pattern familiar to her! Thank you Bob! The home has a lovely porch with brightly colored easy chairs that added to the charm of the place. We were all so sad when we had to leave. Will definitely book again :)

We had a wonderful time at the HOBO Retreat. The house is clean, well stocked and thoughtfully decorated. Its central location made it easy to get to Bar Harbor and to the Park. Two families of 3 had plenty of room. Two 9 year old boys shared the pirate room upstairs and just LOVED it. My husband and I stayed in the upstairs bedroom and the other couple were in the downstairs bedroom. We could not have been more pleased.

We are so glad we found the Hobo Retreat. The location was close to downtown Bar Harbor and Acadia, while also allowing a "retreat" away from all the main traffic. The home was spacious, clean, and very well maintained. For an old farmhouse, I was pleasantly surprised by how modern and clean the house was. I only saw one teeny tiny spider the whole week. The house had everything we needed. We did not use the kitchen other than the coffee pot, and a single use of the oven and the microwave, because the restaurants in Bar Harbor are fantastic. However, everything was there if we wanted to make our meals. Bob the owner was incredible. The instructions were clear and helpful, he checked in via email and text to make sure we had everything we needed, and when he discovered we had a mishap on the road that delayed our trip by 8 hours, he offered an extra day at no charge. I wish we could have taken him up on the offer, but our schedules would not permit it. Our boys loved the pirate room. The house was also stocked with books and games. It is hard to have a stay home day when it is summer in Acadia, but if we had one, ther would have been plenty to do. I would gladly stay here again.

Hobo retreat was extremely well kept and well stocked. It had everything we needed for our Bar Harbor Vacation and more. The home was well located minutes from downtown Bar Harbor and wonderful hiking spots at Acadia National Park. The house had a great porch to sit and relax and view the stars at night. The host was very friendly and responsive to our questions. Our group consisted of 2 couples. The house provided 4 bedrooms and 2 baths so it would accommodate a family very comfortably as well.

This was a perfect location for our Acadia vacation. Bob was super responsive with any questions or needs during the pre-trip time. The house is decorated beautifully. It takes about 10 minutes to get into Acadia National Park and a 15 minute drive to Bar Harbor (ours was a little slow due to ongoing construction). The only thing for guests to be aware of is the proximity to the main road on Mt. Desert Island. This house is close to the road and the noise from the traffic, especially during the day, can be a little loud. Other than that, I would stay here again in a heartbeat! Every room was themed and the decorations were perfect. The kitchen was excellently stocked for breakfast every day and dinner 3 times during our stay. If you've never been to Mt. Desert Island or Acadia National Park, don't wait to book your stay, get there now!

We loved our stay at Hobo Retreat. All the required information for the stay was provided by Bob before arrival. The house was neat and clean and had all the required supplies provided. The rooms are spacious and well maintained. The decorations and themes of each and every room were fabulous. Only issue we felt was with the water pressure in the bathroom on the first floor being low. Apart from that, home is very close and accessible to Bar Harbor as well as Acadia National Park. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay. The house was clean and spacious and had everything we needed including a pack ‘n’ play and high chair. We loved the themed rooms; we were two families with small children so the pirate room was a huge hit. As others have noted it’s on a busy main road; at times the noisy traffic disrupted our sleep, but otherwise, it wasn’t an issue. For us, the layout of the house was a challenge. To access the upstairs rooms (where most of the bedrooms are) you either need to walk through the queen bedroom or a bathroom and the children’s pirate-themed room. We wouldn’t have rented the house if we’d known this in advance. The house is great but I think it’s only convenient if used as a 3-bedroom house. Unfortunately, our experience was tainted by our dealings with the host, Bob. In a huge lapse of judgment, we allowed our toddlers to handle a couple of the model boats (the ones sold in all of the tourist shops) in the house which resulted in minor damage. We feel terrible about this. We contacted Bob to let him know what happened, apologized and offered to pay the full replacement costs plus a convenience fee. Obviously, this is the least we could do. Bob responded aggressively with insults (including a slur against women) and false claims, some of which were preposterous and threatened us with a bad review unless we paid extra money that went beyond payment for the boats. We are at fault for damaging two of the model boats and are very willing to pay his costs but this is no justification for his attempt to force us to pay additional money to avoid a bad review. This is unethical and surely against VRBO policy. We complied with the house rules (we were exhausted 2 sets of parents, between us we had 2 toddlers, a young baby, and another baby on the way very soon so it was a very tame vacation), we followed the checkout instructions (eg., emptied the trash, stripped the beds, loaded the washing machine etc), cleaned up after ourselves and restocked items that we used. Yes, we damaged 2 model boats but we offered to pay the full costs. I really don’t know what else we can do to make amends. I’m certainly not going to be bullied into paying a “good review” fee.
