My Mum came over from Canada to visit us. It was the perfect place to stay and so close to the beach! Lots of space! We made great memories!

House is amazing and located a very short walk down to the beach. Just needed a good clean and some more cutlery.

The house has not been deep cleaned in a very long time. We killed a minimum of 15 spiders during our 3 nights there…one of which was LARGE and in the bed during the middle of the night. We had a water emergency and it took us 4 calls and over 30 minutes combined of our morning to even get someone to answer the phone (even their emergency line). Luckily the water issue was the shower would not turn off, but the water was contained to the bathtub. Otherwise the entire upstairs would have flooded before anyone answered the phone. As a result we only had the very tiny shower to use (master bath was out of commission) for 2/3 of our stay. The agency felt $60 NZ was an amount that we should have been grateful for. I was not overjoyed with this based on the level of the issue, but also did not want to waste any more holiday time dealing with them. Summary: house is in a great spot but until it is under different management with better cleaning I would not stay here again.

Reviewer Comments: Chester Cottage could be a lovely place if some upkeep and maintenance was done. There is no shelf or storage space in the second bathroom. The steps down to the beach need to be repaired and the shubbery needs to be cut back. Take down all the cobwebs would make it much cleaner. Maintaining and trimming all the bushes and shrubs would allow better views of the ocean and all around. The bedrooms were adequate. The kitchen had too many unorganized drawers and cupboards -- a thorough cleanout and purging of duplicates and old items would be a good idea. When Bach Break management was contacted requesting a replacement for a broken item, there was no response at all.

Our young children loved the river running into the see for swimming which was close by. Lovely sheltered quiet deck with dining area and upstairs bedroom and on suite were private if hosting other friends or family.

Stunning location, hearing the sound of the waves is amazing. Property needs a bit of updating, the decor is a bit tired and little things like no decent can opener, cutlery was like a picnic set as opposed to real cutlery, old duvet cover with an old stain on it. It is a warm and cosy place for a winter get away.

The lagoon had lots of swimming holes for kids to jump in. Surfers could be seen right from the deck. Kitchen was very well stocked. Beds were comfortable. Great deck with a sheltered area for windy days and good sized bedrooms.

The one downside was that the kitchen and living areas were not very clean and the kitchen facilities lacking in some basic items for cooking. The downstairs bathroom, which services two bedrooms plus any visitors, is really, really, tiny. Overall a great place to stay but I would say its a bit over priced and doesn't quite fit the "luxury" tag it is given. What's not to love about Oakura though?!

Chester cottage is waterfront beach which is extremely unique. A weather bomb hit nz so we stayed inside listened to the waves crashing and watching movies with a lovely fire going. Top notch comfortable bed and couch in remarkable beach setting. I wasnt well to do anything but two nights there was peaceful. A unique stay in a beautiful spot of nz.

Amazing location. Perfect on sunny and story days, with the river and ocean close by is great with the kids.

A few things missing. No dishwasher or dryer. Cooking utensils need updating. Otherwise nice place to stay

Lovely location, comfy beds, only complaint was family bathroom is very tiny and has nowhere to put anything, this was not great for three ladies to share. Upstairs master suite is better but door lacks a handle! This should be easily fixed by property management. Overall a pleasant stay.

The holiday house is lovely and in a great location. Everything was clean and tidy for our arrival. We had a lovely stay and no issues. The only thing we could be picky on is the condition of some of the interior fittings and equipment. The cutlery could do with a refresh. Some of the kitchen cabinets could also do with a spruce up and one of the handles was broken with tape round it. Lie a lot of holiday houses, there was nowhere to hang coats and nowhere to store shoes. No hooks! Why do holiday homes never have hooks! If you are considering Oakura for a break, overall we would highly recommend it. For the owners - a few improvements as per above would take it to 5 stars!

Great to be able to walk straight down to the beach. All aspects great

No cell phone reception in the house, but they lent us a cell booster which was very much appreciated. Upstairs bed was divine - nicest I've ever been in. Windows everywhere to let in the sun. Woodburner fire was great, all stacked ready to light. Will definitely be back, and would highly recommend
